If you like to experience how the noble men would have lived, check out the Cringletie House! The location is just splendid with nice hills all around it. The house itself is build in a really romantic style. The inside looks very authentic and gives you an idea how it was like in the past. The entrance shows a great wooden hallway. It has only 14 rooms, so you almost feel like you have the house for yourself. The staff is really warm hearthed and welcoming. The room was really romantic. It was in an authentic style, which you would normally totally dislike, but it fits perfect in this setting. You can have a drink in the saloon with a view on the surrounding hills. The dining room is just lovely with a beautifull painting on the ceiling and lots of authentic elements. The food was reasonably. It is presented in gastronomic style and it succeeds in presentation. The flavours were the part that makes it reasonable instead of good. The waiters were really friendly and the overall dining feeling was very luxurious and special. I can just tell one flaw. They turn of the heating between two and six in the morning, what let us shivering in the cold. After a phonecall with the reception the turned the heating back on and was the problem solved. I would definitely recommend Cringlety house! I will surely take my dad there as a surprise.
Stayed two nights with friends and enjoyed the hotel amenities very much. The reception staff were polite and efficient as against being warm and welcoming. The public rooms are well maintained and the log fire smell permeates wonderfully throughout the building. Bedroom was clean and comfortable but I'm not keen on a shower where you have to stand in the bath. Food was very good, nicely presented, innovative, tasty and good value for money, pity it was the same menu both nights.Reasonably interesting wine list but exceptionally high profit margins, and they ran out of two wines during our stay. Hotel is in a stunning location with access to wonderful walks in the extensive grounds.
Our last visit, on my birthday was a pleasure. Portions were adequate. This visit, with friends, was close to being insulting. We were all very disappointed and left feeling hungry. Even the service was not as good. Guests arrived but then had to seek out a member of staff to seat them. We wanted to settle our bill and also had to seek out a staff member to help us with that. The food tasted fine but we won't now be back because of the rediculous portions.
I visited on Mother’s Day and from arrival we were deeply disappointed with our entire experience. On reflection I feel it necessary to let you know of our concerns as I did not want to make a fuss on the day in front of my Mother. On arrival at 1.30 pm our booking had appeared to have been cancelled by someone called “Cammie” this led to a wait on a table being set for us. The staff appeared to be laughing at yet another “Cammie” error whilst prolonging our wait I did not find it funny and made us feel incredibly uncomfortable. When seated in the restaurant it became apparent that our table was a table for 2 but there were 3 of us. I wonder what would have resulted if our party had been the original 4 covers? The Mothers Day menu sounded delicious and having dined with you on several occasions we did not hesitate to book again. However, the presentation and portion sizes had no continuity and to be perfectly honest, lukewarm. I appreciate that you were busy on Sunday, however I feel this should not have made a difference to our experience. The staff although several of them were not as attentive as normal, which for such a special day like Mothers Day was upsetting. A lovely touch being given 2 small bottles of Prosecco but it was the way they were put down on the table with no explanation or a mention of Mothers Day Wishes. I’m not normally a complainer but what’s concerning me more is the fact that we’ve purchased gift vouchers and I worry that the service we received will be replicated to our friends and family. I have previously emailed on two separate occasions but heard nothing so decided to write a letter , 1 week on I’ve still not had a response. Maybe a review on here may prompt a response.
This was an excellent experience from start to finish. The staff were a standout of our stay. They epitomise the meaning of the word hospitable. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were very engaging and approachable. The food was also some of the best we have eaten and the menu was varied enough to enjoy over a number of meals. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. Thanks for a great weekend.
Almost two years ago I approached Cringletie House as a venue to deliver a professional training course. From the first moment Jeremy and his team could not do enough for us. From putting together a suitable package to meet the budget to providing all the peripherals one needs (screen, projector, flip chart etc that is often charged extra at more corporate venues), free wifi, electric car charging points, endless refreshments and utmost flexibility in terms of late notice changes, the staff at Cringletie House have been amazing. The quality of the food is second to none. It has been that good that I have returned on several occasions as a private guest to enjoy their menu; they simply deliver some of the best food that I have eaten ever, let alone in the Scottish Borders, and at very competitive prices. We are now returning for a special 65th birthday where the chef has put together a unique tasting menu and wine matching - this sort of personal service is another example of how the staff go the extra mile to ensure that you are catered for rather than just being 'another guest'. The hotel setting is stunning with banks of flowers in the spring/summer, lawn croquet, garden giant jenga, walks and stunning views making an ideal location for a slightly more special 'away day', meeting, occasion or wedding. If you have a special occasion, or just fancy some amazing food without having to travel into Edinburgh and at a very reasonable price then Cringletie House provides a superb option.
As part of our 40th wedding anniversary year we were given the present of a voucher for Cringletie's 'Tasty Sunday'. The House is a short way up a drive off the Edinburgh to Peebles road. We were warmly greeted and pleased to find ourselves upgraded to the cosy Glentress room which had good views overlooking the grounds and across the valley. The dinner was seven courses preceded by canapes. Several courses were served with wines from France, Germany and Chile. Enjoyable dinner served by friendly staff. The following morning the traditional Scottish breakfast was excellent and filled us up for the rest of the day.
We booked this hotel on a special deal through a website for 2 nights with dinner bed & breakfast. First reaction when we drove up to the hotel was "WOW" absolutely stunning views. The receptionist on checking-in was very friendly and helpful. We opted for a luxury room and was not disappointed. It was very roomy and had lovely décor, and the views were stunning! Amenities were spot on. Usually on these types of deals the dinner is restrictive and sometimes boring - but not this time. A good choice and the food was amazing. Delicious & well cooked (just a little comment in that we both felt the salmon main was a little on the small side for a main dish, and lacked vegetables but was very nice indeed). On the second night we opted for the steak which was absolutely divine - one of the nicest steaks I've had. Onto breakfast. A good variety to choose from. We opted for the Traditional Scottish which was very hearty and & cooked to perfection. We would like to give a special mention to the waiting staff who were very friendly and attentive for both dinner & breakfast. This is a beautiful hotel which we would highly recommend and would most definitely stay again. I wish I could it 10 stars!
We have stayed here several times over the past few years, previous was Nov 17, for a birthday party. This time we booked every room for a 2 day reunion party. At the time of booking we didn't expect the amazing snow we had. Jeremy and Gwen were so helpful and accommodating because of the constant changes caused by the difficulties most people had in getting there, the event went like clockwork with great service from Cammie, Mark and Adam and not to forget the chef Sabrina and crew. The staff even helped push cars up the drive and shovel snow. Rooms were lovely as usual and food amazing. Thanks for looking after us so well even had to stay an extra day, what a place to be snowed in. We also celebrated our national day St David's day and chef had cooked Welsh cakes and lava bread, the flag flew outside while we were there.
