Sifnaika Konakia, on the Greek Isle of Sifnos Above the bay, your back to the mountains You sit as in the lap of God. The mountains arms beside you run down to the sea. And the Godhead—the sun—rises behind you, And cups the bay in his hands. Our stay at Sifnaika Konakia inspired my husband to write this poem when our family recently stayed at this delightful hotel in Sifnos. What a treasure! Entering the stone courtyard introduces a spellbinding peace and the loveliest of surroundings. The beautifully appointed rooms have a natural island “feel,” and each has a private terrace surrounded by mountains and overlooking the Aegean Sea. Maria, a perfect hostess, prepared delightful breakfasts; fresh fruits, yogurt, cheese, meat, bread, and pastries. Luckily we were there on a Sunday, the day for serving the traditional Sifnos chick pea soup. It’s preparation in stoneware begins on Saturday, to be enjoyed on Sunday, and Maria made sure we enjoyed it as well. The location of the hotel is ideal, a short walk to the town of Kamares, whose white-washed buidings sidle up to a pristine beach.
I stayed at Sifnaika recently with my parents. The property is beautifully landscaped and peaceful with gorgeous views of the sea and mountains. The rooms are comfortable, clean and nicely adorned and each has a patio. Having breakfast of Maria's delicious breads and pastries at the nice outdoor seating area was a highlight. The hotel is situated nicely in a quiet location, yet only 5-10 minute walk to the harbor and all the shops and restaurants. The public bus stop is directly across from Sifnaika and the bus service is easy to use and comfortable. We did not have a car so this was handy. We highly recommend Sifnaika Konakia.
We stayed in an apartment for 2 which was spacious and well furnished with very comfortable bed, heavy shutters so good for sleep, great terraces, lovely views, very well equipped - everything provided, including beach towels. All immaculate and clean. Everything is built in local stone in a rustic style and very well planned so that everywhere looks down to sea and there are lots of lovely areas and patios to sit, relax and unwind (including hammock, loungers and outside Jacuzzi). Maria is an extremely good host, picked us up from the port, took us back, gave us a very warm welcome, was full of advice and tips. She is from the island and stays there all year round, with her family, works incredibly hard, and provides wonderful breakfasts with fresh produce, eggs, yoghurt, etc. It is only 5 minutes walk down into the main street of Kamares (which is small) and to the lovely beach. The bus stop is opposite but we hired a car in order to see as much of the island as we could in a short space of time. We loved Sifnos - it has a laid back charm and is quiet and peaceful and very friendly. Would return in a heart beat.
We stayed here for 4 nights and were well pleased. The accommodation is very clean, the views lovely and Maria and her staff very friendly. We were lucky enough to be there on a Sunday and so be able to partake of the (complimentary) traditional chickpea soup, with bread and wine, available in the quiet, peaceful and shaded barbeque area.
Proprietress Maria runs an excellent place, beautifully landscaped, all kinds of cosy places to sit in the grounds, and last but certainly not least, the spotless rooms, and the views, especially from the second storey appartments. We stayed six nights and would not have minded to stay another six! Add to this the friendly service....
Although the hotel is only a 10 mins walk from the port and from the town, Maria picked us up at he port when our boat arrived, which's very nice after a long trip. The hotel is flawless. Very tidy and pretty gardens. The rooms are nicely decorated with balconies overlooking the mountains and the sea. Breakfast is nice. Maria and the staff are always available to help. On some days we'd take the bus to go to other beaches other than Kamares, and to Apolonia and other towns ( the bus stop is in front of the hotel ), but then the Kamares beach was so nice and only a 5 min walk from the hotel that most days we'd just go there. Very convenient.
We had a really pleasant stay in Sifnaika Konakia. We stayed 5 nights in a sea view room. Peaceful and quiet place, super clean and comfortable. Nice terrace with view. The staff is very kind and helpful. Great location to visit the all island. Note that the hotel is just aside from the road (but very quiet in the night). We would definitely come back one day to this charming place !!
A great place to stay in Kamares. Lovely breakfast and great views from most rooms. I can understand that this is a popular pension. If interested, Maria takes the time to tell you a bit about village life as well.
remarkable location with view of Kamares, very clean room, daily cleaning service, nice homemade breakfast and Maria always willing to assist you...you should definitely try her Sunday's chickpea soup!!
My wife and I have just come to the end of our month long holiday around Europe and to say our stay Sifnaika was the best would be an understatement. From the moment we stepped off the ferry we were greeted by our host Maria and from that moment on nothing was too much trouble for her or indeed her lovely staff. Maria was friendly kind and generous and anything she could do make our stay a happy one she did. Sifnos is a hidden gem and this accommodation is absolutely superb, set in the most beautiful and traditional setting the rooms are outstanding and I cannot fault in way. If you are staying over a Sunday Maria makes a complimentary chickpea soup ( superb)with wine and bread which you eat in the beautiful rustic and charming gardens. I cannot recommend highly enough.
