We stayed here 2 nights and we were overall very happy to get some relaxation at the end of a touring holiday. We ate out each night and although there was plenty of choice at breakfast, a couple of the other hotels we stayed at did it better. Overall breakfast standards seem to be high in Sri Lanka! The beach in front of the hotel suffers from unpredictable currents, as it's where the river meets the sea and adjacent a headland. We were unable to swim in the sea due to red flags both days, our feeling was that it would mostly be like that. The hotel pool with bar is very nice. Check-in was quite delayed but overall service was good. I believe we were upgraded and got a slightly bigger room, it was a very good room on the first floor. In our opinion it's better to not have a room on the ground floor as there's less privacy from the gardens and pool area. Seems that most hotels do not make well cocktails that well, this one was the same, over generous on which ever liquor was in it. The massage treatment was worth it.
Dawn and I spent our honeymoon at this hotel from the 25th April - 7th May 2017. The hotel is exemplary in so many ways with brilliantly attentive and friendly staff, exquisite food and wonderful gardens and beach. Yes, the hotel does in some places need investment and refreshing but taken as a whole it offers incredible value for money and the perfect base from which to explore the many delights of Sri Lanka. From the moment we stepped through the front doors of the hotel to be greeted with such warmth and attention to the last day of our honeymoon when we were incredibly sad to leave the experience of staying at the Eden Resort & Spa was an absolute delight. Our room 414 was a good size and very well looked after by the very friendly young man who did housekeeping. We were on B&B but enjoyed the freedom to try out the different eateries. The quality of the buffet restaurant was very good indeed offering a great selection of food to suit all tastes with breakfast in particular being very good. We dined on three occasions in the fine dining restaurant Temptations and were looked after royally by Passad. The quality of the food was outstanding and again incredibly good value and I would highly recommend you try this at least once. We also took the opportunity to have a romantic meal in the Treehouse and this was truly memorable with delightful food and such attentive service. The hotel facilities including the swimming pool were well maintained and the garden staff brilliant at keeping everything neat and tidy. With the garden leading directly onto the beach you really couldn’t ask for a better location. We also tried the Spa and enjoyed three hours of bliss through a vigorous massage and ending with a relaxing rose petal bath again such a wonderful memory to cherish. Finally, I should mention the trips organised through Nico Reisen. Although not officially part of the hotel he is based just outside the main gates he organised some wonderful trips for us and the person who looked after us named Talick was a brilliant and safe driver and added so much to our knowledge of Sri Lanka through his excellent command of English. Thank you to all the staff at Eden for making our honeymoon such a wonderful and unforgettable experience and we hope to return to your hotel one day. Martyn & Dawn Williams
Stayed in the last weekend. Main attraction is the pool and the garden surrounded by the hotel building. Rooms were cozy but bathroom fittings needs to be fixed. (Sink stopper got stuck, bathtub water stopper didn't work, hair dryer stopped working, bathroom exhaust fan on ceiling didn't work). We were on full board basis but it was weired to know that they charge (Rs.240 per 750ml water bottle) for extra water bottles. (Only 2 x 500 ml complimentary bottles were there in the room). Buffet food was okay, but didn't have that much of verity.
This hotel is a gem to the area! Busy resort with full service f facilities! We stayed there on full board basis for one night. We never felt it was enough as every minute some thing was happening out side of the rooms! Food was nice and for the all three meals they did not repeat the same food manu. Spa staff was very professional and attentive. Receptionists were nice and pleasant. They were very concerned about their guests. I did not find any creepy looking staff as I have often met in other hotels unsafe! It was a good point! Just one negative point- under the bed it was full of dust! Housekeeping staff should check the dust level more frequently I guess! Night time fire flame entertainment even was brilliant. Also they had Vesak Poya day celebrations as well. That gives extra to the guests to get to know about what Vesak is about! Overall we were happy!
Stopped off at this hotel on the way back from Australia for a week and found it lovely. Restaurants very good, although we didn't do the buffet dinner. Wine a bit expensive but everything else really reasonable. Grounds well maintained and pool staff great. Visited the Spa and for a head to toe massage came in around £30... great value in beautiful surroundings. Will definitely be going back.
First time at Eden. Booked here as it looked great via the website and such. Overall stay was just OK, as too many small issues outweighed the good. Quick overview of the positives.....The room i had was amazing. large and spacious with a good view overlooking the pool and sea. Bathroom was nice as well and the bed was extremely comfortable. Pool bar was great, spent most days there. Beer was cold and service was friendly. Breakfast was good too daily. A nice variety and fresh. Ruwan was by far the best colleague there, took care of me and always friendly. The down side to staying at Eden on this trip..... 1. No rules at the pools about swim attire....men were wearing their boxers and underwear. Same with small children and diapers....no rules to enforce that or prevent kids from popping in the pool. 2. There are no umbrellas at all around the pool or garden area when you lay on a sun lounger. 3. The massage I got was horrible. The lady couldn't stand the whole time and kept moving my take while I laid on it so that she could sit and massage me. She went to fast and it was by no means relaxing. After words they gave me a form for feedback, but stood over my shoulder while i filled it out. 4. They have power outages throughout the day everyday, as this seems to be the norm. At no point did anyone make us aware of this before hand. I got stuck in the elevator on the 3rd day due to this. 5. I went out for dinners nightly away from the resort (I high suggest doing this). The first few nights the doorman helped arrange a tuk tuk for me. The last night there when I told him where i was going he told me just to walk to the restaurant but because i was alone, i asked for a Tuk Tuk to take me. He wouldn't assist in getting me one and i was forced to walk to the street to get one. 6. Dinner in Temptation was a let down. I got the pork dish which was over cooked and tough. They never replaced the drinks in the mini bar that I consumed. So once it was gone, there was no more. Most resorts replace daily. 7. The AC in the room never worked. I asked them the first 2 days to fix it, but it would never cool at night. By the 3rd night it was pointless to ask anymore. Wouldn't recommend it unless you are doing a one night stay maybe.
Returned to UK on 4 May after an enjoyable 10 day stay at this hotel. All the staff were friendly, professional and helpful, particularly Mahinda (Restaurant Captain) and Nishantha (Bar). The hotel was spotlessly clean and the food excellent, well presented and with a good variety. Our main disappointment was that the hotel did not appear to enforce the dress code at dinner and the restaurant reminded us of a cafe. The hotel manager spent some time with us discussinng our views. Our ground floor room was very spacious and overlooked both the swimming pool and the beach. We will consider this hotel for future visits.
Excellent, very very polite and very nice staff, all of them (starting from all Receptionists, Cashier, our Princess in blue dress, Front Office Manager Mr. Yohan Kudahetty, Residential Manager, Chief and the General Manager Mr. Eksath Wijeratne) are taking care about their guests and are so helpful. We were really happy in this great hotel and had great opportunity to celebrate one birthday during our stay with 2 beautiful cakes (thank you one more time) and thank you for really special feeling on that day-I felt like a queen. Thank you for everything. We spent really nice days in Eden. Thanks for welcome ceremony and farewell greetings from all your staff. I know that I'll be back; sooner or later. The cup with EDEN sign survived a long flight and is already on the table in the office right now in Zagreb. Wishing you all the best. Best regards from Croatia, Ivana
We visited eden resort for the day during a long weekend simply to get away from the noisy city. On our way we checked if a room was available and confirmed reservation. It took close to half an hour to check us in and finally we proceeded to our room in order to change and hit the beach immidiately. At the same time since we were not interested in joining the lunch buffet we wanted to order through room service and looked around for the in room dining menu. Unfortunately couldn't find any and we had to request for same. In comes a staff member and opens up a cupboard which was locked up and take out the menu card and states "we don't give the complimentary items such as tea, coffee for a day room reservation so we have locked them up and sorry we have even locked the menu card". After a dip in the sea we came back to our room to order our lunch through in house dining service. I ordered Pad Thai noodles which turned out ti be Maggie noodles with chicken and chilli sauce and my son ordered a club sandwich, once again looked so dry and stale...However the food overall was tasteless and once we finished we realised we forgot to ask for water. In any hotel you find complimentary water bottles but was I surprised, Eden has forgotten once again to leave complimentary water for a day reservation while they were busy locking up the tea, coffee, mini bar and the menu card. Anyway we decided this is our first and last visit to Eden resort as I feel they seriously need to get their act together. By the way we paid SLR 11,000 for our room only.
We booked 1 night in this resort just as a transit for a few hours as we had to leave for the airport at 2 am. We arrived at 7 PM for check in and yes, the hotel is big and looks nice but definitely has an old school look. It looked a bit haunted until we went to the restaurant area. The room was very nice HOWEVER, the biggest problem was the air conditioning. We reached the room and it was boiling, we were told to wait for the room to cool. We waited till about 8 pm, and then called the housekeeping, he changed the temperature to 10 degrees and said it will cool. We went down to get dinner and there was a strange smell all across, the kind when you don't put the air conditioning. We ordered the food and asked them to get it upstairs. We reached up, and it was still warm. We called the engineer who said the filters needed cleaning and it will take half an hour more. No change and we went to the reception. That's where it got terrible, firstly the AC wasn't working and then the manager was arrogant and egoistic. He did not agree that the AC wasn't working even though he was sweating himself sitting in the reception because the AC was off after 10 pm for common areas. I made a statement that if the temperature is below 25 degrees, I will sleep quietly. He came upstairs with a temperature gauge and got embarrassed when the temperature was showing 25 degrees right below the AC vent. The other rooms were equally bad. We were so disappointed because the least they could have done was provide a fan in the room, or give something complementary, but they were adamant and did not accept that they were at fault. Please don't go and stay there EVER. They are trying to save money by not providing basic facilities. And it's not that it is cheap, we paid $100 for that night.
