Mercure Shrewsbury Albrighton Hall Hotel and Spa4.0 out of 5.0

Enjoyed a one night stay at Albrighton Hall over a very busy weekend for the hotel. Despite a wedding and other parties being held the facilities and service were great. Reception staff welcoming and accommodation very good. Politeness and service of all staff excellent particularly in the restaurant. The use of the spa makes this an extremely good value place to stay. Will definitely visit again.
My partner bought a deal from Wowcher for my birthday which included access to the spa, a treatment each, dinner & an overnight stay. Firstly, when we were checking in there were two employees clearly having an argument on reception - not a great start. We then got to our room which was quite small and the walls had such big cracks in them that it honestly looked like it had been struck by lightning. We also had 4 spiders in the room with us which was great... We went straight to the spa where a couple in front of us were given robes, towels and slippers and we saw a sign mentioning that if you're on an overnight spa package you are given these for free (which you would assume would be standard these days anyways). We were only given the towels because we were on a Wowcher deal so not entitled to any extras...right ok. The spa itself is very small and tired looking with only 8 seats in the main area. None were available when we arrived so I asked the guys on reception if any additional seats could be brought in...he said they could fit one more in which wasn't helpful. Luckily a couple advised us they were leaving soon. Our dinner reservation wasn't until past 8pm so we asked at the bar on the way back from the spa if we could just order some chips to our room...yeah no problem, oh but there's a £5 tray charge is that ok? Turns out they charge £5 ON TOP of whatever you order just to walk up a flight of stairs!! Safe to say we decided not to order anything in the end. We had a 2 course meal included with our Wowcher; meals were small but nice. Charged us £2.50 for sauce with the steak even though this price was not mentioned by the waitress or on the menu anywhere. Service was pretty slow. Back to the room and we soon realised our room was directly above the bar so it was incredibly noisy. We didn't ask to change rooms as by this point it was very late and as there had been a wedding on, we made the assumption there wouldn't be many available rooms. To give this place credit, breakfast in the morning was great. After check out, we went to get our treatments done; a back and shoulder massage. We were in the same room which was nice. I ended up being in quite a bit of pain during the massage, however it was my own fault for not telling the masseuse to be less firm but to be quite honest it was awkward and I've never had an issue like this before. She did mention I would be achy afterwards from all the work on the knots in my back - she wasn't joking!! :( Back at work on Monday and my work colleagues asked if we got the prosecco in our room...which we didn't. Turns out they had organised and paid for a bottle with a nice message to be in our room as a surprise. My colleague rang the hotel and eventually managed to get a refund as they agreed we didn't get this, however no excuse was given as to why. All in all, bit of a snobby hotel that needs a good refurb. Do not recommend and will not be going back.
Stayed here for two nights very comfortable large room overlooking the lake. Good is excellent full buffet style breakfast (hot and cold ). The staff were very obliging and would arrange different eggs or anything you requested. The Spa is wonderful and all the different areas assess beautifully maintained. Definitely worth a visit.
Stayed 2 nights to attend a wedding £240 in total - 2 nights B&B. Room in the Stable Block was nice, clean and roomy, even a little fridge which was great. We had dinner on the Friday, as part of the wedding party, Rubbery chicken in strange sauce, the cheapest bottle for wine was over £20. Breakfast was a muddle of staff walking round either ignoring people, or leaving them at the waiting area for a while. Then escorting any elderly/infirm person with a stick, to complete other end of room, it was like a scene out of Fawlty Towers! Breakfast was buffet style, the juices and fruit/cereal all fine, the 'hot' buffet was truly appalling both days, just unappetising food left to congeal, and become very cold under lights, think the eggs must have been their 2 days (see photo!) Hash Browns would make fab wallpaper strippers, bacon looked reasonable quality, but folded over and dumped in serving dish, one side of the bacon was almost raw, budget type sausages, and dried up beans, it looked and was horrid. Coffee and tea brought to you, both times luke warm, asked to have a hot pot, it arrived even colder than the first... We thought the next day when in private room with wedding party maybe better, we had juice, fought with the useless toast machine which left the middle of the (grey) bread un-done, and all the crusts cremated. We physically 'gipped' at the hot breakfast, (no fresh fruit on offer) just some budget yoghurts sat in bowl of tepid water. So we left, and went to Costa. On checking out, I asked for breakfast deducting from my bill, at first the lovely guy on reception said I would have to pay then sort out via telephone when I got home (right) so I said I would get home and then telephone and negotiate, and not pay anything now at check out, in the end he deducted £40. I asked him to come and view the 'food' on offer, he declined, they really need to sort this out, hotel is in a fabulous setting, but food is truly disgusting....
Me and my husband arrived here for a one night stay last weekend. It was a gift from my parents through buyagift.com. On arrival the place looked beautiful and we walked in to a bright and modern reception area where we were checked in very swiftly. We were given our room card and made our way to the room which was number 16. all i can say is AVOID ROOM 16! For a superior double room this room is well well below par. Small, dark, fusty, filthy windows with great views of groaning extractor fans. Being as this was meant to be a special weekend away, we went to complain to reception. They seemed to be in agreement that the room clearly wasn't up to scratch. A very tall young man (can't remember his name) was very polite and friendly and led us to the one remaining room in the hotel which was in the old stable block, number 85. When he showed us, the room was stunning! Bright, airy, clean, huge bathroom with walk in shower and bath and most importantly quiet. It was perfect and we moved rooms very quickly. Thank you to the tall young man who sorted it out for us. I cannot believe that room 16 is classed as the same as 85! 16 should not be charged at the same amount. We had a three course dinner in the oak panel restaurant that was beautiful. Quickly served and great quality food. Really enjoyed it. Being as there was a wedding on that weekend, we decided to opt for breakfast served to the room. We ticked what we wanted and left it on our door the evening before. The next morning it arrived within the time we requested and it was all very hot and fresh. Was disappointed that there was no option for beans though? We asked for fried eggs and received boiled eggs but we didn't say anything and eat them. Overall, after the initial room problem, we had a lovely nights stay, just what we needed. I would love to come visit again, but I think either in one of the suites or a room in the stable block.
We stayed here for one nights stay for a friends wedding. We booked a room at their "reduced" rate for guests of the wedding party, however it was cheaper booking on the Internet ! The wedding function was nice. The room we booked was with a news paper in the morning... No newspaper. We tried to order room service that evening, however discovered when trying to order ( which took some time to sort out as getting telephone numbers was not easy ) that due to some "work" being carried out it was only from the bar menu. However we didn't have a bar menu in the room. So one was dropped to our room. We ordered at 9:13pm. We were told 20 minutes At 10:30pm we telephoned reception to ask where was our room service. And suddenly it arrived five minutes later. Not sure where it had been for the last 1hr 20 mins.... Together with the bill ! The food was... Basic and not very palatable. We "queried" this together with the lack of news paper with a chap on reception. We still got no paper, however they did remove the room service and conceded that over an hour was far too long to wait for room service.. AND be expected to pay for the poor service. We had our breakfast after waiting some 10 minutes to be seated... The staff member manning the podium had gone.... The food was usual mediocre food. Overall, room was ok, bed & pillows was quiet firm. General decor everywhere was tired. The bathroom was clean but again tired with yellow sealant etc... The service was... Mediocre.. Trying to get hold of reception at 9pm was a mission. First attempt was answered, eventually, 2nd, rang out and the 3rd again was answered eventually. We were never told about the restricted room service. On the whole, was it not for the wedding this would not be our usual choice of place to stay and o really wish I had spent my £171.00 for room and 4 bar drinks on something else.. But not and experience I will be repeating. As a 4star hotel at 140.00 a night I would have expected far better.
We stayed here on a Wowcher deal as an anniversary treat for being with my wife for 10 years. The hotel was very nice and has some lovely grounds , especially if you plan on getting married there . The rooms are modern and the food is lovely . We had access to the spa and pool facilities, and took advantage of the thermal suite which included a steam room, sauna ,aroma room ,and ice room . There is renovations planned for November so check before booking. They also had problems with the heating in the pool but that didn't bother us too much. Nice break was had by both of us and I'd like to thank the hotel for our one night away 👍🏼
We were looking for a little get away before our baby arrives shortly. I found a deal on Wowcher was an outstanding value for what was included. The grounds were beautiful and the hotel was in a very good condition. We had a lovely room with a big comfy bed. There was a fridge in there also, however it would have been good if it was stocked, as I had to nip out to the local shop to get some bottled water as I prefer not to drink tap water. We had a 3 course meal in the restaurant which we found to be fantastic. My husband thinks it was quite possibly the best beef he has ever eat. I had the risotto which again was lovely. I was a little bit disappointed with the Eaton mess as there was no meringue in it. Breakfast was of a great standard, first time I've had 3 course for breakfast! I'm blaming it on the baby being hungry!! It really was yummy and set us up for the day. We both had a massage in the spa, and this I have to say is the best massage I have had. I'd travel here again just to have that lady give me a massage! Sorry I can't remember her name. The pool area was in good condition and quite relaxing. The pool was very cold though and a regular customer said it was colder than normal which was a shame as I didn't dare get fully in. I think this is a great hotel and the poor review previous is clearly someone with an agenda to cause a fuss. The whole of our stay did not reflect one ounce of what has been said in the other review, and we found all of the stay to be fantastic, apart from really maybe the man hovering in the restaurant without a uniform, he seemed to be checking on what the staff were doing, but looked very out of place. He made me feel uncomfortable, so the staff certainly must have been.
We booked up to stay in a normal room but upgraded to the Thomas Ireland suite .. was fabulous , staff were friendly and helpful .. restaurant served an extensive breakfast catering for all tastes .. evening meals were superb .. used gym and spa/pool areas and they were very good .. note to gym users to take headphones 🎧 as machines very good but no good for lip reading lol .. would have used gym more if was able to enjoy radio or TV coverage on machines xx Would go back tomorrow ! X
Stayed with a friend using a wowcher deal. Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The spa facial was gorgeous and we could both see the results of the treatment. Dinner was excellent, can highly recommend the bread and butter pud, best I have ever had. Good choice at breakfast, plenty for veggies too. We felt that deal was excellent value. (Didn't spot one fly either).
