Lovely Hotel , in good order with nice staff. We parked in the Hotel car park behind the hotel and stayed for one night .The window did not open in our room but the air con was very effective. Good size room in good order. The staff were helpful and gave directions.
The hotel bar in The Earl Of Doncaster Hotel has to be the most opulent in Doncaster and is always a great place to enjoy a nice beer and chill out. The art deco interior is awesome, there is nothing you can fault about this bar, staff are really nice and make you feel so welcome,we had just been to The Salutation Pub and we dropped into here as I know from previous visits that the beer here is always served in perfect condition,we ordered some beers and just chilled out in this oasis of calm before heading to the racecourse . The beer was superb and at a good price and we really enjoyed our beer and time spent in here before we moved on. The Earl Of Doncaster Hotel is easy to find by walking down Bennetthorpe in the general direction of the racecourse. A great hotel bar and well worth checking out.
We stayed here overnight on my birthday weekend and had a fabulous time. Every member of staff was attentive and gave great customer service. We had an executive suite which was well appointed with lovely coffee bags and hot chocolate. We had pre-dinner drinks and a lovely meal in the well decorated art deco restaurant (good value grill night including a bottle of wine) before finishing off with some after dinner drinks to end the evening. Breakfast was well cooked with plenty of choice and again great customer service. As others have said there is ample parking at the rear of the premises. We were also taken to the ballroom to see how it was set out for a private function. I am sure it would be a great venue for a wedding too, The hotel is a short walk from the centre of Doncaster. Highly recommended.
A nice hotel with parking at the back. First impressions seemed funky/boutique hotel. Nice big room on top floor, step down into the bathroom that I forgot during the night and almost broke my neck. Wet room style bathroom that I like but I'm messy and get water everywhere so soak the place. Didn't know the area at all so ate at the hotel. Not exactly catering for a business travel budget of £20 a night for food. I had a pint and a burger and paid over £20, ouch! I don't mind paying that for great food, it was 'alright'. Room comfortable and I slept well. Breakfast not included. I went for a continental effort. Not great and not worth the price. Overall I feel the hotel takes your pants down for food and drink and not good value.
I think at one stage this was a fance hotel, but feels a bit tired now. I couldn't decide if this was an old tired hotel or a modern art deco hotel... Rooms are average and there is free wifi. Bed was comfortabe and staff friendly, so can't really complain
After a steady walk from the train station this was the perfect place to break for a pre meeting drink. Good, swift and polite service. Decent pint, reasonable price. Very busy as plenty of others had same idea but staff coped well. Recommended.
After discovering this outstanding 'Art Deco' style four star hotel on the internet, we decided a visit was simply a must to sample their afternoon tea, so we rang and booked a table. No doubt about it, the Earl of Doncaster was designed to impress and it does not fail to do so! It is decorated in an opulent Art Deco style throughout. The dining room is a delight to behold and you simply cannot but help continually look here and there, in fact everywhere you look, there is something else of beauty to look at. It is simply a visual delight! Perusing the menu, the customer has a choice of 5 or 6 versions of Afternoon Tea. The choices were as follows:- Cream Tea Children’s Afternoon Tea Classic Afternoon Tea Savoury Afternoon Tea Chock-A-Holic Afternoon Tea Gluten Free Afternoon Tea We opted for the Classic Afternoon Tea. The cake stand arrived with a selection of four different finger sandwiches, and one fruit scone(per person), one plain scone(per person), clotted cream, jam and a lovely selection of small cakes and desserts. The teapot, sugar bowl, cups and saucers also echoed the Art Deco theme nicely. We were slightly over faced with some of the cakes, so the waitress said that she would put the remaining desserts into a dainty little cake box for us to take home at the end of our visit. All in all, this was an excellent afternoon, and the only thing I could fault, and it was only a tiny fault, was the choice of background music. In surroundings like this, which is obviously 1920/1930's Deco style, one might expect music from that era, or some piano music or something more suitable and sympathetic to the overall surroundings, instead of just everyday pop music. But that little fault to one side, the Earl of Doncaster Hotel is most definitely well worth a visit. Atmosphere: 8/10 (Due to poor music choice) or this would have been 10/10! Surroundings: 10/10 Food: 8.5/10 Service: 8/10 Value: 9/10 Verdict: Well worth visiting! Lady Rose Bloomfield @DottyVintage1
Booked this to meet with pals in Doncaster. I moved from Doncaster way back when and remember this being a bit of a dive so you can imagine my surprise when I rocked up and it was lovely. The staff welcomed me and my little sausage dog and the room was beautiful. Would definitely go back. - walking distance from centre - park to walk dog - convenience store close by - perfect location if attending races
The hotel is very good. I have stayed there numerous times due to work. Rooms are clean and the staff is very helpful. Delightful, in fact. The only downsides are rather bad wi-fi and the hotel breakfast becomes a bit monotonous after a few days. Recommended.
Never been to Doncaster before and found this hotel on the internet as we were going to the racecourse for a model engineering show. The racecourse is a 10 mins walk away on flat ground and the town is only 20 mins walk in the opposite direction. Plenty of buses go in either direction and stop just outside the hotel. We found the car park easily enough (thanks to Sofie sending a map). Entrance via a small ramp straight into the hotel from car park which is great with luggage. It is hard to find a hotel that you can say every member of staff we came into contact with were the friendliest people you could ever want to meet. It was a real pleasure to stay there. The hotel is fabulous. Very art deco. We were taken to see the ballroom by Michael as we had read how beautiful it was - and it was. The bar and restaurant had been completed in similar style. Only downside (if any) was the bar only had very high chairs and tables and not everybody likes sitting high up and it would have been nice to see some ordinary tables and chairs. I think they would let you sit on the tables laid for dinner it you had asked as they seem to be happy to help you in any way they could. There were seats by the reception that you could sit at and have a drink. The bedroom was very large and a good size lift took us to the 3rd floor. Excellent bathroom with both shower and bath. Plenty of shower gel etc. Very clean. Very quiet also. We were in room 327 and never heard a thing. The food was very good. Help yourself breakfast apart from cooked which was made to order and very good it was and nice that you knew it had been freshly made. Had dinner there 2 nights and very good. Not a huge choice (a fixed price menu and also some grill items you could purchase) Next time we go to Doncaster we will be staying here again. Ring the hotel direct for a great price also as we had breakfast included in our room while other people who hadn't booked direct didn't. Excellent hotel, great friendly staff, good food.
