This 500-year-old hotel is an impressive building overlooking the central square of Ceske Budejovice (best location in town). You are awed as soon as you enter the hotel and feel the classic-style ambience. The room was huge, comfortable, with important amenities that other hotels don't offer. Despite the cold weather, it was very warm thanks to the autonomous central heating. The bathroom was large and comfortable as well. The bed was very good and offered you good sleep quality. Breakfast was great, with a changing variety of products, all fresh and good quality (we stayed for 5 days and didn't get bored of the breakfast), in a splendid room that overlooked the central square. Overall the hotel offered a magnificent experience and we really enjoyed our stay; I recommend it without hesitation.
Our one-night stay nearly stayed badly (our fault) - my wife and I had got the date of our reservation wrong. However, the helpful and efficient receptionist soon sorted things out for us, and we obtained a room in a very short time. And a fine room it was - spacious, spotlessly clean and overlooking the fine square. Our only problem with the ground-floor restaurant we went to for dinner was making a choice from the many tempting dishes on the comprehensive and reasonably-priced menu. Many of the dishes featured meat from the hotel's own organic farm. The buffet breakfast in the first-floor restaurant, again with a view over the square was good, a range of cooked foods, cold meats and cheeses, cereals, pastries and fruit. The bill when we left wass very reasonable indeed. A delightful stay - just not long enough. The crucial test - Would we stay there again? A resounding YES.
Well restored, the rooms are large, well-appointed and very comfortable. In addition to a king size bed our room had a comfortable third bed in a little alcove, large desk, couch and coffee table, mini-fridge, lots of space, view of the gorgeous square, and large bathroom. Everything one could want. Breakfast was nice with adequate choices. Helpful service. It was exciting to drive the car onto an elevator and be taken up to the roof parking lot. Extra charge but the car was definitely safe.
This Grand Hotel has been standing here since 1533! Its HUGE! The only downside is the paid parking...however parking on the square is cheaper...and youre on the main square directly! Lovely clean and large rooms! Wonderful breakfast as well and the price was excellent! By far not the most expensive in the region and by far way above many others! Thoughtful bottle of water on the room for free. Very well equipped rooms as well. Very nice!
When we travel my benchmark of a clean hotel is the bathroom. The daily housekeeping at this grand Hotel is spectacular. The view from our window is of the plaza with fountain and it could not be anymore enjoyable!
Stayed here for 1 night recently. Check in was easy, we were a few hours early, but they were more than happy to keep our luggage for us until 2pm. Set on the town square, it is easy to get around. Room was comfortable and clean. Bathroom was spotless. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Would stay again for sure.
I have stayed in this hotel previously on more than one occasion, and have always been very pleased with the quality of the room and the service. In addition, there are two very nice restaurants on the premises. Breakfast is included, and consists of a variety of hot and cold items, breads, fresh fruit and vegetables. I always stay in the design suites. The rooms are very comfortable and have a spectacular view of the square. The service is excellent. Everyone on staff who I encountered were very prompt and polite. I really enjoy staying in this hotel, and would highly recommend it.
When we checked into room, it reeked of bleach. In the middle of the night, upon returning to bed after using the bathroom, I spotted a brown speck on the bedsheet. When we turned over the bedlinen, we spotted and killed about 20 bed bugs. I thought I was not bitten but after returning to my home country a few days later, I found rashes on the back of my neck, arms, legs and thighs. I needed an injection, oral medicine, cream and may need a blood test. I did not ask for a change of rooms as it was 1 am but we packed our bags and put them as far away from the bed as possible. The Management said they would investigate but nothing more was heard from them
We were surprised at how old this hotel and the town square were. We had a large room overlooking the square. There was small living area besides the bed. The bathroom was large. Breakfast was limited and not as nice as other hotels we've stayed. There was a family with a number of children who seemed to be everywhere we were. The children ran wild at breakfast and at dinner in the restaurant. The family did not control them and neither did staff. Very glad to get away from them. The staff was nice and we did enjoy our stay overall. Had some great food and beer!
I have booked my room two weeks in advance. I have arrived to the hotel, and the lady at the reception told me, that the manager of the hotel decided to give my room to somebody else. And they don't have any other free room, despite of my booking confirmation. I had to go to another Hotel. So try to avoid this Hotel, if you don't want to have such a surprise.
