Stayed for one night while passing through Fort Augustus and can highly recommend this hotel. The staff were very welcoming and the room cosy and good value for money. An added bonus for us was that our dog could stay too. We stayed in one of the garden rooms which had its own wee outdoor space.- ideal for the dog. We also had dinner in the Bistro restaurant at the hotel and the food was delicious.
We were very lucky to have won a weekend break at The Lovat through a local charity auction (we live in the Highlands ourselves, an hour from Fort Augustus). We booked in March 2017 for October to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were thrilled when we arrived. It is wonderful to come to a Highland hotel in Autumn, with two large drawing rooms with open fires: very cosy and such a delight. We had a lovely welcome and were shown to our room - very large, on the top floor, with a wonderful view over the locks, over to Loch Ness and the mountains. We had a very large bathroom too with shower and bath. We were very lucky indeed to have the taster menu in the Station Road Restaurant for our second night's dinner - fish based for my husband, and a vegan alternative for me. The staff pulled out all the stops for us. We will definitely be back. Probably the best place to stay in Fort Augustus.
My wife and I stayed for a couple of nights. You might think a building of this age would be run down and damp but not this one. Inside is very fresh and decorated to a high standard. The lady who booked us in even carried our case to the room and showed us around. All the staff in the hotel are very helpful and friendly. The menu and food is of a very high standard. We will definitely come here again.
We stayed two nights in this historical hotel with wonderful relaxed setting. Very comfortable room with view to the Loch and hills. Wide variety of choices for breakfast and extensive cold buffet as part of the included breakfast made it a good value. Ate early in the Brasserie for both nights and enjoyed the main courses and desserts. Some menu items were not available for later eaters. While the food was good, the service was often slower than expected and appeared disorganized. This would not change our minds about staying here again. We look forward to return.
6 of us stayed here on a journey through the Highlands. The hotel is situated very close to the Locks which are very neat to see. There are also shops to visit and restaurants along the Lock and it is all walking distance. We stayed in the exterior rooms apart from the house and they were very comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely amazing! I think we all got something different and everyone loved what they ordered. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful.
Whilst on holiday we popped in here for some cocktails. Priced at £8.50 each I thought they were a bit steep but was hoping for something spectacular. Unfortunately they were just okay. Expensive for what you get.
Stayed her for two nights on dinner bed and breakfast. Food amazing. Breakfasts had plenty of choice. Ate in the brasserie on night one and had a 5 course culinary experience in the station on night two. This was a set menu created by the chef Shaun Kelly and certainly made the stay a taste of SCOTLAND experience using locally foraged and seasonal ingredients. The bar and lounges were comfortable as was the twin room with a view of the adjacent Caledonian canal lochs. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were given some cookies on departure which were really appreciated during our long drive home. Fort Augustus has many local walks or Nessie experiences and is a wonderful location to strike out. Would recommend the Lovat as a base.
From the moment you walk into the foyer, you are greeted as if you have been long awaited. It is a beautiful hotel with thoughtful amenities. We were treated to tea and coffee upon arrival. Our room was gorgeous. Clean, clean, clean. All the amenities of home were there. Meals can be had on site. The restaurant had a varied menu and the food was great. I accidentally left my computer cord in the room and was contacted immediately by the hotel who offered to send it to my new location. You must take a walk down the locks and out to the loch. It is so peaceful. Such and idyllic location. The Lovat is steeped in highland history. I would return here again and again.
This was a real surprise, recently refurbished, excellent accommodation in the cottages/annex. We were a large group on a road trip and they accommodated us very well. Lovely, friendly staff, good food and wine. Breakfast was slightly odd with the kitchen opening a half hour after the continental offering was available. Would stay again though.
We stayed at The Lovat while travelling around Scotland and were very impressed. We had scones on our arrival in a very warm and comfortable lounge which was much needed after our walk around the loch. The bedroom was brilliant and the bathroom was massive with a view of the loch. We walked around Fort Augustus before dinner which was really nice to do when the majority of tourists had left. We ate at the hotel and dinner was also great, especially the chocolate desert.
