Sugar Bay Resort and Spa

This was the second time we stayed at Sugar Bay. This time we noticed that there were some changes being made, paint etc. This resort needs some TLC but other wise pretty good place to stay. The ONLY reason we choose this location again was Chef Peter. My wife has a sever case of Celiac disease "Gluten intolerance". Chef Peter was on point just as he was the first time. We were served by him personally each night except the last due to him going out of town. He stated that had I called him in advance he would have made his arrangements to leave after we were gone...WOW that's dedication. However he made sure that the assistant chef "Nelson" knew exactly what to do, and he did a great job as well. So in all the resort is nice nothing to glamour about but the Chef and the rest of the staff was absolutely great.

Very nice place to stay at. Right at a beautiful beach. Plenty of stuff to do at resort. Staff was kinda rude at times. Definitely recommend the all inclusive package...food is expensive everywhere you go there but good food. Had a blast and would stay again.

Food was same in all the very few dining options the hotel offered. Website listed restaurants when we arrived they weren't ready to be open yet. Pictures of seafood offered none. So for all inclusive we ended up go numerous restaurants in town to eat daily.

This Hotel has the potential to be great but they constantly miss the little things. I selected the oceanview all inclusive and in my 1st room, the air conditioning was not working and the room phone was not working. I had to make all request at the front desk every day of my stay, none of the phones worked in any of the rooms I was in. After I let them know about the a/c, they moved me to another room. The room was nice, but the balcony was filled with insects. Again the phone does not work so u have to walk down to the front desk and let them know. They said they would call to get it sprayed. Unfortunately, I had to get it sprayed every morning and missed out on the opportunity to sit outside on the balcony every morning and enjoy the view. That was unfortunate as the only reason I paid for the ocean view room was to sit outside and watch the sunrise. I let them know weeks before I stayed there that I would be celebrating my birthday. I mentioned it again on the day I was there and asked if they did anything for guest celebrating a bday. I was told that they would put a birthday sign on my door on my bday and send me a bottle of champagne - that never happened. I mentioned my bday when setting up my dinner reservations at Shima, they said it was noted - nothing happened. The food is okay. Shima was very good. There are some excellent staff, and almost all of them work at the resturant and drive the shuttle. The (morning) front desk staff is not welcoming.

Wonderful stay in a lovely room. I am handicapped and they went all out to help me with my needs, I would stay there again if I go to St Thomas!

Excellent hotel, had an outstanding local carnival and buffet. The buffet was included in the all inclusive package. Good food, modern well decorated restaurant. Spotless room

Excellent stay. Our room flooded, it was my birthday....so the wonderful manager moved us into their best room, and there was a handwritten birthday note, cheese platter and bottle of champagne (which we forgot to bring home...). A great resort, great entertainment and food. A must stay, and do not miss experience....and I am uber picky.

Hotel was nice overall a 4 out of 5 if they just do better with the Selection of food by the pool side and have food ready to go and a little bit more Entertainment by the pool I would give a 5 :) also spray for the chick bugs there bad if you leave the balcony open and they bite overall a soild 3.8 to 4 on visit

Very nice resort we would definitely stay there again thank you to the front desk staff, bell captains, chef, wait staff

We booked this hotel in St. Thomas because our flight was canceled to Antigua due to weather. I made reservations the night before and was not expecting this to become one of my favorite vacations. The room was spotless. There was always things to do on the premises, but the hotel will get you a cab in five minutes if you want to explore the island. There is a great boutique and jewelry store in the lobby. It is a quiet spot about 1/2 hour from the airport with warm, friendly people that made me feel at home!

Hotel is beautiful. Pool area is amazing and i wouldnt change a thing about it. The resort has the perfect set up! 3 pools with a grotto, jacuzzi, tons of stuff for kids,a game room, mini golf, bumper boats, an entire kids building, a spa, a grill by pool and restaurant/bar, private beach with water sports, i could go on for a while.... only complaint i have is that its apparent they are cutting costs... especially with staffing. The pool bar or grill wasnt opened till 10: 30 everyday... i couldnt even get a water! If im buying all inclusive i wanna have a bloody mary in the morning! Well thats regardless.. but that was not possible. Also the bartender just randomly goes on break and leaves a bunch of thirsty individuals staring into the abyss... Last there was no nightly activity and many things were closed! They opened sporadically. Kids game room was opened once in 5 days... there was only a beach party Thursday and a dj Fri and Sat and then done for the week. The Italian restaurant doesnt open every night.... I get it because the hotel wasnt fully booked up and i heard they had some troubles last year but thats not fair :(.The food was just okay. Some staff members had an miserable demeanor especially non bar or wait staff. I wish the hotel was busier when I was there because then maybe they would have had a reason to have more consistent activities. Overall its a beautiful hotel.

Nice, friendly resort with great bar pool and beach. The buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner was subpar. The sit down options were nice

Great quick getaway from the cold...staff were all very good to us-expensive to eat/drink w/o all inclusive, so bring in food or go exploring! Thanks for a great stay!

This was our second time staying at Sugar Bay, we enjoy the location but have seen a decline in the customer service. The facilities on the grounds were always closed so we weren't able to go to the bar down by the pool because they would close early and there isn't entertainment at all. We didn't have television one day and you don't get Wi-Fi in your room only in the lobby area. The food is not very good and the staff isn't overly welcoming. This was our last time staying here.

We visited in mid January ,a slower time for the resort. The staff was good and made us feel comfortable throughout. Our room, a King w/Ocean View was excellent. This is a large hotel and complex so it seemed "empty " even though we met a lot of other visitors. The hotel is high on the hill offering spectacular views. The beach and pool area is located at the base of the hill . Two pools were being repaired ,but a third pool with water bar was open. Beach area is smallish and rocky upon entry.Alot of beach and pool activities are available along with tennis courts ,volley ball ,etc. Location is on the eastside of the island and a five minute cab ride to the town of Red Hook where their is the Ferry to St John (30 mins) and bars and restaurants.

This was our second visit to Sugar Bay for my husband and I. The grounds of the resort are amazing! We opted for the partial ocean view room as we like to have a view of the ocean and the pool area. The rooms have been renovated since our last visit which was very nice. The added Japanese restaurant with hibachi was also a new feature since our last visit which is where we ate most of our dinners. We love Sugar Bay because there is plenty to do if you want to spend the day on resort (beach, snorkeling, pool, daily activities), but the price of the all-inclusive allows for you to spend the day off-resort and not feel like you are losing money. The all inclusive bracelets must be worn during your stay, but they have now integrated room access into the bracelet which was super convenient. We rented a jeep for half of our stay and the parking at the resort was safe, easy and convenient. We were at the resort over New Years. The resort did a nice job hosting a New Years Party with a live band and champagne toast at midnight. We love Sugar Bay and can't wait to come back!

We stayed at the Sugar Bay over the winter holidays to celebrate a couple of family birthdays. This was our first trip to St. Thomas and we had 7 of us in total with three rooms. The location was beautiful, the amenities really good (we were in updated rooms and heard some of the rooms hadn't been updated) and the views spectacular. Aside from the elevator having some issues and some of the stairwells appearing cluttered with construction debris, the place was wonderful and really convenient to all of our activities. The staff were friendly and really responsive. If you can go off-site to Red Hook for meals like we did (we rented a car) you will do better budget and food-wise but folks seemed to be ok with the all-inclusive as well.

Nice view... has own beach/bay... quiet... maybe too quiet for younger generation but cozy. A lot of iguanas walking around.

Our rooms overlooked the ocean, the pools had a swim up bar and waterfall, it was lovely. The room was comfortable and clean. The only downside was no wi-fi in the rooms, lobby only.

The hotel was nice but being worked on. It smelled strongly of paint. Wifi didn't work in our room until the last day. There were no vending machines for ice so we had to go to the bar to get ice. The beds were nice, but small. Two doubles instead of queens. Everything at the pool shuts down at 5 or 6 which I found to be odd. I found the hotel staff to be incredibly polite. I have never dealt with people who are so nice all the time! They were really quite amazing. The location of the hotel is nice in that is sits right between Linquest beach (which was incredible) and Coki beach (Coki is like a bar on the beach for those interested in that). It is also close to Redhook where one can get meals or go to Moe's Fresh Market for food. The ferry to go to St John's is also conveniently located close to the hotel. The hotel was not busy, and was very quiet. I thought it was good for us as we brought our family. I don't see those without families looking for night life activities enjoying a stay here.
