Super 8 Suffolk Tidewater

2.0 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

Suffolk appears to be a small but growing town. Most commercial real estate around the Super 8 is new. However, this property appears to be untouched or improved since the 70s. It is set down off the road next to water. It appears as though it is condemned because there are no cars, windows are open and drapes blowing in the breeze. We found out why. The place smells like a smoky bowling alley. The Super 8 sign is so old, it's barely yellow and not in good repair. The side entrance from the parking lot swings in the breeze allowing any transient to walk in. The card reader has been ripped from the door and the door won't even fasten shut. It just stays wide open. The owners have made a minor attempt to improve the interior by painting the rooms and redoing at least our bathroom. If you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig! The hallway carpet was red and navy blue and is probably the original. It was black with filth and matted down. The hallways stunk of age and dirt. The highlight of our room was the air conditioning/heating unit. The switch did not work. It was inoperable and loose and just spun in circles like the spinner in a Twister game. The unit was dirty and grate broken in pieces. You had to plug it in to get it to come on and it neither heated nor cooled. My husband got up in the middle of the night because our room was hot and he nearly burned his hand unplugging the unit. The cord was also very hot. Imagine what would've happened if we got up at 8 instead of 3?

Hotel smelled bad and was in general disrepair. Broken door knobs, leaky AC unit, broken ice machine...the list goes on.

don't stay here the place is filled with bed bugs I was bit over 10 times I would definitely wouldn't recommend to anybody including homeless people

If you need something cheap but clean this this what you need

The room turned out better than what I had expected. I was looking for economy, and got that, but the room had been recently renovated. Clean room and bathroom, no soap or shampoo, but I always carry my own anyway. Just so-so cable & TV quality. Had a good apartment type refrigerator / freezer and air conditioner. Towels were small which, for a large frame guy like me, it took both towels for one shower. Outside door kept slamming at about 2:30 - 3:00 AM which annoyingly rattled that end of the building, but I went back to sleep OK. Less than average breakfast. Difficult to get out on the highway at peak traffic hours. All-in-all, it was a decent room for the money.

Room felt humid and wet. The staff was very nice and welcoming. The hotel is right next to a McDonald's and down the street from more choices.

You have to be really looking or you will past it i Clean room

The hotel did not have hot water and did not have housekeeping personnel the staff was ok

It was as read. It was as expected as the reviews.

BREAKFAST BUFFET WAS ALL SUGAR WITH Diabetes NOT A SINGLE THING TO EAT.

first appearance of the place...was NOT good...No Super 8 sign....dingy and run-down looking....and then recalled...there was no picture on the Orbitz site....now I understand why. mold in A/C unit in room and on microwave.......innkeeper put us on the top floor and the farthest room away from the front door....and there were only 2-3 cars in the parking lot.

I found the staff very eager to assist us. I asked them for directions to the Great Dismal Swamp and they didn't know where it was. They made a phone call and then gave me the phone to get directions. They also asked me to bring back brochures from the swamp in case other visitors asked in the future. Also included was a light breakfast every morning, ceral, bagels etc. Rooms were very clean. I would stay there again!
