A bit of the way but well worth it. Amazing hotel, masterpiece by Geoffrey Bawa. Not to be missed if you are anywhere nearby

We stayed in a deluxe room. Gorgeous, love the fact that the bathroom and bedroom have open glass looking into nature. You can shower looking at monkeys playing outside your window (don't worry, plenty of trees to preserve your modesty). Overall very comfortable, plush, clean. Excellent and responsive hotel staff. Highly recommended. Only down side is that we had been told about the wonderful Kandalama buffets with a huge selection of great food. Unfortunately either we were mislead, or we were unlucky. We only had a fairly mediocre international buffet, with a very limited selection of Sri Lankan food, and a few grilled meats cooked on the verandah. I think this is probably because we were there on a weekend AND it was low season. Warning to those who think with their stomach (like we do) - if you are coming to Kandalama for the food (like we did .... well, okay we came for the other stuff too!), then do check and double check to avoid getting terribly disappointed like we did. Regardless, great place!!
