room, bed, et al, up to expected standards, clean, everything working, plenty of parking. Staff friendly and helpful. But oh dear the food. Due to road traffic accidents it took me 90 mins longer to arrive than planned and I had had enough driving so decided to just try the hotel food. Poor to average, at best, heat-and-serve fare, as such quite pricy I felt. And ENGLISH BEER does NOT need to be kept in a fridge. I'm all in favour of bottles - means you don't have to keep a pump working, change barrels, or risk a barrel going off due to slow sales. Means you can provide a wider variety (though you didn't). Hobgoblin an excellent choice. Well, my only choice. BUT it was FAR TOO COLD. I recently stayed in an HI Express elsewhere in the country and the only choice there was Speckled Hen - again, nothing wrong with that, but COLD! Fortunately on that occasion the bar manager had a case on hand which had not yet gone IN to the fridge, and with very little additional prompting was happy to server our party from that case. Indeed, I believe we drnk it all during our stay. I would also suggest you just hand over the bottle and glass, don't tip half of the beer in so you generate a HUGE unwanted head then leave the customer to deal with the aftermath! But DO NOT SERVE IT REFRIDGERATED! Now back to your regular programming...
I needed accommodation for my wife and I last weekend whilst I was working in the area. I'd never used Holiday Inn Express before and it exceeded my expectations, from the time we arrived until our departure. Staff - all friendly and welcoming, particularly the Chef who stopped at breakfast tables to ensure everyone had enough food. Housekeeping hadn't checked to ensure we had a remote control in the room and failed to understand our wishes about changing towels. Parking good - Wifi good - Dinner good - Breakfast very good (maybe add GF sausages?) Room - very nicely appointed and well furnished and quite large. My wife used the taxi service into Shrewsbury on the Saturday but waited an hour for it to arrive at the hotel. A lady I spoke to on Saturday morning thought she was going to miss her train because her taxi was late arriving at the hotel. My wife was unable to get a taxi back to the hotel in the afternoon but managed to find a bus. Reception staff all very helpful. I'd recommend this hotel for visitors to Shrewsbury!
Staff friendly and professional. Dog Friendly rooms. Dogs not permitted in restaurant but can sit in foyer with them. Bedroom cold but has electric radiator to combat this problem. Staff aware of coldness in some rooms, but unable to rectify problem. I believe the lack of warmth has been going on a long time. Our bedroom large and comfortable due in part to being a disabled room. Bathroom was a wet room. Adequate choice of breakfast. Choice of 4 hot items scrambled egg, beans, sausage and bacon. Choice of 2 fruit juice. Croissants, rolls, fruit cereal tea and coffee available. All self service. Have to find plates these are situated under the self service foods on shelves.
A hotel we have visited before that suited our needs. A very comfortable bed, good breakfast and friendly staff, especially Jessica, who is an asset to the hotel. Only moan, no mustard available at breakfast.
Stayed here for a weekend break. Most surprised that breakfast was included and even more so that it was so darn tasty! The breakfast included a selection of options including bacon, sausage, scrambled egg and beans, toast, croissants, yoghurt, fruit, cereal, juices, tea and coffee. The breakfast area is a good size so you don't feel claustrophobic. That was the theme of the rooms also as they were spacious wirh good sized beds a desk and chair and large wardrobe. The bathroom in our room was also huge. The shower was a separate cubicle (no bath) which could fit 2 or even 3 people in and had a little seated area. There was a slight step up which may make it more difficult for those with some mobility issues. Everything was clean and tidy. There is a kettle which comes with 4 little uht milks and some teabgs and coffee packets. The room also had an iron, ironboard and hairdryer. All in all it was really comfortable and welcoming; a great base to explore Shrewsbury.
Huge room! Huge bed but bit too hard for my liking. Very clean, had all we needed. Nice cooked breakfast which my husband didn't think we'd get! Good location for short drive into town. Room was by the road so couldn't open window because of traffic noise but overall good value for a one night stay.
I stayed for one night on buisness. Room was very comfortable Bed very comfy. My room was next to the road but I heard no noise with the window shut. Food was good but the hotel was full so limited choices but my choice was well cooked and tasty Helpful staff team. I would stay again.
We got given a very large room with a reasonably comfortable bed. Huge space to move around and bathroom was very spacious. Staff were very friendly and a great location to get into either Shrewsbury or Telford. For the money, definitely worth it.
In the middle of a business estate but quiet and loads of parking, staff welcoming room for disabled was up a floor in a good sized lift room and bathroom spacious, bit confused why a wheelchair accessible room would have the towel shelf high above the toilet so difficult to reach bed good it was all over good but what made it was the staff when we came back that night went above and beyond for us I had spent the evening being sick so hadn’t eaten they were amazing carrying a tray of my own bought food up to he room after the gentleman had warmed it plated it, amazing absolutely amazing so helpful he single handed has bought this as one of my top places not sir the hotel because the mid range hotel rooms are all pretty much the same, but service fantastic.
Stayed for one night due to proximity to Guide Dogs for the Blind training centre. Plenty of free parking and breakfast was okay as usual in such hotels. The accommodation was adequate but in need of a bit of updating. We would stay again if in the area.
