Clarion Hotel Beachfront

Jacuzzi and fridge didn't work. The carpet is old and smelly. Everything is outdated and can use a remodel. Our room was ground level, but you couldn't walk out from the patio onto the beach without climbing over a half wall (which is probably there for guests protection). We had a few kids on the higher levels throwing food to the seagulls so it was difficult to sit on the patio with all the noise the birds made. Early every morning there was a loud banging noise that may have been the plumbing. However, the view of the lake in any weather was beautiful. The television was updated and worked great on those cooler, gloomy Michigan days. The complimentary breakfast reminded us of camp in grade school but the waffles were good. The bathroom had a working fan and was clean. Room service did a great job of cleaning the room each day. The king size bed was comfortable sleeping, not like cardboard. I just wish we would've checked the working condition of the jacuzzi and fridge since I paid extra for those amenities. Overall an ok stay.

The property was okay. For the area the price was okay. It was the first time we stayed in the area so we cannot compare to other properties. On check in the lobby seemed to smell like cigarettes. We had a suite with a TV in each room. One had no signal the other, even though the remotes indicated cable access had worse performance than satellite; it was raining at the time. The breakfast was a typical hotel one... and was disappointing. On checkout we were not asked about our stay. (Based on dress the person checking us out appeared to be a manager.)

We stayed one night. The room was decent. Nothing wrong with it, we've just stayed in nicer hotels in the area. It was slightly outdated. The woman that checked us in was VERY nice. The kids liked the video games in the laundry area. We had a lakefront room (too late in the season to swim). The beach looked very nice and I really enjoyed watching the sunrise over the lake. I would stay here again if I had a lakefront room.

Check in was slow but efficient. The staff does not speak very clear English so a few of the things she spoke to me about I had to ask her to repeat. We can deal with outdated furnishings at a hotel as long as the rooms are clean. Neither of these held true. The room was absolutely filthy, to the point where I checked for bed bugs and required my family to keep shoes on when walking around. The closet door, walls around sink, curtains and shower curtain were horribly stained. The towel bar in the bathroom was falling off the wall. There were stains on the bed and the mattresses should have been replaced years ago. There was a layer of dust over EVERYTHING! The patio door did not lock and the balcony was filthy. There were 4 people staying in my room and the maid only left us 2 towels. When we left our room in the morning to go to Mackinaw Island, I noticed a dirty hand towel sitting in the stairwell. When we returned to the hotel at 5PM, it was STILL in the stairwell. There was garbage bags, vacuums and countless bins of dirty towels just sitting around in the walkways for the guests to go around. Some were sitting directly in front of the guest rooms. There is a beach that is fairly clean. There are pits to build bonfires at night which is nice. However, it seems to be a drinking ground for adults. If you have young kids I would steer clear of the beach at night. I should have listened to the other reviews and booked elsewhere. Don't waste your money!!!

Booked this on a weekend whim with friend. A bit of a walk to town and restaurants. Nice beach area. Good value for one night stay to Mackinaw.

The staff was very accommodating for our needs for a room on the main floor because one of our party could not climb stairs. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. We even visited the hot tub and pool.

Really good hotel, nice location, rooms with beach facing have amazing view for sunrise.

When we walked in the manager was arguing with someone in the phone at the counter. It was unprofessional and made everyone uncomfortable as it wasn't very welcoming. Hotel is very loud. Kids running up and down the hallway at night and in the morning. Would upgrade to a better place next time, this one isn't worth the money.

Staff and hotel was excellent!!! The breakfast was good and the hotel was clean. My only complaint was the pillows. Normally I don't have any issues, but they are filled with egg carton like foam, and are very uncomfortable. I would stay here again.

Room was very clean. The bed was a comfy surprise. That doesn't happen often in hotels. We had a lakeview room and agree it's worth the extra to have the beautiful sunrise. Breakfast wasn't spectacular, but filled the empty spot until we got to the island. We would absolutely stay here again.

The hotel was a great location. It was clean and the best part was we had 3 beds in one room with 2 tvs. Wish it had an extra sink outside the bathroom area but overall loved it. The free breakfast was not good at all. Long line, was set up horribly and no eggs left at 8:30 in the morning. But it was free

The location was right on the water and the room was very clean. The decor really needs to be updated and if they could add some kind of soundproofing it would be helpful. Overall, it was Ok.

This was a very good hotel it was on the edge of the main strip, but everything was still within walking distance. The hotels location on the water was awesome as we were able to get up early and watch a sunrise over the water, very beautiful. There were chairs on the beach. We booked at the last minute but if I was up there again I would definately book early and get a room on the waterfront. Overall and excellent experience.

A nice motel in a good location within walking distance of restaurants and the ferries to the island.

Staying on the beachfront near Mackinac Island can get expensive. This was a nice value for a larger room. The staff was courteous and helpful. The room was ready early, and the clerk was quick with suggestions on places to eat, drink and a quick rundown of all I needed to know about the hotel, from free breakfast location, to ice machines. If you're taking Arnold Ferry, the dock is just a short walk away. Star Line was a littler further, but still walkable. My only complaint was that the room was a little outdated. The carpet was a little worn, and the bathroom area around the toilet wasn't totally clean. That said, the room was bigger than we expected and the price was very reasonable for the location.

The Clarion was a great place to stay in a super location. Clean rooms, good breakfast, close to the water. I will stay there the next time.

The hotel room was not very clean at all, towels looked dirty. The weekend we stayed was a period when some type of fly was hatching, leaving thousands around the lights outside the door to the rooms. The flies I understand but the cleanliness of the room and bathroom was just bad. I would not stay here again and question staying at any kind of Clarion.

The hotel staff were polite. We were given a room under the stairwell leading to the breakfast room so there was early morning traffic over our heads. We had the feeling we were given this location because we had a prepaid (discount) reservation. Overall, the stay was adequate for the money we paid.

Hotel was a good place to stay in Mackinaw. Close to island ferry and nice sandy beach. Some spiders and insects on balcony but it was directly facing the lake - probably unavoidable. Overall good family place to stay with good hot breakfast.
