Forget this town,This city has no tourist interest and all is old !!!! All parking spaces are subject to charges.... tThe residence is in need of some slight renovations ( no TV and no dishwasher). Staff was friendly
Stayed here for a week with my family and it's basically cheap and (not so) cheerful! The only redeeming factor in the customer service is Luca who seems to care about customer satisfaction. The apartment was very basic and not so clean when we went in, you also have to make up all the beds yourself on arrival, but we didn't complain. Just gave it a once over, made up all the beds and then started our week of relaxation. The dishwasher was reported as faulty on Monday, a replacement arrived on Thursday, 2 days before we were leaving, small gripe, but again we didn't make any formal complaint, just checked in for a update when passing reception, so they didn't forget. The biggest disappointment came when checking out. You have to arrange a specific time for the staff to come visit the apartment, check the inventory and cleanliness. It is explained in the check in information, but it really doesn't pay dividends to become anal with a customer who is doing their utmost to pack for their journey home and clean the apartment at the same time. I swept and mopped the whole apartment the night before leaving, yet I was accused of not doing so! Wouldn't it benefit you to just employ a cleaner? So you don't end up infuriating customers at check out? I was extremely worried about missing my ferry after going back and cleaning the areas in question. Yet they still took my full deposit of €101!!!! Appalling customer service!!!
I stayed here for a week with friends and although I believe the residence is in need of some slight renovations (hence the three out of five stars) the staff are all extremely helpful and lovely. They are always ready to help with a smile on their face! I would recommend it to families with small children and nature fans.
We used our Nectar points to get this apartment, but were a little nervous about it there were only a few reviews in English and some of them were not entirely complimentary. We needn't have worried. The staff may have improved because we found all the staff friendly and helpful and it was comforting to have some good English speakers so that at least once a day I didn't have to struggle with my appalling French. In terms of facilities, the apartment was immaculate when we arrived. Not clear on Expedia's details is that you will pay for EVERYTHING above what you've paid for the room - bedding and linen, TV remote etc. but also you can choose to pay for them to clean the apartment after you've checked out. With a checkout time of 10am, we were unsure if this would be possible, but discovered that the 10am checkout time is exceedingly flexible - you make an appointment for them to inspect 24 hours before checkout, but as long as you've done a reasonable job of cleaning, it is mostly to make sure you haven't left anything behind. The hotel could quite reasonably charge a nominal fee for a cleaning kit so that travellers aren't burdened by either having to bring that stuff with them, transporting it home after buying it in the local Carrefour Contact, or the waste of throwing it out half used. Other reviews said there were no curtains in ground floor apartments. We were on the 2nd floor and there were curtains, but it looked to us that all the ground floor apartments had euroshutters, so curtains were unnecessary. We supplied our own bed linen, pillows and towels and I'm glad we did as the pillows were French style - lovely, but square and we had rectangular pillow cases which wouldn't have fitted the supplied pillows. For another time, I would also pack a bath mat as the bathroom floor was easy to get wet. Water pressure was amazing, but the shower was at half height. Therefore the floor and basin got sprayed anytime anyone had a shower. Everything you need in a holiday apartment kitchen was supplied, except a kettle - essential equipment as far as my English husband is concerned. No need to pack saucepans, utensils etc so the extra we had packed were superfluous. Warning: the hotel is right next door to the casino. They had entertainment most nights but none of it stupidly late, or incredibly loud and we found that the double glazing was sufficient to mask the worst of the noise and it didn't keep our 3.5yo awake. Parking in Cayeux-Sur-Mer on the street is free. This does not mean that it is easy to find, particularly on one of the warmest weekends of the year, when most of France decided to make the most of the seaside. But it seems that any spare space is fair game for parking on, including on the pavements blocking pedestrian access. But God help you if you put your car in front of the hotel gates, you'll get a politely firm note left asking you to move, but no ticket. All in all, we thought this was a nice place to stay. Yes, one of the lifts still isn't working and doesn't look like it is going to be repaired any time soon, so there were a number of times where me and our 3.5yo waited for the lift while my husband walked up the narrow spiral staircase that I'm fairly sure wouldn't conform to UK standards. The pool closes at 6.30pm and it would've been nice to pop down for a late night swim before retiring for the night. Also, the front door of the hotel was permanently closed and all access was from the car park at the rear. No restaurant facilities or children activities at the hotel, but a small number of reasonable restaurants within walking distance (although we cooked our own most nights) and there appeared to be activities for kids on the beach front. We spent most days driving other places.
The residence needs to be better maintained. One lift out of order (with no sign of it being fixed in near future), carpets in corridors stained, door on outside rusting, furniture in apartment shabby, access to underground carpark too steep and not enough outside carparking spaces. 1 bed apartment ok for 2, but too small for 4 people. Bed settee uncomfortable to sit on as no back, just a cushion against wall. Swimming pool very small, only open limited hours and always full of children, making it impossible for adults to use. Overall disappointing and not good value for money. Cayeux has little to offer, just a long pebble beach, few shops, limited restaurants, which are overpriced and the food is disappointing, better to go to Saint Valery which has a good choice of retaurants for less money.
