It's not an hotel, but a bloc of apartments put to rent. You will not have anyone to receive you, but the instructions provided by email are enough to get inside. The place is spacious, clean and close to the road and attractions. The furniture is new and the linens are new and clean.
Stayed in golden circle apartment for one night, so as to stayed near the attractions for our tour around golden circle the following day. It is located ~30mins to geyser/Gulfoss, ~30mins to thingvellir national park (another direction), and ~20mins to kerid crater. The apartment is big and clean, with a fully equipped kitchen. Consider the very expensive restaurants if we dine outside, we bought groceries on our way from Reykjavik and made a simple dinner with the pots and pans available. There is a supermarket (Samkaup strax) nearby the apartment, which closed at 9pm (weekdays) and earlier on weekends (around 6pm). The room was quiet despite raining during the night and bed was so comfortable that we had a hard time waking up the next morning. Free WIFI was fast too. We got a ground floor apartment which allow us to catch a glimpse of the lake nearby. There is no reception but the management will provide you with the location (house 1, 2 or 3), unit number and password to the keys ~2 days prior to your arrival. Golden circle apartments is also located along the same street as Laugarvatan Fontana, where you can go for natural hot spring spa, set amid mountain and lake. I would highly recommend this accommodation for those who are touring the golden circle.
We visited Iceland in August and stayed at the Golden Circle apartments the last two nights of our stay in a family apartment on the ground floor. We throughly enjoyed our stay, the apartments were very well equipped, clean and nicely furnished. Our two boys loved the bunk beds in the living room! Once at the apartments, everything is conveniently located, some of the more popular tourist attractions are an easy drive away for day trips, there is a grocery store nearby and we were able to stock up for breakfasts and snacks. (A huge thank you to the cashier at the grocery store who went through all the different kinds of Icelandic candy for my son to take home for souvenirs!) There is the Fontana Spa next door and you get a discount, which is an added bonus and a great way to finish a day of sightseeing. The apartments are also within walking distance to Linden, a restaurant that comes highly recommended. (we went to the bistro area, not the more formal restaurant, it was good but underwhelming considering some of the rave reviews). Our best dinner was our last night across the street from the apartments at the Héraðsskólinn Boutique Hostel, delicious food and great service! We were also very impressed with the management, they contacted us before arrival with check in instructions and some travel tips. In our rush to leave for the airport on our last day my son left behind his retainer and his toiletry bag, when we landed and realized we had left it behind, they arranged to have it mailed back at no charge, saving us a trip to the orthodontist. (We have stayed at high-end chain hotels in North America that won't make that extra effort to return items!) I would highly recommend the Golden Circle apartments to anyone travelling in the area; a self-catering option, convenient location, great restaurant across the street and management that goes the extra mile!
Stayed for 3 nights, good base for touring the Golden Circle, Pingvellir Park and the Southern Coast. Walking distance to Laugarvatn Fontana Spa. Spacious and comfortable for family of four. Adequately equipped kitchen for preparing simple meals. Would definitely stay there again.
These apartments were great. Free wifi and great views of the lake. Within walking distance of a spa and great restaurants. The apartment was spotless and it was a very pleasant evening spent for my family.
We stayed two nights at one of those apartments. We got a ground floor apartment in the building at the bottom of the hill, but we could still enjoy a glimpse of the lake. If you get one apartment that is more elevated, the view will definitely be great. The apartment was clean, spacious and with all necessary appliances: toaster, water boiler, coffee maker, microwave in the kitchen. The bathroom is a bit small, but it has a hair dryer. The living room is very spacious. One bedroom had 3 single beds, the smaller bedroom had a 2-story bed, a bit small. All furniture is Ikea or similar, but is very convenient. You get a discount for the Fontana spa. Smoking not permitted in the apartment, and you cannot wear shoes inside. That is good for cleanliness.
We stayed here four nights as a base for touring SW Iceland. It's a fairly bleak and exposed location (but then so is much of the area!) but very convenient. It is mid way between Golden Circle must sees at Pingvallir and Gullfoss/Geysir, we did an easy day trip to the Westmann Islands (which was fantastic) and pottered around for a day. Nearby is a spa (you get a small discount there as guests) a supermarket (we self catered which was convenient and cost effective) and petrol. There are a couple of local restaurants, one high end (Lindin), one not (in the green roofed hostel opposite). The accommodation was clean comfortable and spacious. We'd go back. There are views across the Lake (better from top floor of the front building) although you can't see a huge amount the other side when it's cloudy. We saw Hekla (Volcano) only once! Furnishings are good and comfortable. The apartment didn't have enough crockery or cutlery but we called reception and they gave us enough to get by, they could do better on that, supply better stuff and more of it. Parking is close and free. Anyway overall great place to stay.
We arrived from the airport late at night and the water was off, we couldn't have a shower or even drink from the tap! The shop nearby was closed as well. Called the phone given, no answer.. sent an email....nothing at all! Because no water was getting supplied into to flat, the toilet had some faeces floating around and smells really bad! I saw the builder next day and he said that nobody should stay there because they were doing some refurbishment on the flats and he will request to the management to move us to another block.... I called management many times and sent emails never had a reply! Awful service!
Very spacious for 2 people. Clean and comfortable. It was a short walk to Fontana Spa - it was winter and we walked there in slippers! As other reviewers mentioned, the kitchen was bare of condiments but had all other equipment required. I booked through Booking.com and I did not receive a welcome email with instructions (unless I did not read my confirmation email carefully). So I had to call the number provided upon reaching the place (lucky I bought an Iceland SIM card) and I was given instructions to my key code and room number - it was simple and fuss-free. The wifi was non-existent. When I called, the apartment manager was unapologetic and just said it must be down then. Only when I asked if it will be fixed, he said he can only get the guys to come down tomorrow (but I was leaving the next morning). Great for a one night stay on the Golden Circle.
Stayed 2 nights here with the intention of visiting the Golden Circle - makes it a good location. Place is spacious with kitchen, dining and lounge and the bedroom. Wifi worked well. Check in was easy - just put the code into the lock and get the key out!
