Red Roof Inn Springfield, IL - The State House

3.0 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

A pleasant modern hotel, takes its design cues from its 1961 beginnings, rooms and lobby are updated with Mid-Century Modern looks. Spacious suites. Great location. My small comPlaint is the worn mattress placed in a frame with no boxspring, not a great sleeping situation, just didn't fit with the rest of the experience. Also wifi was very weak.

Smooth check in. Comfortable large room. Coffee/tea maker, bottled water, hair dryer, toiletries, plenty of towels supplied. Would have been nice to have an in-room fridge. Central to all downtown historical sights. Free parking and complimentary cooked breakfast buffet an added bonus. Perfect overnight stay for our trip down from Chicago to view the eclipe the next morning.

State fair in town, my regular hotel was booked up. State house has rooms. That's about all I can say.

The outside of the building is nothing special but the rooms are great. Spacious, clean & from the look of it recently updated. The hotel is within walking distance of the capital building as well as the Lincoln sites.

I was only in town for a funeral but the hotel was awesome! Bed was great, breakfast was perfect and everyone there was helpful and pleasant! I would stay there again!

Nice hotel, free breakfast included, close to all historical attractions (walking distance), also close to a lot of the 'local' bars/rest.

Super clean and very comfortable hotel with a fantastic view of downtown Springfield.

The hotel looks from the outside like a 1960s hotel. Once inside the Ascend decorating continues the retro vibe, but with beautiful updated 1960 inspired decor. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was great, more than the cereal and bagel I was expecting. It is a great hotel at a great price.

Hotel staff very unhelpful in resolving problems. Put on long hold by staff taking reservations.Hotel management did not resolve booking problem.

We had a mid-week stay for Veterans Day 2015. The hotel is very conveniently located a block away from The Capitol building. We checked in easily. Rooms are a little small, but perfect for our 1-night stay. The hotel has a modern/mid-century vibe and feels like a boutique hotel. We didn't take advantage of the hotel parking and just parked on the street. The staff gave us great recommendations for restaurants. My 2 kids and I turned in early and were not interrupted during the night with other guests. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. I also liked the Bath & Body Works products they offered. Breakfast was really good with waffle makers for kids and standard eggs, bacon, sausage. The free breakfast was a real plus. We would definitely head back on a next trip to Springfield.

We normally do the Hilton, but decided to try the State House this year. I will be returning to he State House next year. It was convenient to the cars, restaurants and easy to find. We enjoyed our stay.

Other than the first person who checked us in and didn't even look up at us...the people at the hotel were very helpful and enjoyable. Room was smaller, but very clean and comfortable. I like that they give the option of just making beds instead of changing the sheets every night you're there. Go green! Loved that we could walk to all the sites from the hotel. We got through all the LIncoln sites/tours on one day without rushing, took Lincoln's neighborhood tour and really enjoyed the museum. The second day we weren't sure how we'd fill the whole day. The only thing left on our list was the Old State House. It just so happened that when touring it, we met General Grant. He was giving 3, 45 min. talks during the day. We went to the first one and the second... and the third...he fulfilled his character well with volumes of information and shared it in a way that someone who wasn't a civil war geek could easily understand. I highly recommend you look into the Living Programs as part of your visit. We were sad that Lincoln wasn't available any more this summer. It would be helpful if the Lincoln Center would have a listing of what was being offered & times for each day or the week.

The hotel was fine for what we needed, but it need an overhaul soon.

Staff very nice and helpful. Breakfast was good. Normal fare but was very fresh and hot . The beds were very comfortable. The best feature in my opinion is that my wife and I were able to walk to Lincoln's museum , his law offices, and his former home. The state capital is just a block away and offers good photo ops. Only down side of the stay is that the rooms were not sound insulated as well as we might have liked. But in reality, I'm not sure any amount of insulation would have prevented us from hearing the rants of a drunken neighbor. I would stay here again.

The hotel is within walking distance of all of the historic sites and the Amtrak station. The price is reasonable and breakfast and wifi are included.

Hotel was average and on the small side. Location was perfect.

Perfect hotel near all Lincoln attractions, most in walking distance. Close to downtown resturants that were excellent. Hotel had all the features we expected, and staff was friendly and helpful. On site bar should have hot or munchie snacks to enjoy with beverages. Rooms should have more clothes hangers. Would stay here again, and recomend to others. Loved the hotel decor too.

Staff helpful, professional. Rooms were clean and adequately supplied. Room acoustics were not acceptable as you could hear conversations from adjoining rooms.

Nice staff, willing to accomodate us with no problem. Would stay there again

It's been about 20 years since I was there and they have done a nice job of upgrading the lobby and rooms. The room is a bit on the small side, but well done. Good free breakfast, far above the budget breakfasts at many motels. Unbeatable location, near the capitol and downtown.
