We were a party of 11 celebrating one of our friends land mark birthday, liked the place have had meals here before over a long time. The service from the young staff was very good how ever I made the mistake of ordering the stake and ale pie! when delivered to me at the table it looked the part a hand made small pie with the usual accompaniment of chips veg and small jug of gravy. I wish I had taken my hammer and chisel, the pastry was so hard that when a tried to cut into the crust on top would not cut open and the sides of the pie buckled out! finally revealing a black interior!! The meat was stringy and I suspected the pie had had some previous outings, left nearly all of it and called for a take away on our way home. No one in our party said how good the food was so I expect it was disappointing for them also. Didn't complain at the time as this was a treat and paid for by our friends.
We always stay whenever we are visiting our son. It is always friendly, warm, inviting and very clean. The rooms are really nice and have all been recently refurbished. With the wonderful full English this hotel is definitely worth a visit.
Friendly, attentive staff. Good value. A busy, popular pub, great location. Food very good, well cooked and freshly made to order. Staff, at times , run off their feet but helpful and hardworking at all times. Overall, a great short stay with friends.
We had a weekend break. Room comfortable with extra large bed😆 Very friendly, helpful hard working staff rushed off their feet at busy times. Popular pub with function room (does not impact on the residential rooms) Food good. Will come back.
When advertising a Wagu burger with kimchi (for the chefs benefit - a South Korean fermented spicy cabbage speciality), please don’t fob people off with a rather unpleasant salsa substitute on the basis people won’t know the difference - apart from that - nice place
Stayed here for one night and was pleasantly surprised. The food was fabulous, we had three courses each. Fillet steak was delicious and very cheaply priced. This must be a popular place as it was fairly packed by 6.30. The bar staff never stopped, the lady with the glasses was a credit to the place, polite, professional and constant smile on her face. equally the young lad serving the food was an absolute star. Lovely room, nice and clean with a very comfy bed. Reception staff was also very welcoming and polite. Note to the management. Your staff are a credit to you !! Keep up the great work and we look forward to our next visit
My partner took me on a surprise weekend to Sheffield and he booked us in to the Red Lion Hotel. It took 10 minutes for the lady to turn up to the desk to check us in but she was extremely polite which recovered that well. When we got to our room, it was spacious and very clean. The bed was comfy too. The breakfast was exceptional and the waitress was lovely and couldn't fault her one bit. Nice quiet place on its own. I would definitely recommend to others.
myself and my partner recently attended a friends wedding here and also stayed overnight. The reception was good the bars are well manned and queues are kept to a minimum. The room where the reception was held was small but it was OK as the numbers were moderate.the in house Dj was excellent and requests were honored very quickly.
Went for afternoon meal, two of us. No waiting, straight to a table. Ordered Steak, Chips, Peas and tomato off the smaller menu available to to 5pm. Very tasty steak and good value at £6.99. Staff friendly and polite. Would recommend.
2 night stay last Friday/Saturday. Bit of confusion on check in as thought I had already prepaid but turns out just reserved booking(not very clear). Room was ok but no real ventilation room was muggy.Found tea and kettle in the Cupboard is that a usual place? also had no tray to put spoon on or teabag when used, I know only a small point but these little things add up. Staff were all polite and attentive form reception to the bar and restaurant staff. Breakfast was good again staff were 10/10. Would stay here again if needed to.
