Nevsky Hotel Grand3.0 out of 5.0

It is less than 10 min from Nevsky Prospect station and walking distance from many attractions or close to the Nevsky avenue where one can take a bus or streetcar to everywhere in town. Breakfast offer is generous and sets you off for the day. My room was an small single but had everything I needed. The reception staff were very helpful and available 24x7. Overall a good place to stay
The location is ideal, close to the Nevski Prospekt and main city highlights. The room I had was very basic but still acceptable, the main problem is the noise. Insulation is non existing. You hear everything from the corridor and adjacent rooms: slamming doors, discussions, people coughing or sneezing, etc. Impossible to sleep. I had a reservation for 4 nights, after the second night I changed to another hotel. The first night there was noise until 1.30 AM, at 5.30 AM it restarted. The second night a group came in at 3 AM, another one at 4.30 AM, the noise lasted until 6 AM, shortly after the first guests started to get up, slamming their doors because most probably they were angry, who can blame them? It is maybe a good place for youngsters who want to party until late into the night, but not for people who are busy the whole day and need to get up early.
If only it was possible to give something NO STARS? The entire experience was HORRIBLE. We had pre-booked and payed from Australia months before. We had received a booking confirmation from the travel agent prior to leaving. We arrived at the hotel and they told us they did not have a reservation for us for the 5 nights we had booked and paid. We showed them the confirmation and they said we do not have it. It was cancelled. They gave us a card for a free drink at the cafe in the hotel and we ordered a drink to settle our nerves. We gave them the vouchers and they said "the voucher is not for that type of drink, you will have to pay for these". Went back to reception which is a 1 star space and they said we do not have a booking at all and we do not have a room available for the 5 nights we were going to stay. You can book for 2 nights. Also they were going to call the police if we did not pay for the drinks immediately. As we had just arrived in Saint Petersburg and did not know the city, we needed a place to stay for the night while we tried to sort things out with the travel agent as it was the middle of the night in Australia. We basically did not have a choice, so we agreed to stay for 1 night and had to pay an even higher rate than we paid originally. We were given a room that was right next door to the cleaners closet and the vacuum cleaner blocked our door. The cleaner started banging things and making noise very early too. The room was tiny and to open your suitcase you had to put it on the bed. Spoke to the travel agent in Australia the next morning and they advised the error was at the hotels end and that I would be refunded by the hotel for the night we stayed. First thing in the morning I went back to reception and advised them of the conversation I had with the travel agent and that I should be given a refund. They said they knew nothing about this. It was not the hotels error, they did not have a booking. They asked if we wanted to stay a second night, but we said no. I have since tried to get the hotel to give a refund like I was advised I would get, but they say it is not their fault and there will be no refund. DO NOT STAY AT Nevsky Hotel Grand!
Compared to Station Z 12, is a Palace, but very modest for European standards ,It happened that we were desperate to move from the previous hotel, our "Friend" and guide probably was in connection with the front desk and they charge us $124.00 US, daily for a places that is advertise half of this price, they catch us with the guard down and went for it without knowing the market price of the hotels in the same area. If any one wants to use this place be very careful, you can get a lot better place for the same $$$
Rooms are very poor. I would disagree that this is a 3 star. Reception is not very helpful and are not happy if you have any problems. First room smelt like someone just been smoking in the room. Asked for another room which then smelt of cat urine. Asked for 3 rd room which was better as just smelt musky. Decor very poor , towels given are very small, This hotel is not appropriate if mobility problems as lots of stairs and no ramps and they have the smallest lift. No coffee or tea in rooms. Breakfast is chaotic and sometimes sent away as no room at the tables. Plus side is the staff in the small restaurant / cafe who are friendly and try to be helpful. It is very central for walking around city centre.
This hotel is located in a very nice street with a garden pedestrian area dividing the two lanes of traffic. Many shop and cafe are just a short walk less than 5 minutes as is one of the main street through St Petersburg Nevsky Avenue great shopping street. Don't be frighten to try any thing Russian when you are in St Petersburg the city is amazing as are the people who are all very helpful and very polite and most speak English so that is a great help. This city will change your mind about Russia if you have had any doubts about Russia. I would love to go back and spend more time there just one of the best experiences ever.
This trip to St. Petersburg was to top off our 6 month trip around the world, the city is great, the weather was great but this hotel was a severe dissapointment. It came on a recommendation but it was the opposite of what I was told. They put us in a room 2.5 by 2.5M, I couldn't even walk to the bed since the sloping walls prevented that. The heating is on all the time, the engineer we called at 1 am at night to stop the noise coming from the radiator confirmed that so you have to sleep with the window open otherwise you suffocate. The noise from outside is deafening, the music plays till 3am or so. For this you can get ear plugs, so I have to suffer since you can't get it right? To put a couple in this doghouse of a room number 714 right opposite the lift a bad decision. If you are staying there avoid that room at all cost. We had a small double bed with a duvet for 1 person, so we got downstairs to ask for a double duvet to sleep under. When we came back there was a second one persons duvet? Rubbish. The last day the house keeping wasn't done till 4pm but on the last morning they were calling the room, knocking and calling us out at 10.30 AM (check out is 12pm) to get us out so they can change it. Not good at all. The breakfast is ok, the people serving there were nice and the location is in the Centre but that is all I can say about this property. We will be coming back to Russia since it is a lovely country but are certainly not going to stay at the Nevsky
This boutique hotel is located in the old city centre just meters away from the famous Nevsky shopping street. Excellent room, a bit small but well equiped. A varied breakfest is offered every day and the friendly staff will help you out in case of any need.
Hotel has good location, but room was small and walls extremely thin. The bed was not comfortable. Service was Ok for the most time. Breakfast room was small and noisy. Good that there was a small safe.
Service was bad and if you have a heavy luggage, forget about this hotel as you have to climb a small flight of stairs to get to the lift. Room was extremely small and it was hard to even find a place to charge my phone. Oh and we could hear the neighbours loud and clear engaging in their activities
