It was amazing experience, one of the best. The staff , the service, the food. Clean rooms and the view fantastic. highly recommended, I will definitely come again. The buffet and menu, with excellent variety. Perfect .
Check in excellent, amazing views in bar area of Lion’s Rock, towels and drinks on arrival. Room was nice, bed comfortable although did creak a bit, clean, had a safe in the room, bathroom was fine, nothing special. Evening meal was good, service good, ordered off the al a carte menu, 800-1300 LKR ish per main meal. Breakfast was very good. No problem for reception to change bigger notes for smaller. Pool area was very nice, water attendant very helpful getting loungers and towels prepared for you. Bar staff were very good, as they got to know you, you didn’t have to worry about telling them your room number every time you wanted a drink and you didn’t have to sign there and then every time, you could sign at the end, which I liked. Check out fine, no problem paying tab with credit card. Would definitely go again and would recommend for anyone staying in Sigiriya.
It was a really good experience. Staff is very good and helpful. Hotel managers ( Mr Manoj, Mr kinsly and Milinda ) and all the starf helped a lot to us to make our stay comfortable. Food is really grate. Higly recommended. Definitely visit again.
We arrived early and were invited to sit by the pool looking up at the Sigiriya rock. The view is quite stunning. Hot towels and a cooling drink were provided while we waited a short time for our room to be completed. The hotel is situated a short walk outside of the village; a pleasant stroll in the daytime but probably best avoided when dark. It is situated in a very natural setting with wildlife in abundance. We spotted a mongoose, land monitors, playful monkeys (jumping around on the roofs) and birds a plenty. The staff are friendly, professional and eager to please. The buffet amongst the best we have ever experienced, with a wide choice available at both breakfast and dinner. A la carte is also available if you don't feel that you can take full advantage of the copious fare available. Rooms were large and comfortable. All in all an amazing place.
Our room was part of a quadrangle with a nice garden in the centre with a small pond complete with turtles. The pool area is lovely with a great view of the rock. Plenty of sun-loungers around and towels. The bar is open to the pool and view and do good bar snacks if you want a full meal. The food is of good quality and the breakfasts are great. We did get a little cold at night, and hadn't seen the blankets in the wardrobe, but I was given a warm fleece blanket as soon as I asked the room boy. The service was good.
We stayed here as a birthday treat during our tour of the cultural triangle as the Sigiriya Hotel is much more like an international hotel than the other places we stayed in during our tour of the cultural triangle. As such, the Sigiriya Hotel was everything we expected it would be. The rooms were large, pleasent and well equipped with all your expected amenities. The bathroom was modern, complete with power shower and a complimentary toothbrush which is great if you are dirty and have teeth. The resort had a lovely villagey feel with its wooden beams and single storey complexes. The pool was mostly empty and, of course, has stunning views onto Lion's Rock; a real one-of-a-kind feast for the eyes and a beautiful backdrop to many a photo. The international buffet was a delight and every day it was stocked with delicious, quality dishes. The entertainment in the middle of the buffet (be it a band, singer etc) set a really nice ambiance for our evening meals. One thing the Sigiriya excel in is offering special treatments - be it spa, pamper or culinary. We opted for the latter and enjoyed a special Tree House meal which involved 5 courses plus wine in a beautiful treetop cabin. A unique birthday experience for my mother on her 50th year. The staff throughout our stay were fantastically friendly and helped with tailoring a special menu, providing a birthday cake and even helping to decorate her room for her celebration. I recommend the Sigiriya Hotel if you want to experience an international, more 'homely' hotel with great food, staff and ambiance. One drawback we experienced was that we had a small gecko/lizard who lived in a gap in our wooden ceiling. Not much of a problem most of the time, but in the middle of the night the damn thing would chirp and sing an amazingly loud song that echoed around the entire room and (as you can imagine) caused a mild panic attack the first time he called out. He did this both nights we stayed. I'm sure we could have moved, but we were settled and after all we were the guests in his house and not the other way around!! :D
After a perfect stay at Mount Lavinia Hotel at a lower price, we had great expectations for Hotel Sigiriya as it charged us more. It turned out to be a big disappointment. 1. We had to drive on a lengthy bumpy dirt road off the main road to reach this place. 2. We went quickly to the Lion Rock after checking into our room. Only to find upon return that House Keeping service left the room's back door unlocked. The back door opens right into the back yard. Someone could have entered our room while we were out. 3. The bed was not comfortable and the bedsheet was so thin that you can see through it to the mattress beneath it (see attached photos). It felt like sleeping in the bare mattress on which another guest did the night before. On top of it, there was another thin sheet which we were supposed to use as cover. We called house keeping and only to be told that we could fetch a blanket from the closet ourselves. 4. There was even no facial tissue in the room. With that said, I should say that the staff at the front desk were very friendly. They provide a complimentary welcome drink. That was nice. You can see the rock from the hotel's swimming pool, even though the hotel is still far from the lion rock.
Checked into Hotel Sigiriya late this afternoon. Check in was efficient and friendly front desk staff. The hotel has pleasant grounds. We have a room with a two twin beds put together, but there is just one white sheet in bed, no blanket or any other bedding material. The bed is not made. After I inquired about this with the front desk, a housing staff came to the room. He insisted this is what the hotel has, just a white sheet. If we need a blanket, we can find one in the closet. If this is the standard bedding of the hotel, then I paid too much for my room (US$161.35).
I stayed here for 2 nights in March 2018 - such a pleasure and wish it could have been longer. The staff were so welcoming, hospitable and always polite. The rooms were comfortable and everything worked efficiently. The pool with its view of Sigiriya rock was a most impressive view. Would I recommend this hotel, without a doubt.
I hate to write bad reviews, but I feel like I need to warn others about this place. I honnestly don't even know where to begin. My family of 11 stayed here over Christmas, thinking it would be a lovely, clean spot with a view. What a nightmare. I agree with the other reviewers that when you enter the rooms there is a musty wet smell. My parents are from Sri Lanka and the food was nowhere near authentic (not to mention overpriced)! The first night we were awoken at 2am by monkeys, who were on our roof all morning so we weren't able to sleep. That's unfortunately not the worst part. I woke up in the morning to find a cockroach running down my pants...the thought that in order for the cockroach to have been in my pants, it must have crawled in while I was sleeping still gives me the creeps! We left for a bit and came back to find a WORM in the bed (see attached picture). I went to my parents room later in the day and saw an infestation of bugs IN the wall in their room (see picture)...which again we had to call the front desk about. I can go on and on, it was all frankly a bizarre experience. I've traveled to 35+ countries in my life, but this ranks as one of the worst hotels we've stayed at. Being in nature, I totally understand the monkey situation. That, the hotel doesn't have control of. They do, however have control of cockroaches and the number of bugs we saw in the room. Reading from the reviews it doesn't seem like we were the only one with bug issues, so just beware of all the issues when booking this place. Had we understood how unsanitary the place is we definitely would not have stayed here! If you must stay here, avoid any of the food. The hotel required us to pay for an insanely overpriced awful Christmas dinner (something like $50USD) which again was a total disappointment. Save your money, sleep and bug spray and stay at one of the other many hotels!
