spend 5 days here last may. best location, great staff and the roof top bar was a place see and be seen by the locals on the weekends. this place will want you to keep coming back to russia. The hotel car service was fantastic.
Can one imagine, having come to e.g. Paris or London and being native there and switched TV on, that he (she) or... it will enjoy 50+ channels in Hindi or Manitoba dialect and only 2 in French and English? Welcome to W in St.Pete... Otherwise good and clean rooms, friendly staff, good Russian style breakfast. Minuses - dark interiors, labirinth landscape and (!) mind 5% extra on top of your breakfast bill if you put on your room, as Co-Co-Co seems to be on independent mission and hotel does not have its own kitchen! Otherwise it is ideally located and room rate can massage your "why the hell?"
Recently stayed here during a business trip added with two days of leisure. Great location, in walking distance of all the main sights and museums. Rooms are convenient and well designed, in good condition and nice large windows. The shower was amazing and spacious. The breakfast in the morning was extensive and delicious, though staff was not the most hospitable. The rooftop has a spectacular view and is a must if you visit the city!
I should start by pointing out that it was my first stay in a "W". So perhaps my comments here are unfair to St. Petersburg's W as they might be more about W hotels in general than this specific one. The Positive: The hotel is really well located. It's a five minute walk from Hermitage. My room ("the Fabulous room", as they call it) was spacious. Service was at times really good. The Average: I found reception to be chaotic. There are many people there - no wait - but it felt like I was checking in a youth hostel. Everyone was super young, with unfitting uniforms and a bit unsure about what was happening - on and off other people jumping it to 'help'. This is itself is not 'bad', in fact, it was a bit funny, but it's definitely not a choking in experience for a 5 stars hotel! And certainly not in St. Petersburg where there are so many extraordinary hotels. My room was fine but again, I felt like I was walking in a night club. Far too 'hip' with all this cubic and almost fluorescent furniture. Black shinny, almost sparkling walls with a 1980s vibe. I can't really describe it. Clean, functional, sure... but I would never stay there again! For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone over 21 would want to stay here. Oh! And judging from people walking in the corridors... I might actually indeed have been the only person 40 year old in this hotel. But again, these comments here might not be about this W but rather about the W experience anywhere in the world(?) The bad: Room service (food) was quite horrible. Couldn't touch with they called a salad. Strange given that they have quite a famous restaurant located in the hotel. The very bad: The air was making noise all night and yet, it was soooooo hot in the room. I got up multiple times trying to lower the temperature in my room. The next evening, I called reception and they sent an 'engineer' as they called him. Super nice guy but ended up removing all the palets from the heating system along the window - an entire wall - and to cut pieces of insulation fabric to stick on the heaters to 'block' the heat. Took only 10 minutes but this was... confusing to me. Apparently they couldn't just 'adjust' the temperature (?). I ended up sleeping with the window door to the balcony wide open. But then got cold because it was one degree Celsius out.
Hotel is in the center of the city, allowing you to walk around at night and really feel and see the city history and beautiful side of it. hotel staff are friendly and nice but if you are going to stay on the second floor make sure to keep the blinds closed or put on a show for the world... also for some strange reason if you are going to eat at the hotel bar and want to put the bill on your room they will add an additional 5% to your bill as a fine for doing so and will only tell you when you ask for the bill
Comfort. Class. Coziness. Right next to Saint Isaac's Cathedral. Simply a magical experience. We went for 4 nights to Saint Petersburg, our very first time in Russia, and we absolutely loved everything about this place, and of course our hotel was a big part of why our stay was so fantastic. Since its super near Saint Isaac's and the Hermitage, one can easily walk everywhere. The Vodka Museum is also walking distance and a great place to eat and keep warm with delicious vodka! The Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood and Nevsky Propect are at walking distance too. One of the things we loved most of W St. Petersburg was its people and the Spa! We didn't have time for banya, but we compensated with a nice steam room at the Spa. I truely recommend this hotel if your planning your next trip to St. Petersburg!!
We always lived in four seasons in St. Petersburg, but this time decided to stay in W hotel. It was a big mistake. Loby and restaurant are really nice but rooms are bad. Designer doesn’t meen bad quality. Carpet on the floor, sofa and table was dirty. In the room was kitchen smell. I think it is good 4* hotel, but if you are searching dor high quality hotel, this is not your place.
The Hotel has subtle W decoration, the furniture is also good and well kept, it also has great views and well located . The Service is very good and attentive. On the negative side breakfast is not that great , especially this its catered by the Hotel restaurant that offer great food ! Form a famous Russian chef !
... unfortunatelly it's the only Starwood hotel there as well... 1. hotel has only one restaurant whch is managed by third party, food is good, you even can book the table for the breakfast (which is untill 12 on sundays - nice touch), but if you decide to get bill settled to your room you will need to pay extra 5%, + restaurant is small and normally overbooked on weekends, so no way you can sit there without reservation, which I didn't have obviously arriving friday evening - this only leave you with the room service or eat outside 2. on Fridays, sometimes Saturdays hotel is hosting DJ nights... during June - end of September they normally playing at the roof top terrace which is great if you not sleppin under it with open window, but all other times the hotel Lobby area is transformed in to the night club ;-)) with face control and bodyguards, so no way you can invite your friends for the evening cocktail during on Friday or Saturday night after midninght 3. Mpre about music from the Lobby - this night we needed to sleep because of our job early on Saturday, but music from the downstairs can be clearly heard in our room, which was on the 5th floor... I'm really sorry for the people who stayed on 2nd and 3rd floor above the Lobby... 4. TV in the room is outdated - hotel was open 7 years ago and TVs are still the same (this goes to IPod docking station as wel) - 7 years, cooomoon!!! ... I only was trying to watch the movie from my phone or USB Flash card 5. I contacted concierge day before arrival - sent the confirmation of the order I made which should be delivered to the hotel during my flight to St. Petersburg - concierge confirmed that they contacted courier and will be checking the parcell - on Friday evening when I arrived there was no parcel and it was too late to call the delivery company and concierge of course simply forgot about my request.... So,if you're travelling to St. Petersburg and you above 30 years old or needed nice hotel for sightseing or simply coming for work - aviod W St. Petersbug
Hotel with excellent location in central St Petersburg. Comfortable room. Friendly staff. Slow breakfast service for business agenda but fine for weekend. Bar lacks atmosphere and is poorly laid out; possibly why I found it mostly empty. For the next year I am posting #frommybedroomwindow on Instagram for every hotel I visit. Image for W is shown here.
