We had our Silver Wedding Anniversary party at Cringletie on Tuesday 2 January and we all had a wonderful time. There were 50 of us including 20 children ranging in age from 5 months to 13 years and almost 30 of us stayed over. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the rooms amazing. Pancakes, berries and maple syrup was a great breakfast favourite with the children! The rooms were very comfortable and spacious even with several used as family rooms. Some of our party stayed in the cottage and had equally favourable comments. With thanks to Jeremy and his team - enjoy a well earned holiday. Kathy and Tony
The reception was very good with a lovely fire in the hall, it had been minus 10 degrees earlier in the week so this was very welcome. We had booked a room to stay overnight, when we entered it was cold, the radiators had been turned off at some point. We turned these up and thought to warm up we would have coffee in the sitting room. Unfortunately there was no fire in the sitting room and it too was cold. I ended up really quite chilled. I do acknowledge that it is very difficult to keep an old house warm but a fire in the sitting room given the snow and temperature outside would have been very welcome. The dinner was excellent, and the service was excellent. Breakfast was not terribly organised, the Orange juice running out on two occasions that I noticed, two jugs of orange juice would have been useful. There were various other glitches, toast was very late, water was running over the table from flower arrangements having been watered. Would I go back, yes probably, but not in the winter
We booked 11:00 am walk with Alpacas for 1hour in the grounds of the hotel then lunch the whole experience was fantastic the heavy snow fall the night before made it a magical walk through the woods etc. The company supplying the Alpacas were excellent and very professional the animals were all characters and well behaved walking in the snow. The Buffet lunch was a great balance of good quality produce and splendid service as usual this is not the first time we have been to the Hotel and will not be the last.
We decided to hold our 40th wedding anniversary here after popping in a few times in the past for lunch etc. We werent disappointed. We had a family meal for 42 people in the conservatory which was beautifully decorated for us and the food, without exception, was excellent. Cringletie is set in beautiful country surroundings and the fact that there had been snow the day before just made it look even more magical. 22 of us stayed overnight and enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the dining room with views to die for of the surrounding countryside. A stunning old house, cosy and comfortable (and luxurious) bedrooms with extra comfy beds I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone. We will be visiting again but meantime this place holds a special place in our hearts. Thanks of course to the GM - Jeremy who helped us throughout in the organising of the event, and all the other staff who never failed to be pleasant. It was a night to remember!
We had a disappointing meal on our last visit but were happy to book again for a pre Christmas stay and meal en route to Edinburgh. We received a very warm welcome by the receptionist and shown to our room. The room was on the 4th floor ( we like to try different rooms/floors when we visit) and the room was of ample size but cosy and tastefully decorated. We had lovely views from the dual aspect windows over the surrounding countryside. The barman and our Polish waiter were very helpful and excellent. The waiter made our dinner enjoyable and interesting as did the lovely food. Breakfast was equally as good. So pleased that this visit lived fully up to expectations though again it would have been even better to have the log fires burning ( the dining room is a big room and a wee chilly). Look forward to a return visit in 2018.
My partner and I had been out walking and although we had appropriate clothing for this purpose (which was clean). When we asked if we could have a cup of tea and a scone. The receptionist and a man who took our coats treated us like dirt!! The waiting staff were not Friendly lacked decent customer care. We had thought we might book for a future weekend, needless to say we won’t be patronising this establishment again! I have been to the barony castle hotel in Peebles after this dreadful experience and the staff could not have been nicer and more helpful unlike the snobby staff in the Cringletie
A fabulous visit right from the warm welcome on arrival. A great balance of luxury with informality. The food was exceptional and came with great advice on an interesting wine list. Flawless service and will be returning
It is a lovely venue in a stunning location. We were greeted, coats taken and led through to the conservatory where the table was beautifully set out for our afternoon tea. Very pretty venue but cold. We had to go find somebody to get more hot water and coffee. The staff that we saw were lovely but they were quite sparse. Nobody came to ask if we needed anything else we had to go and find them. The afternoon tea itself was good.
We stayed a week ago and had a great time. From the warm welcome through to checking out we felt very well looked after. The roaring fire in the lobby set the tone, and we thoroughly enjoyed our junior suite "Melrose", with complimentary whisky and Arran Aromatics toiletries. Dinner was exceptional, and please do try their special recipe sausages for breakfast. It is expensive, but well worth it.
My partner and I stayed here for two nights while visiting relatives in Peebles. We unexpectedly had our small dog with us owing to a change of plans and after a warm welcome at reception we were told that this was no problem at all. Our room was on the third floor, easily accessible by the speedy lift. The restricted head height (we are both tall) was easily mitigated by the gorgeous view from our little period window, complete with original wooden shutters. The thick frost on the second morning looked wonderful from here! My only reservation was that the two single mattresses on the superking bed were not of the 'zipped together' kind, which is not particularly comfortable unless a couple wishes to sleep well apart! I had phoned in advance to request a good range of vegetarian and goats cheese-free food for the one night when we dined here and was utterly delighted at the response. My meal was the best I have had in any UK hotel, and that is praise indeed from a lifelong vegetarian. Special thanks to Cameron for his attention to detail in making this happen and to the chef. My partner, a meat and fish eater, said his food was the best he's ever had in Scotland. We dined with a visiting relative from Peebles who can't wait to return with more of her family to try this wonderful place. Breakfast was excellent, including many vegetarian options. The grounds are delightful, especially when one has a dog to walk morning and night. We loved it, and hope to be back before too long.
