Incredible property. We had a beachfront room and it's totally worth it. Service was impeccable. Food was great. Zozos is amazing! Will definitely return!!!

Exceptional setting, incredibly friendly people but accommodations leave a lot to be desired.

You feel like you have the whole resort to yourself.

Caneel Bay was a great experience all around. Their numerous beaches were all gorgeous and provided great amenities including chairs, snorkel gear, floats, paddle boards, sail boats etc.. Food was always great tasting and everything was clean. Highly recommend someone stay there.

Really enjoyed the beaches on the resort and how quiet it was. We got snorkeling gear to use for our whole trip free along with kayaks, paddle boats, and flotation devices. The staff was super friendly and helpful.

Resort is stunning. Staff could not do enough for you. The beaches are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Yes, rooms are basic, but the linens are high quality. Who is in your room anyway at a resort with such outstanding outdoor beauty. AC worked terrific too. We purchased the breakfast package which I highly recommend. Lemon pancakes were delicious. So sad we had to leave. Will be back soon for sure. It's worth saving up for.

Great snorkeling, beautiful grounds. Great for getting away for a few days.

The size of the room was small and it only had a shower, no bath tub, however the bathroom was large and designed in a rustic fashion with stones. We stayed in the least expensive room type however ($500/night). There are private villas and beach front units that are much larger and of course at a greater price point. The bathroom door should be a solid door for privacy, currently it is a simply thin wooden door with slats from top to bottom (like that of a window shutter). The King Size bed was too soft and the mattress was worn on the sides. For a 5 star resort they need to replace the mattresses to be clean and firm. Upon arrival, a gift of a full bottle of rum was unexpected and a generous gesture. The nightly bed service was a very nice touch with a different poem each night with a gift of an exotic seashell next to it on each side of the bed. The property is beautiful and expansive with 7 beaches. That is what sold us on the place. Nightly walks around the property after dinner was lovely. We do wish there were benches along the walk ways to rest and relax and to observe the ocean as the property is set on a very large old sugar plantation estate. There were many spots on the edges of the water where a nice place to relax on a bench would have been ideal. The restaurants (Zozo's) and the Sushi restaurant were outstanding. Best part of the vacation. The daily breakfast however could have used an uplift. The 5 days we were there the breakfast buffet was the exact same thing. The offerings did not change, which was a disappointment.

Great place to relax and enjoy each other. Amazing beaches great service!

The hotel was clean and away from the city. Beautiful grounds, friendly staff and we saw more sea turtles than expected! The water was clear and warm. Hotel room and maid service were wonderful!

Just a gorgeous resort, with friendly staff and goo amenities on site. It's pricey, but was well worth s splurge.

My wife and I recently stayed at Caneel Bay for the first time after an extensive search. Our experience was summed up when she asked me after our first full day "Can we just live here forever?" There are really very few areas to improve upon- the hotel has gone a long way to think of such little things as bugspray, a personal cooler, polished souvenier shells with turndown service, and a complimentary bottle of rum waiting in the room. The bed and room were consistently clean and super comfortable- the maids made sure of that in both the morning and evening, and ice was delivered daily. The towels were HUGE and soft. The beaches were SPECTACULAR and the water was crystal clear, with great walk-out snorkeling (we swam with all kinds of fish, tiny squid, and sea turtles!) And the staff let us keep our borrowed snorkel gear for the duration of our stay instead of having to turn it in each day. Things to note- there will be animal feces in certain locations due to the resident wild deer and donkey populations, but this is only a minor annoyance and not much to be done as the staff gets to it daily. Mongoose, butterflies, iguanas and lizards were also present along with some mosquitoes. If you're like me and attract every mosquito around, bring deet. Things to improve- the gelato could have been better, food quality depended on dish (some was phenomenal, some not), and the in-room coffee was horrible, but these are very nitpicky things. Overall, we're looking forward to going back soon.

Caneel bay is one of the most spectacular place in the carrabean. Very family oriented beaches are gorgeous. I had a ocean front room u really don't needed to go to any other beach it was spectacular I loved it the rooms are clean great staff.

This is a beautiful resort with several beaches, hiking trails and snorkeling.

Heaven is place on Earth. Please do this at least once in your life.

We spent a week at Caneel Bay with our 3 adult children. Overall it was a fantastic experience. We were looking for a mix of relaxation and activities. The resort setting is awesome with a lot of open space and private beaches. The wildlife on site was a nice added touch. We elected to not rent a car and relied on taxi for several trips into town. Cabs charge a flat rate of $5 per person each way. Our package included breakfast--which was great. Other dining at Caneel is fairly expensive; we ate breakfast late then took advantage of the free afternoon tea for a light snack. We ate at Caneel several nights and went into town on others; price wise it was about the same when the cab fare was added in but added a nice variety. Another highlight was the tennis center and the complimentary equipment rental on the beach. Don't think you need to be a "good" player to enjoy the tennis; the pros who run the shop are very friendly and will ensure people of every ability enjoy themselves, even if you just want to hit balls. We also did the US Park Service's guided Reef Bay hike; that was a good trip but fills up very quickly so sign up before you arrive. The rooms are not ultra-modern but are well maintained, clean, and comfortable. The setting and amenities more than compensate for the slightly dated décor. We wanted a clean comfortable bed and shower and got that. The free bottle of rum and daily ice service was a nice touch.

Peaceful and relaxing. More of an experience then a resort. Everything was more then we expected!

The grounds, the beaches, and especially the staff are wonderful at Caneel Bay. You won't find a nicer staff anywhere and we've stayed all over the caribbean. The restaurants on site were great and the staff was again, great. We stayed at turtle bay and ate breakfast everyday at Turtle estate house. Buffet but fresh to order omelets and waffles. ZoZo's italian was amazing. And their grill by the beach is good and has a KILLER sushi bar (yes sushi, japanese chef and all). There's a gift shop with Gelato store attached (we had that nightly) It's 5 bucks per person per way to go to town. There's a number of good restaurants there, and decent shopping at Mongoose Junction. The island is beautiful, there are tons of trails on the property of Caneel (or going from) plus others. Rent a jeep and drive to the other side to check out Coral bay. Nice pictures. To wrap - If you are looking for a high-end hotel room type experience (like say a Regent hotel or Four seasons) this is not that kind of place. The rooms are satisfactory but nothing to write home about. So don't come here for the room. What it is, is a huge huge property where you feel like its never crowded, always plenty of beach chairs at all the beaches (we liked turtle beach the best it was like our private beach with a few other people). The rooms are adequate and they would have been perfect had it not been for the horrible saggy bed and pillows. The staff replaced my pillows but they couldn't do anything about the bed. For what it is worth, the bed didn't bother my wife at all, but I weight over 200 and it was like a hammock to me :) That's my one complaint. PS: Special thanks to Cleo at Turtle Estate for making our dining experiences wonderful and to my man Edwin :) PLUSES: Location, beaches, snorkeling, staff, FOOD (was great), island beautiful, boat tours to BVI great. Wildlife, the Donkeys and deer, etc. MINUSES: Bed and pillows.

The location is gorgeous. Beautiful beaches, views of the Caribbean and gardens. However, on top of the room their is 20% per night surcharge for amenities. In addition, if you want to use the Caneel Bay ferry, it is $55/guest but free to those who are travelling from St. Thomas for dinner - a bit crazy after the excessive room charges and per night surcharges. Food was consistantly very good with terrific selection. Staff could use more training.

Caneel Bay is an absolute treat to the senses. It's a combination of botanical gardens and beautiful beaches. The staff is superb, food is great, views are incredible. All the beaches are great but the private ones offer comfortable chairs with low people numbers. A day spent lounging under the Sea Grapes on Scott Beach enjoying the water, perfect sand beach, and great service from the beach bar is my idea of a perfect day. Prices are in line with other places of similar quality that I have visited. Although there were children there, most of the resort is geared toward adults. Kids will do best at Caneel beach where there is more for them to do.
