I had an excellent experience. I’m very happy with the hotel service. The staff is very polite. Food is fresh and delicious. The rooms are super clean, smell nice and very comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel to others
I've passed seven nignts in the hotel Jen in my hometown Shenyang, which included many facilities for the common transport. Moreover, the room is confortable, the buffet breakfast is very delicious and people who work there are such nice and efficient, I recommand a lot.
My passport was with the travel agents to get my North Korea visa. I arrived and handed over my UK passport but as there was no Chinese visa they wouldn't let me check in. It shows a lack of flexibility that I am sure runs through everything at the hotel. Go to the Somerset. I am here just now and it's superb !
Very well located, just a few minutes on foot from the Shenyang train station and from a subway station. Room was spacious with a large bathroom. Many restaurant options and cafés very close. Only drawback: some of the hotel staff, i.e. housekeeping ladies, were talking very loudly in the corridor; maybe they need to be reminded that they work in a place where people come mainly to rest and sleep . This being said, I would still return and recommend this hotel.
Somehow the name Shangri-La does spell quality and service assurance, seldom goes wrong, and definitely no exception for Hotel Jen by Shangri-La in Shengyang. Location wise, this hotel answers all your shopping needs, int’l and local branded shops are all around the hotel, and if you come around this period ( autumn) you will definitely enjoy shopping here as the weather is so pleasant and nice. We like the breakfast spread the hotel provides, you get what you like to begin a new day. Rooms are spacious and the hotel provides good quality essentials for all your washing needs. If I am back here again, I don’t mind staying back at this hotel.
Confusion at check in, overbooked and couldnt find our booking .We waited for an hour and a half for check in. 2 room apt - turned out to be only 1 king sized bed and 1 single not 2 king size as advertised. No extra bed, only managed to find a mattress. One of us slept on that for a week. Asked for extra pillows, staff came with bedroom slippers. When she returned with the pillows, another guest happen to ask for more pillows for her apt she gruntled with displeasure commenting she was tired after having worked OT. A big let down for a shangrila managed hotel👎
Stayed at Hotel Jen by Shangrila, room 1749 for 2 nights from 16 May 2017. Its central location is its strongest selling point. Shall comment on Hotel Jen in point form later. How to locate it when you are out from Shenyang Train Station? Exit from 东广场East Square (see photo) . Once on street level, look for 中华路(Zhonghua Road) while our back face the railway station's red-brick facade. We used GPS but couldn't make up the direction initially. The problem was we hit Hotel Jen in the map but we forgot to use the "road name" as a guide when on road level. Too many roads that were parallel to Zhonghua Road (中华路） . Whatever it is, we were with huge luggage, we couldn't use the underpass because of the long flights of steps, we had to move to our left, cross the road using traffic lights. After crossing the road, turn right till we reach Zhonghua Road (中华路）. Hotel Jen logo is high up on the side of the building (see photo) . Total time taken with luggage from railway station to hotel : approximately 10-12 mins. Positive: 1. Superb Location. Near Shenyang Train Station (note it is NOT Shenyang North Station, 不是沈阳北站） . Within walking distance from the train station. With luggage, 10-12-min walk. 2. In between two metro stations, namely 沈阳站站 (Shenyang Railway Station) and 太原街站（Taiyuan Jie Station）. 3. Next to Taiyuan Pedestrianized Street (太原步行街 Taiyuan Buxing Jie）& Zhonghua Road (中华路 Zhonghua Lu) where many shops, restaurants and eateries are found; the best part of it, they are of various price range like Emporio Armani, Coach, yet they also have Charles & Keith and Yishion. There are at least 3 McDonald's and 1 KFC. Walmart is also diagonally opposite the hotel. They have mid-price restaurant like Li Lian Gui Xun Rou Da Bing Smoked meat (李连贵熏肉大饼）, Lu Gang Xiao Zhen (鹿港小镇)& they also have small eateries along two smaller streets, one opposite Hotel near Da Guang Ming Spectacles Shop (大光明眼镜 Da Guang Ming Yan Jing) & another one on the same side as hotel, 2 or 3 streets away from Tai Yuan Pedestrianized street and away from Hotel Jen but parallel to Tai Yuan Street. We patronised 李连贵熏肉大饼 (please see our review). We did not try the smaller eateries along the streets mentioned above. 4. Just 3 stations away from Imperial Palace (故宫）from Taiyuan Jie Metro Station (太原街站）. The station you should alight at is called Huai Yuan Men (怀远门）. Walk towards this huge wall that has Huai Yuan Men engraved on it; walk through the entrance in that wall, walk straight and Imperial Palace will appear before your eyes in 10 mins.(please see our review) 5. Only 4 stations away from Lao Bian Dumpling Restaurant (老边饺子馆）@Zhongjie （中街）Metro Station, Exit B. (please see our review) Lao Bian Dumplings were even nicer than dumplings at Dongfang Jiaozi Wang 东方饺子王 which we patronised in Harbin and saw in Changchun. 6. One earlier reviewer of this hotel mentioned about Wuai Shopping Mall/Wholesale Centre (五爱市场）. Bus 237, diagonally opposite hotel goes there. Alight about 7-9 stops later at 风雨坛街(Feng Yu Tan Street). Walk towards Doubletree (Hilton) Hotel and Wuai is opposite it. You can't miss Doubletree's modern architecture which resembles 2 pregnant ladies; for Singaporeans, Doubletree resembles South Beach Centre, opposite Suntec City. Due to construction Wuai area, it was dusty. In addition, the pedestrian walkways were badly-maintained hmmm.... unless you really have something to buy there, if not, you may wanna give it a miss. Shopping along Taiyuan and Middle streets is more pleasant. Alternatively, you may consider taking a cab to Wuai so that you do not need to walk around that area but to get into the building immediately. The environment which Hotel Jen is in is more conducive than some other hotels, for example, Doubletree. 今酒店周围没那么杂。 7. Swift checking in by Kevin, the receptionist. I believe he understands English as he mentioned me to his colleague whom he has asked to help out by my surname and not just by a pronoun. Very professional. 8. Reception area is bigger than Hotel Jen Singapore Orchardgateway. 9. 6 lifts to take you up to your room. 10. Big rooms of about 300-350sf. 11. Very comfortable bed and pillows. 12. There was a 2-seater sofa, arm chair, coffee table and study table. 13. All essentials such as bottles of toiletries, body lotion, vanity pack with cotton buds only, shower cap, toothbrush sets, hairdryer, fridge, safe, iron/ironing board, bathrobes, slippers, two bottles of water provided (1st day) and 4 bottles of water provided (2nd day), coffee/tea sachets, creamer, white/raw sugar etc. 14. 24-hour gym. (No pool) 15. Good WiFi 16. Good TV Channels selection Areas to be improved: 1. Room decor a bit dated: for example wall lamp/ceiling lamp, the timber furniture, carpet etc. 2. The room looked jaded. 3. Bathroom design looked 1980s/ 1990s with bathtub and shower curtain. No flexi-shower head, thus the need to wear shower cap if not washing hair. Old taps, old flushing system but all in working order except sink tap kept dripping despite turning it tightly. 4. TV reception fuzzy. Hotel Jen by Shangrila has triumped for months at TA for many reasons. Will we return to Hotel Jen? Will we recommend the hotel to you? A clear YES if CONVENIENCE is top in your list in choosing a hotel. P/S : For those who intend to travel like us, please refer to our reviews as follows:- 1. Flew to Shanghai from Singapore, mainly for Shanghai Disneyland. (3D) 2. Domestic flight from Shanghai to Harbin (3-hr flight) (5D) 3. Train from Harbin to Changchun (1.5-2hrs) (2D) 4. Train from Changchun to Shenyang (1.5-2hrs) (2D) 5. Train from Shenyang to Dalian (2hrs) (2D) Not enough. Should have allocated at least 4D in Dalian 6. Domestic flight from Dalian to Shanghai (1hr 50mins) (1D) 7. Flew home from Dalian
Easy walk from the train station. Hardest part is getting out of the parking lot. Look for the hotel Jen logo on the top of the building in the attached picture. Front desk staff not friendly and carpets badly soiled. Room too hot to sleep. A/C shuts off when you leave the room.
When you stay here don't expect a 5 star modern hotel, the decoration is very dated and worn out. The breakfast was not tasty as all, it was a very poor selection of not tasty food. Having said that the hotel did have its redeeming points. Our room was very large and the location is very central with the shopping street underground mall right outside the front door. The rooms where clean and the staff friendly. We felt it was ok value but probably a bit on the expensive side given the old decor and the not nice breakfast.
I stayed at Hotel Jen for 3D2N and it was very pleasant. The room was very nice, clean and the bed is so comfortable! Everything that I need is there for me. However, the aircon is not really working for my room but it wasn't a big problem since it's a little chilly outside. The concierge was very helpful to get us a cab and answer our questions. They also do communicate in English so that helps, for those non-Chinese speakers. The location is the best. We were just a 20 minutes ride from the imperial palace, Wu Ai Shopping City (which probably has everything you want, provided you don't care about the branding). I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone heading to ShenYang for a few days or even weeks.
