Nice bed and I like the policy of giving you a firm and a soft pillow as standard. Good shower and 'night light' in bathroom is a welcome touch. However - no security chain/bar on bedroom door - advised on arrival to enter car reg in gizmo on counter, did so but, on going back out saw someone without luggage put theirs in so checked if I needed to do this every time I entered car park. Was advised I did which, given parking is run by a 3rd party who charge £100 for non entered cars, I should have been told on check in. Also not sure why it's necessary as the gizmo asks how many nights you're stopping! - leaflet in room said room service available 24/7 (and one of rooms on our floor had left a room service tray outside so it was somewhere) but row of buttons on phone in my room, including for room service and front desk, had been removed from phone so not sure how you're supposed to order. Tried buttons for restaurant and porters but neither answered, 11.30 pm hardly the middle of the night - went down to see if could order in person - no one on reception, 1 person serving in bar, took 15 minutes to make 2 drinks for the customer at the bar then had a problem when guy tried to charge it to his room and tried to ring a colleague but was having as much joy as I did in getting someone to answer so I gave up and went to bed. Won't be stopping again
Check in was ok. Our room was clean with a nice size bed which was comfy, lots of pillows. Bathroom was ok the shower was a bit soft with not much water flow but plenty of hot water. Tea and coffee making, TV, iron, and a free to use safe. We had an evening meal which was nice enough as was the breakfast. Staff we met were down to earth and helpful. Our room was over looking the front car park near the main entrance which was been used as a smoking area, the smell of smoke went into our room which I did report during checkout.We would stay again but wouldn't bother with any food.
Stayed sunday 21/1 as a last minute thing because of boiler breakdown at home. We had a executive suite on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate. Room was enormous and had everything we could need (iron, board, hairdryer etc). Had a lovely sleep. Breakfast was fantastic! Lovely food and real mushrooms! Not tinned. The evening meal in the restaurant was ok. Small portions, maybe because of the inclusive deal we were on? Staff all very friendly, but a special mention for a red haired chap who served in the restaurant and made up our sofa bed for the little one. He was very helpful and also chatted with my 4 yr old daughter. Would happily return.
I normally stay once a week in the centre of Sheffield but wanted to try this hotel mainly because of the swimming pool. All good really apart from totally soaked carpet outside bathroom in room 17. Room smelt so damp. Air con blasting away at 27 degrees when entered room so clearly someone in the hotel knew and was trying to cover up. Was moved to top floor suite on 2nd night which was much appreciated (what a contrast!). Pool, steam room and sauna great. Power cut first morning meant no hot food or drinks. No real explanation from anyone but looked like everyone a bit confused and trying to sort it out. Breakfast 2nd morning very nice. Looking at other reviews there seems to be water problem leaking in a few rooms and repetitive issues that need sorting. Taking some rooms off line looks like the solution whilst the problems are solved rather than selling rooms that are unfit for use and hoping people either don't complain or are one off visitors to Sheffield. It's a management decision. As hotels in the centre push up,their prices this could be a fantastic place to stay at a reasonable price.
I stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel has been refurbished, the bathroom is a lot better than it used to be. The windows however still haven't been replaced, appear to be single glazed, so let in all the noise and don't insulate against the cold. When I returned from dinner on my 2nd night, I noticed water was dripping from my bathroom light. My room phone was missing all the buttons for reception etc. (buttons removed from phone leaving a hole in the case where it should be), so I ended up running down to reception. When staff investigated the leak, it was due to another guest showering above my room, and the sealant having gone on their shower, i.e. avoidable by the hotel performing maintenance on their rooms. I was told the guest was not planning to shower again, and to leave the light off for a while. I asked to swap rooms, which the hotel organised quickly to their credit. This morning, as I was getting ready, there was a hotel wide power cut, so no shower as no water came out. I got ready by the torchlight of my mobile, and washed with some wet wipes. The power cut may not have been the hotel's fault, but hardly a great stay. I would have asked for at least a partial refund on checking out (room had been paid for in advance), but as the power outage meant no computers in reception, reception couldn't process anything.
This wasn’t a nice place to stay. It’s run down with fixtures and fittings warn and has a grubby feel. I had a room on the third floor, so maybe this wasn’t representative of the place as a whole, but it was old and didn’t feel particularly clean. The reception area wasn’t welcoming, although I have no complaints about the staff. I also used the gym, which unfortunately has the same feel, with chipped, grubby and warn out equipment.
I had to travel to Rotherham for a meeting on the industrial estate opposite the Holiday Inn. My wife decided to accept my offer to accompany me just for the overnight stay. The stay exceeded all expectation. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The catering staff were 'on the ball'. The food was beautifully prepared and delicious ( we had the hake) and there was plenty of choice at breakfast. Our room was clean and comfortable and there is plenty of car parking spaces in generous bays. I can understand why this hotel is used for corporate events ....it is justly deserved. Whilst I was at the meeting the hotel staff looked after my wife as we had vacated our room early. Now the downside....the wife took a walk across the road to visit places like Dunelm located on the industrial estate...need I say more but it actually enhanced her stay to the detriment of my credit card limit. My partner attended a works do/meal here with a disco after the meal. He had a 3 course meal and had drinks from the free bar that was being supplied and had a dance with everyone at the disco too. As I was the one who was picking him up when he got in the car, he was severely ill and actually ended up vomiting twice on the way home and passing out. (Not from being too intoxicated may I add) He only drank Stella that night and not much and even if he had he likes Stella as his alcoholic beverage and is used to the taste. He isn’t allergic to anything such as foods and that night said something was slightly off and he fell extremely poorly the following two/three days and had to be off work because of it. We questioned if it had anything to do with the drinks been supplied as nobody else was ill from the food and two other people from the alcohol. He was in serious pain with his stomach and bones were aching constantly and he was extremely lethargic and sleepy. I have heard stories before about places supplying free bars using cheap alcohol to save them cost and cause people getting drunk quicker/easier. Now I’m not throwing allegations out there but these points need to be raised as he was severely poorly and it caused a lot of stress and upset amongst family and loved ones.
Just been for a works Christmas party, and must congratulate holiday inn on the lovely food that was served to us, from starter, main and then dessert, it was delicious, I did leave some of the dessert but for the only reason that I was full, Top marks 👍🏻👍🏻I would certainly go there again very enjoyable
Don’t know if there is some cost cutting going on but one of the best features of the hotel is the staff. Reception as always were good but breakfast service has been changed. While the food was good there is no interaction with the staff other than providing a room number. Used to have staff bringing coffee to the table now it’s self service. Your staff made this hotel one of the best to stay at when we visit Sheffield, you are not using that resource. Also awoken with water coming through the bathroom ceiling and having to move rooms at 8 in the morning to another room on the same floor that smelt musty and had a damp carpet near the bathroom door so possibly a regular issue?
