Stayed here for a business trip. My room was spacious and felt modern. I went to the restaurant on the evening and had the beef bourguignon pie, was nice but not much meat I thought. The crème brulee was delicious. The breakfast on the morning provided had a great selection of hot and cold options. I would stay here again if I needed to be in the area.
Didn’t think I would get to write this review, we had made a booking quite a few months earlier for a family and double room, B & B. We had a phone call two days before we traveled saying due to functions in the hotel, our rooms would be so noisy they advised we should cancel. Much to our dismay we could find no alternatives and thought we would have to travel without staying over, and no spa facilities for the children. At the 11th hour we received a call from manager Rachel Waller offering complimentary rooms B & B for all the disappointments. Sadly we did not get a family room, but the welcome gesture saved us much traveling. The rooms were clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was great, Sarah even providing “Eggy Bread” for one of our granddaughters, which made both her days. We spent many enjoyable hours in the pool too. The only niggle was evening meals, could you do a bar menu, not a fine dining menu ? £14 for a burger, £3-75 for a bowl of chips, think about the revenue you miss out on with families going for takeaways! Many Thanks, the kind act at the last minute means we will return !
I booked a last minute 2 night stay as we had to attend something in Barnsley and it seemed pretty close. Good location for Meadowhall/Sheffield/Rotherham and Barnsley. Check in staff member was great and very helpful. Room needed a few minor touch ups, the blood mark on wall near toilet was not nice (in fact I tried to clean with a baby wipe as it was a concern) some paint peeling in shower ceiling and socket covers loose. Bed was super comfy. View was non existent but it is situated on a main A road. We went to the pool on the first night and tried for 10 minutes to find someone to advise if there were towels available and if we could get a token for locker but no one around, in the end we put our belongings in open lockers and took valuables pool side when we eventually saw two members of staff who I asked for a towel. First night- Great nights sleep Second night- lots and lots of hotel noise from function Breakfast first morning was great, but poor on second day- I even heard staff complaining about kitchen staff and the time it was taking to get food out. It was an inconsistent stay, which could of been better.
I stay here regularly and as a whole it’s a great hotel. Rooms are always clean and functional. Staff are as a whole really friendly and efficient. There are a couple of regulars who aren’t the best (ie constantly get food/drink orders wrong, or forget to bring tea at breakfast even when you ask for it 2-3 times!). But generally most of the other staff are fabulous. Restaurant revamped about a year ago. Food is ok... but it really is ridiculously priced for what it is. For a starter, a steak and a dessert with a couple of beers your looking at over £40 per person which when the food is only ok is extortionate. That said, this is a problem across virtually ALL holiday inns from my experience. They know they’ve got you there so they charge more for average food. Reality is I could choose to eat elsewhere - just often too tired after longs days of work and travel.
The room is clean and well appointed. The staff I spoke to were friendly and efficient. The parking is handy and the room is dark and peaceful (on the 2nd floor.) The shower is nice and although there is only one bottle in the shower it smells nice.
Well located with friendly and accommodating staff so that’s why I’m a regular visitor whilst on business. Reception and bar/restaurant was given a much needed refurbishment last year although the rooms could do with similar attention they’re comfortable, roomy and clean (beds a bit hard). Gym facilities very good (drains were a emitting a powerful odour & swimming pool could do with a good clean). But hey I like it here so thanks to the staff for their service & nice breakfast.
just stayed 3 nights perfect base the reception staff were very friendly on arrival parking plentiful. eat in the restaurant first night lovely food had the breakfast buffet all 3 mornings plenty of choice and friendly staff. Used the leisure facilities all good bedroom was all good big and comfortable bed great shower the only negative was no draws for your small's.
Stopped on my way to Hull, very friendly welcome and I was given an upgrade as a spire elite member to a massive room, with 2 double beds and a sitting room area, this lovely sized room was a bit gloomy and is crying out for a nice central light to brighten it up, I mentioned this to the staff and they agreed it would enhance the room massively. This front facing room was reasonably quiet although some road noice could be heard. The complimentary water, snacks, and bathrobe added to the experience. For dinner I enjoyed a nice bowl of tasty mushroom soup followed by a piece of fish on a risotto, which was tasty enough although the fish was a little bland. This was served in the modern and nice looking bar area, again the the bar staff were particularly helpful and friendly. It is great to see such an extensive specials menu, and I wish more Holiday inns followed this enterprising approach, as a regular user you do get a bit bored of the same menus everywhere you go, so you end up eating outside the hotel. After a decent nights sleep I enjoyed the good selection of hot and cold breakfast items in the nice modern restaurant in the morning, check out was quick and easy, so overall a very positive experience and I will visit again when I am up in Hull later this year. Free WiFi throughout
fantastic room. great facilities & staff. stayed for a weekend as son was at a boxing tournament. staff were very helpful. our room was superb. a corporate suite, which we never asked for. so was a big bonus. great pool & facilities.
Stayed for a couple of nights to visit family in the area. Basic hotel with no frills. Location is pretty good - close to Meadowhall, Sheffield train station etc. just a shame there doesn't seem to be a newsagents close by. We were on the third floor and their was a lot of noise coming the corridor from other guests both nights. The rooms aren't very well insulated and noise carries through very easily. The second night I was woken up twice to teenagers banging very loudly on doors, this went on for quite a while and well up to midnight (I actually stuck my head out of the room and had to ask them to keep it down). No in-room safe, no mini bar / fridge, no complimentary slippers in room (which is a shame bc the carpet in our room had a big stain on it that you could only see when the green light in the bathroom shone on it), no bathrobe, very basic toiletries in the bathroom (so take some shampoo / conditioner / shower gel etc.), no complimentary shower cap...the little things that make a hotel stay stand out a little more were missing. Room showing signs of wear and tear and was quite dark. Breakfast was good with a large selection of hot and cold food. For the price and the service (the ladies on reception were very helpful and friendly) I would stay again.
