Golfito is bit of an experience all by itself, bit of rough and tumble town, looks like the old west. Hotel Roland stands out as a rather beautiful hotel with wonderful attention to detail. Unfortunately the quality takes a nosedive in the dining experience. Had a difficult time trying to enjoy most of the food ordered. An experienced chef would be a huge improvement.
This was my last major stop on a 2 week business trip in Costa Rica. The rooms were adequate, though a little dark. One more lamp or ceiling fixture would have been great. They have a small conference room that can accommodate ~60 people, depending on the seating arrangement. They also have the capacity to cater lunches should you need it. The pool/ pool bar were clean and offered standard fare. The bar happy hour is only for the local beers.
I loved this place, it's got a lot of character, beautiful extra touches in the construction. High wood beamed ceilings in the lobby, nice rooms, a gorgeous pool and restaurant/bar area. The food at the restaurant was excellent. We were only in Golfito a night, but had a breakfast, lunch and dinner there. Enjoyed cocktails at the bar area. The staff there are very customer service oriented and helpful. The breakfast was very generous, we had lovely fresh fruit, yogurt with granola, a full plate of scrambled eggs, sausage, rice and beans. The room we were in was dark, but in a good way, you're in a tropical area, and the dark plantation shutters along with the framed tropical style artwork was appropriate. This a a large lovely property, I would not have expected it in Golfito, but I highly recommend if you find yourself in Golfito!
Loved the place especially the bar restaurant area, don't remember much about the food but I had no complaints. The bar and restaurant area have stained glass and beautiful wood work.I was really impressed.
We stayed in some great places in Costa Rica, this was not one of them. We where pretty happy to be leaving. Breakfast was borderline inedible. We had to go out for a second breakfast. The hotel is really DARK. The design is very early colonial that was not fitting for the location. Much of it was underground, which is not fitting for the location. Low ceilings, dampness. The WIFI was not consistent. Power washing the umbrellas in the middle of the pool area with a gas powered power washer. Given the humidity in this area I would expect that this is a regular cleaning. This was very disturbing, making so we could not enjoy the pool area for the fumes and noise. They could have taken each one around the back and been out of sight and sound. Would not recommend staying here. T
My wife and I decided to take a day trip to see another part of the country. Mid afternoon we walked in to Casa Roland without a reservation. We had a small dog and they were more than welcoming. We went to the pool area and each room has it's own designated umbrella, table and lounge chairs. A nice touch so you don't have to go looking for a spot, chairs etc. We later ate in the restaurant and the food was very good and plentiful. The whole place was friendly and helpful. In a town like Golfito, this is a nice oasis.
We were there for a couple of days. We found the room dark. We also noticed there was a mildew smell that seemed to linger most of the time we were there, although we kept the air con running whether we were in the room or not. The pool was great and until the last day was clean. We loved the area not sure if we would go back to this hotel
Me and my family spend 2 nights there, the rooms were very clean and also were the bathrooms. At night it's quit so you can have good sleep. The room includes A/C, a TV and a safe, also the beds are very comfortable. For a hot weather the hotel includes a big pool, nearby there is a locker room and a sauna. If you feel hungry or need a drink there is a bar and restaurant near the pool. The food is really yummy and the employers are really hardworking, nice and caring. We had a really nice stay and I'm glad that we went there.
It was nice experience. Staff is very friendly and helpful after first day bad experience with restaurant they recommended to us nice places. They also have nice pool with bar and restaurant. Rooms have very quiet air conditioners. I will come back to this hotel.
Recently spent two nights here while shopping in Golfito. Nice restaurant and pool area. Also had game room. The service was very good. Decent breakfast buffet was served daily. They had a nice selection of artwork throughout the hotel. We would stay here again.
