We stayed here one night during our family trip, Like others have mentioned this is more like a homestay. It is located a little far from the main attractions in Kandy, The manager Christopher was very friendly and helpful regarding what to see in Kandy. The rooms were large and clean. There were a lot of ants along the doorway of our bathroom. As our rooms did not have AC, maybe a little musty as well. The WiFi is poor in the rooms but excellent upstairs in the lobby. The showers were not bad. Breakfast was $8/person and a mix of English and Sri Lankan food with fresh fruit and passion fruit juice. It was good overall. Overall, a good place to stay. If you are only in Kandy only for a day, you might consider staying closer to town though.
Very hospitable managers a plus....the manager has worked in tourism industry for over 3 decades, and is well behaved and friendly... rooms are average though...and this place is more like a guest house than a lodge....lack of lift a negative though...we were provided rooms in -2 floor ....getting to this place also a challenge as it is far off and not easy to locate....of course we could get to this place only by calling the manager of the hotel.....although the food is costly and not vegeterian friendly, the manager was kind enough to order some excellent egg noodles for us.... next day the owner spend some time with us and he is quite friendly as well...view from the room is all greenery and good though......
We were staying at Regent Lodge for 3 nights only but we so got used to it that in the end we felt like at home. The location is amazing - it's just in the heart of the nature and out of the busy life of city. The room was cosy and comfortable. Even it's a guest house we had room cleaning every day. They will also provide some extra amenities for which usually you have to pay in any other guest houses. We loved the dinning place - it's small terrace facing jungles. Sometimes during the breakfast you can enjoy jumping monkeys in a step from the house. :) The owners are very intelligent and friendly so that was amazing to have a nice talk in the evening with the cup of Sri Lankan tea. As well they are happy to help you with any questions about Sri Lanka or to organiz any kind of tours. We really liked this place and definitely roccomend it for families and couples.
Stayed recently whilst on work. A tranquil environment and a very homely stay. The rooms were spacious and well laid out, and the scenery of the distant hills provided an invigourating experience. The breakfast was wholesome and good; overall, a very relaxing place to stay. Ideal for quiet writing.
We really enjoyed our stay at Regent Lodge after a previous disastrous night at a different Kandy accomodation. We were able to check in very early, we got there about 9am expecting to only leave our bags but our room was ready and we were welcomed with a tea & coffee with ginger biscuits, and a super-friendly Dudley. Dudley gave us advice on where to go, and arranged a fantastic driver to take us to Dambulla and Sigiriya. The shared areas are wonderful with fantastic views across the hills, a lovely place to sit. We ate there once and it was a really good meal, albeit by far the most expensive meal we had in SL ($20 each for a fixed 4 course menu - far too much food for us to eat). Breakfasts were lovely (and included in the price), when we mentioned that we had had difficulty getting string hoppers the previous night we were surprised with them the next morning for breakfast - a really nice touch. The room was a touch expensive for a room with no A/C, and Dudley and his wife can be a bit overbearing at times (and a little bit snobbish) but overall it was a lovely stay, and we found that the Sri Lanka way was generally a little bit over-friendly for our English reservedness - others may love it. The area is very humid so things were a little bit damp and the blankets smelt musty probably because of that, and there were quite a few mossies about but there's not a lot that can be done about that. Overall I would recommend
The hotel is situated in a quiet district 10 mins form the centre of Kandy with wonderful views and for us there it stopped . With the exception of a wonderful cook the rest of our stay was ruined by a greedy and overbearing owner who not only talked us into the most expensive meal we had in Sri Lanka which was no different than any other typical meal but then showed his greedy hand by charging us double the price for a room that unfortunately due to a booking mistake had been booked as a single. I offered to get the booking company to rearrange it but he wouldn't have it and so we ended paying double the rate we should have. The rooms were adequate , the bathrooms pitiful but the common area were spacious and comfortable with lovely views. Fortunately the owner left the morning after we arrived - we never saw him again so we were left to the place alone which in itself wasn't too bad. I wouldn't recommend this place though for value for money! (the wi fi was a disaster too!)
Having agreed not to stay in the centre of Kandy itself, we couldn't have made a better choice. From the moment we arrived Dudley made sure we felt at home and with the help of his amazing staff catered for my Celiac Disease brilliantly. The food was fabulous, he must have the best cook in Sri Lanka! He also helped us arrange trips and our onward journey to Nureya Elia. The property is only a few minutes drive or about 30 mins walk from the centre of Kandy but it's a peaceful and beautiful location. If you arrive by train or bus take a Tuk Tuk, all the drivers know where it is.
Regent Lodge is a bright and airy property, which has been beautifully and tastefully designed. It is approx. 10 mins out of the busy centre of Kandy in a quiet neighbourhood....and has magnificent views of the hills. We did not find the location a problem, and used tuk tuks whenever we wanted to get around. We kept the number of the driver, who was very reliable and came to pick us up wherever we were and whenever we needed him. The owners are exceptional hosts, and offer warm and welcoming service and hospitality. They were always ready to help with any queries and arrangements, and we were made to feel like very special house guests. Bedrooms are spacious, and our room (No.16) had a door which opened onto a patio and small garden area. If you are lucky, you may see monkeys playing in the trees! Beds are large and very comfortable, and bedlinen and towels were changed daily....a real touch of luxury. At times, the room did feel rather damp, but the level of humidity was very high. It did not spoil our stay. Breakfasts are a real feast, and a good choice of local or Western food is offered. As there are not really any great restaurants in Kandy, we opted to eat 'in house' during our stay. A four course Dinner is available, and we chose to eat typically local food. This was delicious and served very professionally. Alcoholic drinks are available at reasonable prices. We have no hesitation in recommending Regent Lodge. It offers a comfortable and peaceful place to stay.....and a real 'sanctuary' to return to after the noise and hustle and bustle of Kandy, or a hectic day of sightseeing! Definitely 'Far From the Madding Crowd' !! Thank you to Dudley and his Wife for making us feel so welcome.
This was my third trip to Sri Lanka and I have stayed at numerous hotels and guest houses all around the island. Regent Lodge with its incredibly friendly owners was without a doubt the best of them all. Being greeted with a cup of tea and ginger biscuits upon arrival and having a friendly welcome chat was the perfect start to our stay. The rooms were quiet, clean and the beds were comfy. We were 5 girls with 2 separate reservations and when we arrived one was missing. The owner sorted this out without stress and a very friendly and service minded demeanor. More than anything our days at Regent felt like staying with family rather than being guests at a guesthouse and it was much appreciated. The only small problem we encountered was the tuk-tuks not knowing where to drive as it was a little bit out of town. They tried to take us on a tour around the lake, but luckily we knew where to drive. Get written directions and it will not be a problem. Furthermore, breakfast was lovely, they provided laundry service like a top-notch hotel and the dinner we had felt like dining out at a proper restaurant. When leaving we were also given advice on possible places to stay in Colombo. I have only good things to say about this place and recomment it to anyone who wants a friendly and safe place to stay.
We agreed that this place were beautiful! We were also very pleased with our room. We were very happy with the level of service provided. Everyone was very friendly and accomodating. We did have to wait 10 minutes for our room to be ready upon check-in. However, our request for late check-out was granted with no problems.
