My wife and I chose this resort for its location and we were not dissappointed. The view from the pool is simply beautiful. The guestrooms have character and are comfortable. The only downside really is Food and Beverage. Buffet offering is the norm and if you want to eat à la carte at dinner time, this is clearly a bother to the staff. That said the dishes we ordered was always well presented and tasty. The buffet breakfast offering is all self service including tea and coffee. Basically no service. Overall a very good stay.
Happen to visit sigiriya with family and stayed sigiriya village one night. There was a huge queue for the dinner and most of the items were finished by the time we arrived tables. No one to tell or negotiate or no one with positive behavior to be polite to guests.
A great hotel in a wonderful natural environment. We spent 4 nights as a family. We were helpfully accommodated with our request for two adjoining rooms. Both rooms were adequate and comfortable for our needs. The only drawback was no mini fridge in the room. The swimming pool was great. The view from the pool area of the rock fortress was really special. Staff in the lobby/bar and restaurant area were polite and helpful. The food was great and there was a good choice available. We all enjoyed the various wildlife walking around near our rooms and around the hotel.
Apart from being close to Lion Rock I don't think this hotel has much going for it. We arrived at our room and as soon as we opened the door we were confronted with a strong smell of mould and mildew. The airconditioner was covered in mould and didn't function properly. The room surfaces were also quite dirty. I refused to stay in it. These rooms had obviously not been checked for any form of quality control and that is a management issue! Another room was offered however, it had similar issues to the first. They sprayed the room however, this did nothing other than to disguise the problem. We were getting no where with reception until our tour guide got involved resulting in the whole group being upgraded to much cleaner and better rooms. Breakfast and dinner were reasonable with quite a good choice of meals but mainly curries. The hotel has great grounds however, most of the water features were closed presumably for cleaning. I would not recommend staying at this hotel unless a lot of cleaning, maintenance and upgrading of airconditioning takes place. Ongoing maintainance of machinery and infrastructure does receive the attention it should throughout Sri Lanka
Nice lavish garden. Silent and peaceful. Polite staff. A litle bit overpriced. Rooms are big and clean. Food in restaurant is not enough varios for this luxury resort. Drinks are overpriced.Internet is in lobby area only.
It's sad to see that this property with its amazing location in the vicinity to the lion rock and views of it is in such a poor state. The Sigiriya Village hotel needs an immediate refurbishment in all aspects from its rooms to its common areas. I am sure with this refurbishment done the hotel will definitely live up to its glory days again.
Unfortunately I have to say that we didn't have a good experience at this hotel. We tried to use the mini bar but it was very dirty with some mold and a bad smell that could've beem slightly felt in the bedroom. The room was also very far from the reception which was not a big problem for us but it might be for some people. We stayed only one night and it was Ok just to sleep, but if you intend to stay more time you could find better places for this price.
We stayed as a family of four at this property in March 2018, and would recommend the hotel. The rooms are all little bungalows, which is a nice thing for a family. We were in a triple room. The room was quite spacious, with a queen bed (it may have actually been a king), a twin bed, and plenty of "living space." The bathroom was the nicest we had in Sri Lanka--completely modern, with both a shower room and a whirpool tub, and very large. The room had a mini-fridge, but this was not plugged in when we arrived, and when we tried it to see if it worked, it did not ever come on. Presumably if this was something you needed, the staff would arrange for one. The air conditioning worked very well, and the room also had a fan to help cool it. The staff here were attentive and helpful. We booked several experiences through the hotel (safaris, driver to Polonnaruwa, etc) and it was an easy thing each time. We even had a small mishap where our youngest daughter left her shoe in our safari jeep, and the staff quickly contacted the driver and arranged to have it delivered to us the next morning before we left. All of the drivers/guides we had on these experiences were professional and knowledgable. The only downsides to this hotel are some of the public amenities. The restaurant buffet is okay--its Sri Lankan options were of a much higher quality than its Western or Chinese options--but it had adequate selection. We ate there every morning for breakfast and three nights for dinner. The bar was also okay. My husband had a cocktail one evening that was not particularly well-mixed, but adequate. The pool is small but nice, and has a lovely view of SIgiriya rock. The other major issue was with the Wifi, which is only available in the main restaurant/bar area. It worked okay during the day, but in the evening (presumably when more people were trying to use it) we never succeeded in getting any of our devices to connect. We were not the only travelers to have this problem. One final note: this hotel seems to cater to tour groups. We had no problem with this at all, but I mention it for other travelers' awareness.
With views of the rock behind the pool this hotel was perfect for us to wind down after our hike. The rooms are spacious and we'll equipped although there isn't any wifi outside of the lobby area. The main lobby and restaurant is welcoming. The bar is full and the cocktails aren't bad - a little sweet but I've found that all over the country. The buffet itself was really good, I recommend the dahl and rice but there is also pasta and pizza if you fancy. Breakfast was here in the morning too and had eggs and bread along with croissants should you wish.
We stayed as part of a tour group and found the hotel very comfortable and met our needs admirably. Staff were efficient and rooms were kept extremely well. Our tour guide did say we were in recently refurbished rooms which were a generous size. The view of Lion Rock from the pool and dining area was magic. Food was buffet service with a wide range to cater for all tastes. Bathroom amenities and safe were appreciated. House keeping staff kept us amused with their turn down service. It was a great location to stay for four nights allowing day trips to be undertaken easily. Within the grounds we saw plenty of monkeys and beautiful birds.
