friendly, quiet and relaxed

My husband and I stayed at Hawksbill Resort because we didn't need a lot of amenities, we wanted to stay on the west side of the island, it was all-inclusive, and the location was beautiful. Although the resort needs better wifi and renovations, our stay there was great. They have a wonderful staff, a good buffet for a smaller resort, and four relaxing beaches to choose from. Because the resort is on a hillside, it's not handicap accessible. I point this out because my husband sprained his ankle before arriving and after seeing a doctor on Antigua, he ended up on crutches and couldn't walk much. The staff and management went out of their way to accommodate us in our needs. Overall, Hawksbill is a great value for your money.

I stayed in one of the beachfront cottages furthest away from Eden Beach. It was clean and roomy. The bathroom was huge with a large garden tub, separate shower, bidet, and 2 sinks. More room than most hotels in the US. The bed sheets were thick cotton - really nice! The A/C will keep it cold if you want. The food was good (never cold, as some have said). But I always arrived when the serving started. I can only assume those who've complained about the food came after the buffet had been open more than an hour. Dinner is always a buffet. A breakfast buffet is served, or you can order from the short-order egg guy. I loved the waterfront toys - kayaks and 14' Hobie Cat. Sailing was load of fun around the bay and Hawksbill rock. Eden Beach was also wonderful! I'd guess it's half a mile long. Almost deserted, with plenty of beach loungers scattered around under the palm trees. There is privacy if you want it, and others on the beach if you want to strike up a conversation. I went every day and loved it. I was in room 120, almost to the northern end of the property. I had good internet coverage - good enough for WiFi calling. The bandwidth isn't great, but certainly adequate. There is a phone, fridge, and hot water heater in the room, but no TV. The coffee is instant (just add the hot water). Hawksbill isn't close to anything else, so it will be a cab ride if you decide to leave the resort. If you want to get away from it all, you'll love it.

Beautiful grounds and beach front bungalows excellent. Majority of staff is superior however if anything in your room needs attention forget it. 7 days in a row I was promised a safe key sometimes 2x a day but it must come from maintenance who still never responded. Badly need some type of follow up on problems without having to complain to management. Serious lack of beach loungers as towels were left on chairs all night. If a chair is not used in days someone on staff should be allowed to remove the towel.

Great location, beautiful beaches, well protected from ocean swell. Rooms are a bit run down & in need of maintenance above and beyond a refurb. LOTS of houseflies, which I always find a bit concerning. Good food, good selection & quality of drinks. Excellent staff.

Staff was wonderful. Clean place, food was delicious and had no problem. Very welcoming And great atmosphere

This is an oldschool Caribbean, quaint friendly all inclusive experience. I would recommend it for its unique, non-commercial ambiance. It could use some updates an repairs but the setting, quietness, and beach is tough to beat.

Extremely peaceful property. It is a little outdated and is definitely a three star. If you go expecting more you will be disappointed. We loved the privacy of the beaches, the staff were friendly and the other guests pleasant and respectful. You can see Montserrat, Redonda and St Kitts from the property on clear days!

Great place to get away from it all. But sometimes lacks running water, Air conditioning didn't work well, and the food was dismal. Birds, cats, and flies are everywhere in the restaurants and happily help themselves to the food laid out. VERY slow restaurant service. 4 wonderful beaches, extremely scenic island, but a cheaply run, and extremely rundown property. Better choices on this beautiful island at the same price.

Bugs, bugs, bugs ateme alive even with using spray and candles for protection The birds at meal times were relentless . Food is average (birds loved it though) and not presented with any imagination or variety.

For the location, you would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spot. Great beaches, sandy bottom and greenery abounds. The hotel itself feels a bit dates and the rooms, common areas need a facelift. The breakfast and lunches were good, dinner could have been tastier. I found the staff to be courteous and easy going. We came here to get away and lay on the beach and were very happy. -D

Wonderful taste of Antigua. Lovely grounds, terrific beaches, great food and gracious and caring hosts made for a truly special holiday. Don't go if you expect glitz, air conditioning and 24/7 activity, but if you want to meet great people and relax this is your place! We will go back.

GOT BITTEN ALIVE IN BED, CLOGGED SHOWER DRAIN,NO INTERNET AVAILABLE

hawksbill is lowkey with great staff and great people. beautiful beaches but no bells and whistles. then again i don't want bells ans whistles

No in room TV or a/c, but there is bang for the buck if you can get past the older fascility.

hawksbill is all about a beautiful location, friendly staff and interesting guests. it is just sunshine and pleasant conversation. it does not have a bustling night life. it is more intimate than that. beach books and a beverage.

My wife and I just returned from spending a week at Hawksbill. As other reviews have mentioned, the resort is a little dated, but I thought it was very well maintained. We had no problems with things not working and they keep the entire resort very clean. The location is fantastic. It's situated by itself and feels very private. There are no other resorts very close by and the week we where there (Valentines day week), the resort was only about 2/3 full. The beaches were never crowded and there was no problem finding good beach chairs. As far as the beaches go, they are all beautiful, but Eden beach (the 4th beach) is by far the best. It's the biggest and has more shady spots than the others. The only thing I felt that was less than great about Hawksbill was the inconsistency of some of the staff. Many were very friendly and seemed to enjoy what they were doing and really made the effort to insure the guests were happy. However, there were some who seemed to be just slogging through another boring day and really did not appear to be at all interested in whether you were having a good time or whether you needed a drink refill. The lunch staff at the SeaGrapes restaurant/bar seemed to be the least enthusiastic. Most of the guests we met while we were at Hawksbill where from England and seemed to be in the age range of 55-65. Not as many younger people as some of the other resorts we've been to in the past. My wife and I decided we were going to rent a car and drive around the island for a day. If you've never driven on the left side of the road (like in England), Antigua is not the place to try it for the first time. The roads are very narrow, not well marked, and road maintenance is non-existent. If you're driving from Hawksbill to any place else on the Island, you have to go through downtown St. Johns (there's no other way as it's the only road to Hawksbill) The streets in town are some of the worst roads I have ever been on. We ended up blowing out a tire when we hit a pot-hole coming up to a traffic light in St. Johns. We changed the tire and turned around and went back to the resort. Way too stressful for a vacation that was supposed to be relaxing. We ended up doing a full day sightseeing tour of the island with a local jeep tour operator named "Shelley". He was great and my wife and I really enjoyed the day. Overall, if you're looking for a great place to sit by the beach, read a book and relax, I would recommend Hawksbill. Don't go there looking for 4-star accommodations and lots to do.
