Wife and I stayed there on Saturday, October 5, 2019. Cost with taxes, etc… was $111. Here are some of my comments by topic: LOCATION: Great location. You can walk to numerous restaurants, bars, a museum or two, even the Tropicana Field. There’s a convenience store connected to hotel. We didn’t go in it. There’s a Publix a block away that came in handy. It closes at 10 p.m. AMBIENCE: Older building that doesn’t really strike you as a hotel. You walk in and notice a small cubby where the clerk is. He guided us through one building up the stairs to our room. I’m not sure they have an elevator here. I’d bet they don’t. We were actually a bit apprehensive when we first entered the building. However, room appearance was nice. PARKING: Probably depends on when you stay. There was a warning right up front that the hotel didn’t provide parking. However, it was the day of our reservation that I got an email with even more specifics, e.g. there’s a paid public garage a block away for $3, but you can’t leave your car over night. Much of the street parking is restricted to two hours between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. M-F. We didn’t have trouble finding parking right next to the hotel, but I would caution you that may not be the case if there’s a big event going on. SECURITY: Clerk says to us, I’m going to give you two keys. We thought, “Sure, after all there’s two of us.” He meant one key ring with two keys. These are the types of keys you have for your house, not anything electronic. One key is for your room, the other is for the main hotel door. They lock the main door on or about 10 p.m. and the clerk goes off duty at 10:30 pm. Inside the room, the door had both a door chain and a swing bar lock. Those locks provided us assurance that no one could enter the room even with a copied key. AMENITIES: The room had a mini-fridge, microwave, two-cup coffee pot (with coffee/creamers). The room had a small, but new in appearance, window air conditioning unit. It provided sufficient air conditioning to make the room comfortable. The room also had a TV with a ROKU connection. If you have accounts with any of the major streaming services (Sling, Netflix, Vudu, …..), it’ll be like you’re at home. It claimed to have cable TV but we couldn’t get it to work. The plastic covered sheet left in the room gave troubleshooting guidance to get cable TV, we tried them, but no luck. The room also had WiFi. It froze frequently and after 10:30 pm we could not get back on it. PRIVACY: One thing I particularly didn’t like and wasn’t prepared to go looking for another hotel once I was there, was the insistence that I turn over my driver’s license so the clerk could photo copy it. He explained it was to verify who I was. I said he only need look at my drivers license to verify my identity. He said it was the hotel policy. In this day of identity thief, I don’t like turning over my address, birthday, DL #, etc…. After all, the room was booked and paid for online. BATHROOM: I only address this because as I mentioned this appears to be an older building. The shower drained slowly, but it did eventually drain. The bathroom had clean towels, two mini soap bars and mini bottles of shampoo. Toilet, shower, sink all worked fine along with hot and cold water. I’d caution you to have toilet paper handy. The only paper in the room was on the roll. Nothing else was apparent. There were no tissue boxes either. CLEANLINESS: My wife and I gave this place 5 and half stars on cleanliness. It was impressively clean. There was no dirt or bugs at all.
I think one or maybe one and a half stars is what this property should rate but the staff were always pleasant and that must equate to an additional half star at least. There is a lot wrong with this place, the shower drips as does the basin. The shower outlet is only about 150cm above the floor and there is no plug for the bath should you want to use the tub. There was a small workstation which would have been handy except the only power point was 150cm away. I had to re-tune the television every night or I only had one channel to watch. The room had a ironing board but no iron. On the upside, the room was large enough to be comfortable and had plenty of storage. The wi-fi is secure and you are close to just about everything, convenience shops, restaurants, diners and public transport.
