Myself, my owners and my brother Tom (the whippet) visit here frequently as it is our closest pub. We all enjoy the cosy country pub, service is always friendly and drinks are good. My owners say the food is good classic pub food and there is enough of a range so that they don't get bored. We have to sit in the bar area where there is hard wood floors for dogs, which is fine but I sometimes sneak on to the sofa instead... My owners say that they would appreciate more tables and chairs at a height for eating in this area though. Sometimes when it is busy we have to sit on low tables and they complain about their achey backs!
Stayed here for one night. Room was spacious and clean but tired and in need of some attention. Headboard was ripped, and the room smelt musty. Breakfast was ok, but just ok. Staff were helpful and courteous throughout our stay. Hotel is in a good location, and we would stay here again, as it is very reasonably priced.
Had Xmas dinner was fantastic the portion was just enough and the staff was excellent ,would recommended Xmas day dinner here been for last 5 years and this year was the best , I had veneson and wife had traditional Xmas dinner really really good
This hotel and restaurant very handily sited just off the m1. Has been taken over and much better staff these days. Pleasant old style interior with open fire. Good selection of food from snacks through to full dining menu. Ideal for a meet up and some food
Chose this hotel as we were visiting friends in the area. Room was a good size with a nice comfy bed, very clean. Did not eat in the restaurant, only had a drink in the bar which was a mixture of hotel guests and locals. Good breakfast choice in the morning.
This was our 3rd stay here, Rooms are clean Restaurant dining is good with a good menu choices the one thing that has stood out on every visit is the staff they are Friendly, helpful and nothing is to much trouble Will return
It's three years since we last visited and on this occasion ,unfortunately ,we weren't impressed. We were quickly shown to our seats and we ordered drinks and food from our waitress.Drinks arrived promptly and we waited for our chosen meals.Twenty minutes later I was told that my ordered meal was no longer available - sold out - Hubbie ordered scampi with garden peas.It arrived with mushy peas.My second meal choice ,lasagne lacked flavour. Disappointing.
Duncurin and spouse were visiting a friend who was having a special birthday and the Red Lion is just round the corner from his house. It’s a fairly typical format, with the accommodation linked to a pub with restaurant. It’s an easy place to find and has a good location with a generous car park and is thus popular. Although it’s popular, noise levels are at all times subdued and in particular the double-glazing means that the nearby busy dual-carriageway is not at all intrusive. The room was an ideal size and was comfortable. Hot drinks and a kettle was available in the room. It was also nicely furnished, warm despite the wintry weekend and although the bathroom was a little tired, the over-the-bath shower worked well and there were plenty of fluffy towels on hand. The lighting was a little anaemic and they could either do with brighter bulbs in the down-lighters or have more of them. We booked just for the one night and we both took an excellent breakfast the following morning which had lots of choice and was also excellent value for money as was the accommodation as a whole. Some years ago we chose a family holiday in Vancouver. Our girls were still quite young and we arrived at our hotel after being awake for almost 36 hours. The beds in both rooms at the Pan Pacific hotel were the most fabulous that we’ve ever encountered. I have to tell you, that the bed in our room, and I am told across the whole Red Lion establishment, was generous and almost as luxurious. It was high, wide and deep, supremely comfortable and made for a wonderful, restful night’s sleep. So many establishments squeeze in a bed almost as an afterthought and the guests appear for breakfast the following day having been uncomfortable all night and longing for their own bed at home. Not so at the Red Lion where one wakes bright and perky; ready for one’s breakfast and the day to come. So, with excellent value and an excellent bed, five worthy stars. Many thanks.
