The Soria Maria is a nice hotel for a reasonable price in Siem Reap. The main draw for us was that Soria has strong ties to the community and supports good causes within Cambodia. This is evident throughout the hotel and is really commendable. The location of the hotel is good- a 10 minute, pleasant walk along the river to pub street, the old market and most of the main restaurants in town. It's far enough away to be quiet and peaceful but close enough to feel part of the action. The staff were excellent. Extremely helpful in all respects and very friendly. They arranged a guided two day tour of Angkor Wat for us and both the driver and guide were great. Every hotel in the area takes commission from guides and drivers, but we were reliably informed that Soria takes far less than most hotels, which again is evidence of their good work. The hotel itself was good for the money. The pool was small but good for cooling off and empty most of the time (and you don't really come to Siem Reap to swim!). The rooms were spacious and clean with good showers. The only downside was that the aircon wasn't fantastic but would eventually cool the room to a good temperature. Please don't think you'll be too hot- it was 38C during our stay and we slept perfectly fine. It just takes time to work. The upstairs bar and hot tub are nice additions but are a little dated. Breakfasts were fine. A nice selection of fruits, drinks, breads plus a cooked option. Very reasonable for the price. All in all, this is a nice hotel and very good for the price. It also does some great work, so it's good to support it. Would fully recommend.
My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights in May. The hotel staff were extremely helpful in helping us organise activities including tuk tuk drivers for the Angkor temples, silk farm and pottery excursions. The room was massive, but the aircon fairly weak. Wifi throughout the hotel was good and free toiletries and tea and coffee. The roof hot tub is nice, we sat watching gekkos and a thunderstorm in the distance. The pool is small but nice and in the entire time we were there we were the only ones in it. Good location, easy walk to the main shops/ market area. For the price this hotel is excellent. Thanks I&T
Definitely recommend this hotel. Nice big room, comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities. Good shower plenty of hot water. Dinning room has a guest house feel about it, breakfast is cooked to order and they have specials on different days in the restaurant. We were able to get a breakfast made up for us so we could go out to Angkor Wat for sunrise. Laundry is really cheap and same day service. The staff are excellent and can't do enough for you.
Really liked this hotel. Staff are helpful and it's so convenient being just across the bridge to the centre of town. The rooms were bright, large and comfortable with tea, coffee and the bathroom was clean and modern. You had a choice from a small menu for breakfast, but it was fresh and good.
We were very happy with our stay here. The room was spacious and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel was very quiet during our stay so we had the rooftop bar and hot tub almost to ourselves. Excellent cocktails on the rooftop bar. The only negative was very slow service on several occasions when we ordered food.
A small and quiet hotel, located a little out of the way from the main touristy part of the city. It’s clean, rooms are quite well appointed. The rooftop bar is small but it’s a part of its appeal. Would consider staying it again if travelling alone, but would not stay there with children.
A good hotel with a great philosophy, it is all about educating and empowering the workers and give them a fair chance in life. I had a long conversation with the General Manager who told me about her own experience and road traveled. In the end you will visit a hotel with a highly motivated and knowledgable staff, nice rooms and a good kitchen. Enjoy!
Would recommend this hotel in Siem Reap. Rooms were comfortable with good amenities, even kettle and tea/coffee. The hotel provides useful information for tourists, including recommended pricing for remorks, places to eat, etc. Their $1 tapas night was fantastic. Staff are very helpful. Nice little swimming pool to cool off in.
We were staying at a smaller hotel around the corner and were recommended to try this hotels rooftop restaurant. We found it interesting, specially as this hotel was established with the help of some Norwegians. We enjoyed the rooftop view. The outdoor restaurant was rather small but the food was good,- they even served Swedish meatballs. The staff was smiling and friendly and this hotel supports the community by training young people as well. We did not check rooms or prices, but the location of this hotel is very good,- quiet and not to far from where all the markets and action is.
We were staying on this street at a different hotel. Went out searching for food at 9.45 pm. Charcoal was our place of choice but it was closed. We stopped by this place and first we were told that it's late and they would just serve drinks. We begged a little and this very sweet server said he would check with the cook. He did manage to convince the cook and lucky for us, they had a 1$ menu . We ordered a bunch of tapas plates all of which were really yummy and a few drinks as well. What I really appreciate was the helpful server who really went out of his way to feed a bunch of hungry girls!! Thank you so much and I will definitely stay with you if I come bacl
