We spent three nights here and were very happy with our choice. The location is excellent, right at the train station (platform 1 at the back door), and also convenient to local trams and buses. The city centre is a short walk away, or you can catch a tram. The free public transport ticket included with the reservation is great and we made use of it each day. Check-in was fast, friendly and efficient. We were fortunate to score an upgrade to an air conditioned room, which was good, as the trains can be heard when the windows are open. Everything was clean and very pleasant. The free Wi-Fi worked well for us. The only thing missing was an English language television channel as we had “no signal”. The German language channels worked fine. There was plenty to choose from at breakfast. All in all we had a very good stay.
I stayed in the InterCity Hotel Freiburg in mid-March for three days and found it to be very comfortable, clean, and welcoming. It's co-located with the main train and bus station as well, making travel to Basel, the Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg airport, and beyond very easy.
It is located just next the train station and also near the city center. By foot, you need only 5 minutes to be in the center where all restaurants, bars and universities are. We were warmly welcomed and the staff was friendly. The rooms are small but confortable and clean. However, you might be waked up early by the trains and the crowed noise. It's a good hotel, without surprise.
If you're unlucky to have a "regular" room there won't be any AC and you'll have to deal with a small noisy fan to freshen the air. The views are awful, it's either the train tracks or the druggies and homeless folks that hang around the station. And go to the breakfast early otherwise you'll be left with the crumbs. The only positive thing about this hotel is the free transport tickets during your stay. Otherwise the elevator (when it's working) is always crowded! Good for short stays but that's it!
The hotel was good and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful for most part of the stay. The breakfast is great and they have a lot of choice which is great. The wifi on the other hand is terrible (both the free and paying one) and I had to use my mobile phone's hotspot to be able to check my work e-mail and access my WhatsApp. On the other hand, the parking on site must be paid for - we had no problem with that - however you do not pay directly at the hotel reception, you must find the cashier at the parking lot. The cashier was closed and thus, instead of being able to get the hotel reduction, we had to pay up to €60.00 in parking which was a very high expense for us! The hotel did not provide assistance on this and kept telling us to simply go to the cashier! Overall a convenient hotel with a great location for a short visit. If you come with the car, be careful with the parking if you are on a tight schedule at the time of departure
Very well situated near the station (but sound proofed rooms). Huge breakfast buffet. The hotel offers a ticket to guests which enables free public transport within the city. We have stayed here before BUT this time, personnel changes and so, when we had booked until 12 noon, we thought we had the room till then. But no personnel had been in and moved some of out things. And at 11.15 45 minutes before check out ! Also in the lift going down a cleaner entered with a trolley load of dirty washing, we got to another floor she would not let the guest get in. And when we got to our floor we could not get out. She simply was blocking the exit and entrance. This cleaner is paid by us the guests.
Very pleasant stay for one night, check-in was nice and friendly and our room served us well. Double bed was comfortable and big enough for me and my wife(I’m 6feet 4 Inches tall) Shower had plenty of room unlike most european showers in hotels and the room was clean and well taken care of, not sure of the negative reviews but this is just a 3 star hotel and I didn’t expect it to be the Ritz. Parking is right underneath the Hotel and there is elevator that will take you up to check-in and the rooms, it was $12 euro for 24 hours and the parking area is in the corner underneath the hotel as soon as you drive down from the street its the first level you come to and you can see a door with the hotel sign on it. free internet and free tram pass was a nice perk!
While I am trying to rate based on what you pay and what you can expect based on what you pay I have to say our stay was great. We arrived and knowing that all Intercity Hotels are close to the main train station, we did not expect to be surrounded by lakes and forest but convenient located next to the train station. Fantastic when you arrive late and you have two kids with you. No need for a taxi or a long walk. You get out of the train and walk straight into the hotel. During your business days you don’t see much anyway from your room. It was located on a higher floor and I have to say, the view was fantastic. Something I wouldn’t have expected at all. The room was clean, everything you needed and in the morning the shower and everything worked the way how it should have been. Every time we got back in the afternoon, the rooms were made up and looked fresh and welcoming. We never had any Trouble with the noise from the trainstation or the bus station. The breakfast is like in all other Intercity hotels. So please don’t expect freshly squeezed juice and a huge variety of local sourced cold cuts from the butcher next door, but you find everything which brings you through the day. What I always experience is that if you treat the employees nicely and you try to understand them, you will get the smile and the extra attention which goes a long way. At the second day, they know who you are, that you drink coffee and that your kids will come later, so it works and worked here as well. So my compliments as well to the staff, who tried hard to cope with the volume of guests every morning impressively and tried hard to keep the buffet stocked. The distance to the city center is fantastic. Within 5 to 10 minutes you are in the heart of Freiburg or you are finding the right bus who brings you where you have to. The great thing with Intercity hotels is that your local public transportation is included and your room packet enough to use it. So why wouldn’t you? Sometimes main train stations and the area around can be a bit “dangerous” throughout the night, this one didn’t give us this feeling. Well, it isn’t the best one neither but it least we didn’t mind going out and in in the evening. We even found a playground in walking distance for our two kids. So all in all I have to say, it was a good stay, we enjoyed the hotel, the city itself and everything the surrounding has to offer. We would come back for sure.
Good location beside the station and near the city centre. The hotel is basic but clean and quite, there is not aircon facility. Not for tourists visiting the town but ideal for a short business trip.
Hotel was adequate for 1 night in Freiburg, close to the Station and a 5 minute walk into the centre. When we checked in we were given a free ticket to use on the Tram system however we did not use it. Rooms did nit have aircon and were a little stuffy but once the window was open were fine. Underground Carpark 50m away was 12 Euros overnight. Breakfast in the morning was fine.
