The Westin Dawn Beach Resort & Spa, St. Maarten

Resort fees and taxes really add up and kids club charges were very high.

Very nice overall, Atlantic side rough compared to the Caribbean but that is expected. Beach accessed directly from hotel extra nice Food very good in restaurants. Grab and go coffee excellent for early risers Staff super friendly and helpful. Good morning! Heard all around the resort such a nice change from the northeast

Could have been a Westin in Cincinnati. No specific charm. No romance. OK food. Really poor lighting at the outdoor restaurant which could be the showcase of the hotel. This is NOT a spa.

One of the best over all. Breakfast was good but needed to go out for dinner.

They've kept the hotel maintained very nicely. Beautiful pool area leading directly onto the beach. Staff is very friendly. Prices at the restaurants and hotel shop are not low, but they are fair for the location.

We were upgraded after one night to ocean view and it was great.

Good experience. Casino in hotel was fun. Security was good and no outside vendors to bother hotel guests. A bit far from town so having a rental is very helpful. One huge tip on car rental-take a photo of all angles of the car in case of any scratch and ding not recorded during checkout. Rush hour traffic (morning: 7:30-9:00; evening: 4:30-5:45) is horrendous and parking is difficult. suggestion for excursions: Visit St. Barth and Shoal Bay in Anguilla. Viator did a good job on St. Barth trip with a hotel pickup. But Shoal Bay Full Day BBQ Lunch was excellent, but need a taxi pickup at hotel. Best to have more people in taxi, 4 people = $40 or 3 people for same price as 4 people. Pinel Island, which is 15 minutes drive from the hotel, was also a good place to visit. You can take the ferry across or rent a Kayak or paddle board to go across. Once on the island, you can rent the chair and umbrella for $25 or find a shade under the coconut trees for free. Food and drink from the two restaurants on the Island are exceptionally good. Enjoy!

this hotel is due for an update, the bed and bedding were fine but mostly everything else was due for major updates.

the food at Ocean was terrible as was the service. How ever any other service we had was good to very good. I did have a situation at the front desk with one of the employees. I needed to freeze 2 ice packs to transport my medication home. I asked at the front desk and the person who helped me - or lack there of - told me they were not able to freeze the packs. I explained I needed them to transport medication - he left with the pack for about one minute came back set the pack down and said, there is nowhere on property that we can freeze this for you......no sorry - nothing. So I spent the day trying to figure out how to get this medication back. Fortunately the concierge was able to help me, for all I know she took them home and froze them. She was extremely helpful and I can not thank her enough. Before she helped with this situation she recommend amazing restaurants ever night we were there.

It was almost dangerous to look confused, as they were so preemptively helpful and accommodating, you could genuinely hurt some feelings when you have to declare a false alarm. I had a wonderful stay.

My daughter and I stayed 5 nights for some R&R and it was lovely. Very private and beautiful location. The beach cabana personnel were excellent and the spa was very nice. Fitness center was small but had enough for a pretty good workout. Food was good and the dining recommendations were excellent (Daniels by the Sea in Oyster Bay around the corner was terrific). Easy to get to other spots on the island (rented car) as the Westin personnel gave great directions.

My stay here at the Westin Dawn was both work-related and part vacation. Although the stay at the hotel itself is covered (not including food/drinks) by my job, I will be reviewing it from the point-of-view of someone who had to pay for everything. First off, the majority of the staff was quite welcoming and friendly especially the bell hop and this one particular waitress who worked at their ocean restaurant during breakfast hours. She was very accommodating and frequently stopped by to see if we needed anything. Despite that, I have to say the service was still below average. Every hostess we encountered into at the ocean restaurant, whether it was dinner or breakfast was rude. As if they did not want to be bothered and would give us short quick answers. We (my girlfriend and I) attended their breakfast buffet three of the 5 days and dinner buffet once at their Ocean restaurant and utensils were constantly missing. We sat down and they gave me a knife and fork and just gave my girlfriend a fork. Another instance there were no napkins! Anywhere! I looked around and saw one singular napkin rolled into a ball as if it were used and tossed on one of their service tables. I decided I would wait around to ask the waitress if they might be able to find me a new one. So I stop a random waitress and politely ask for one she walks right over to that dirty rolled up napkin and hands it to me. I opened it up and there are stains all over it. I mean, come on now. One day we got to the breakfast relatively late (30 minutes before closing) and we went to get our first plate and sat down and ate. After we finished there was about 15 minutes left, so I went to get fruits which were all already packaged and taken away. When asked about the fruits, the woman food server, gave me a blank stare and didn't utter a word, just walked away and came back with a huge bowl of pineapples? Huh? Am I not allowed to tell you what I want and how much? Is there no common sense in this establishment? Some pros: The infinity pool was beautiful and so was their beach. An older crowd for sure, but made for a very peaceful stay. The rooms were nice and clean every day which we appreciated, although our view was not the best (resort view). They also have a decent gym, max weight in dumbbells 50lb with several treadmills and ellipticals, also equipped with water dispenser. Tip: Don't touch the towels, as nicely rolled as they are, they stink of sweat as if they have been used already. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel as it was extremely pricey and not worth it considering the level of service you are getting. If it were not my job covering the stay, I would have rather stayed at an all-inclusive and somewhere closer to a younger crowd.

The experience at arrival was underwhelming. I wasn't given a warm welcome and was waiting on line to check in with only one front desk person working. Immediately I noticed the decor of the hotel is outdated and worn out. You get the impression that the hotel isn't well maintained. After getting past the initial negative sentiment about the hotel, the experience improved. We were given a nice free upgrade, though had to reject the first room we were given because the carpet had a big, nasty pink stain. I was surprised they'd give out a room like that, but was very appreciative for the free upgrade, as well as the chocolate covered strawberries the manager David sent to make up for the inconvenience. The room we ended up getting was much better though definitely in need of a renovation. The staff was probably the best part of the hotel. They were very nice, accommodating, and truly cared to make our stay as best as possible. The outdoor area was also a plus. Beautiful, spacious pool overlooking the Dawn Beach. Dawn beach was very remote and beautiful but the seaweed there is abundant and ruins the beach in my opinion. One thing to keep in mind for anyone staying at this hotel is that cabs are extremely expensive. I would highly recommend renting a car, which you can do right at the hotel. It saves you a heck of a lot of money. Just beware driving at night in the beginning is slightly scary with the windy roads and no street lights in many areas. Overall, loved St maarten, but Westin needs to spend a lot of money fixing up the hotel.

From the moment you checked in, you could feel the marvelous hospitality offered by everyone at the resort. After you checked in, the manager actually called you to welcome you and to make sure everything was ok. I had stayed at many 4-star, 5-star resorts in the past, never got a call from a manager like this time. The Pirate night was a great dinner event organized by the Ocean restaurant. Should be on your must-do list. This resort has a beautiful pool and a beautiful beach. I have no complaints whatsoever.

The staff was very nice and accommodating. Very friendly and warm to our children. we will definitely come back!! Although it is a large hotel has a wonderful boutique feel

We are world travelers and have stayed in the finest Hotels in Europe as well the US. This was a first trip to St. Maarten and without question a most memorable experience. When we arrived we were greeted with a level of warmth that was beyond what we thought we would experience. The attention to detail, the ease of checking in was without question one of the best experiences. From that moment to our beach side and pool side attention, to the wonderful dinners with pampered care I would stay here again and I must confess I am a Ritz Carleton member accustomed to the finest treatment and care. The staff at the Westin was exemplary in every detail. My hat is off the General Manager who also came by to visit us and offered a personal gesture to anything that we needed day or night. This was a fabulous experience!

I stayed one night on my 50th birthday. And I have to say the whole time couldn't have been better. The wonderful staff made my stay a perfect experience Thanks all at the Westin, you rule!

The hotel had great accommodations and was very clean. Ocean view was spectacular and we would definitely go back to the same location.

We had a great time at the Westin. It's on a secluded and more upscale part of the island so you are away from the touristy part. The pool area and beach are great. Some of the bar tenders in the lobby and at the pool bar are not the most friendly of people, but the front desk, concierge, and management staff could not have been nicer and more professional - especially Fran at the concierge's desk.

We loved the Westin and St Maarten! When looking online I thought the Westin looked like the best Hotel on the island. We prefer to be right on the beach than the center of town. We had a rental car which is a must there. The Westin was beautiful and met our expectations. It is approx. 20-30 minutes from the downtown, nightlife, and dining. If you prefer to be in the action then this is not the hotel for you. We love the action at night, but like being away from it all during the day and able walk out to the beach and have a beautiful pool on the premises. We had no problem getting a lounge chair at the pool or on the beach. Everyone was friendly on the resort. We are planning to go back to St Marteen as we didn't get to do everything we wanted in 5 days (this is better as a 7 day trip), St Marteen has amazing dining, lots to do and is safe to venture out. We recommend this hotel and would book the Westin again!
