I’ve been to 73 countries and this is hands down the best hotel I’ve ever stayed at in my life. I’ve returned 3 times ever since I discovered it last year. Now if they could just reduce the price of food at this hotel, it would be perfect. Go during summer (June-Aug) to get a good rate.

By far the most tasteful hotel in the GCC, for at least a decade running: very nice, sedate landscaping and public spaces; sufficient nod to local building style; good color choices (white and dark woods); and overall quiet atmosphere. Food quality is remarkably high for the region, and service is less obsequious. A pleasure to return to. High season rates are a little absurd, but shoulder and low season are fairly reasonable. If you don't stay here, you're really missing out -- almost like skipping the Muttrah waterfront. Only a few 'mistakes' (these being very minor when compared to other hotels in Oman, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar): (a) the main restaurant design is a little off-putting: a series of buffet feeding stations that are out of character with the rest of the hotel (b) Suites often lack privacy; if you're outdoors on your patio/balcony, anyone passing can see you (c) Some of the building materials and finishing are a little cheap-looking (though, again, good by GCC standards) (d) the beach is so-so, and every time I've been there's been rubbish in the water (but the pools amply compensate)
