Want to be treated like family? Then, Residential Sete Cidades in Ponta Delgada, Azores is the hotel for you. Right from the moment we entered the lobby, we were treated like family come home to visit rather than like a visitor. Up popped a head from behind the desk, smiling face and all. Before we could give her our reservation number, she welcomed us by calling out my name. Then she proceeded to give all sorts of information; breakfast the next morning, restaurants nearby, car rental and much, much more. The room is spacious enough not to get in each other’s way. Free WIFI and plasma TV will keep you occupied and informed during downtime. Bathroom facilities come with a powerful showerhead that makes you want to stay a little longer. But don’t. Ponta Delgada has too much to offer! The hotel itself is situated in a most convenient place. Close enough for a comfortable 10 minute walk to the centre yet far enough away to enjoy peace and quiet. Want something different from what is offered on the breakfast menu? Then ask and it will be provided the next day. And the next day, as well. Our request for boiled eggs to be added to their already extensive variety was readily supplied. The airport shuttle drops you off right at the doorstep and picks you up with time to spare for your return flight. Even Antonio, the shuttle driver, greets and treats you like family while you are in his company. Nothing is too much for them to answer or do for you. When you leave, it will be with a longing to return very soon!
Older property well situated in the town, it is just a short walk to everything in town. The rooms are clean, although the furniture looks a little beat up; the bathroom, too, is clean, although some of the shower fixtures are in need of repair. Our room had twin beds and there was enough room for the two of us and the desk and chair as well as another chair. There is also a wardrobe to store luggage; even without using it, the room did not feel crowded. The shower tiles and bathroom floor were in good condition as were the toilet and bidet. The shower fixture was a bit sad – we could not get the shower head to stay in position to rinse so had to resort to using it as a handheld sprayer. Soaps and shampoo were provided. We were a little dismayed to see the orange towels against the black tiles, as a cruel reminder of the terrible season for the SF Giants, but understand that it was not intentional ! On the positive side - the staff were kind enough to allow us to checkin upon our arrival at around 7am, so it was nice to shower after the red eye flight to get adjusted to the time change. And, we did not hear any street noise (we were in Room 311). The breakfast was simple but delicious – cheese and ham, cereal, yogurt, fruit salad, machine to make coffee to order, hot tea thermos, good variety of breads and jams and a few kinds of cookies. On the down side – the wifi stopped working intermittently, probably due to being overloaded. It was also very hot during the day (and humid) so the room got hot even with the shutters …. The only cooling device was a fan; there was no air conditioning. I’m not sure how to cope during the summer as I’m sure the room would be unbearable; without screens on the window, keeping it open at night probably would not be a good option. At least the shutters filtered out the bugs. There is a lift to all floors, although you’ll have to carry your luggage up about a half flight. Reasonable price in the city within convenient walking distance of everything …
Room comfy, shower great, room tidied and fresh if you request maid to clean room.. Service throughout friendly and helpful, food always fresh and well presented. Good ,location as only short walk to marina and and local shops, restaurants etc. 20 minutes from airport but no disturbance from planes overhead at all.
We stayed here for 2 weeks. We were lucky enough to get a room from 3rd floor with balcony with view over the city and sea. Breakfast was basic, fresh bread and fruit salad, some cheeses etc. Rooms could be cleaner but overall it was okay as well. The cleaner cleaned our room every day (except for the toilet which started to smell a bit after 2 weeks..). Beds were almost rock hard, we asked if they have softer ones and they said no, but we saw different mattresses in the hallway when the cleaner was cleaning other rooms! (And they were softer.) Unfortunately, few nights during our stay, there were staying some youngsters who were VERY loud, running aroud in the middle of the night. We called to reception as we were told to do (this was the second time similar group made too much noise), but the man in the reception desk did not understand ANY english so it was a bit annoying to put clothes on and go to the reception desk in the middle of the night and try to explain the situation by mimicking :( He understood my complaint face-to-face and told to the youngsters be silent. There was also a bit noise from the traffic, but it didn't bother us too much. Staff were friendly and very helpful, I just wish they all could speak some english, which was not the case this time. After all, I can recommend this place if you're a budget traveller and you can stand occassional noise!
We spent 9 nights at this hotel in early March. There is daily maid service and the rooms are spotless. The beds are comfortable. The staff at the front desk and the staff in the breakfast room are very friendly. It's true the walls are thin and you sometimes hear the t.v. in another room but we had no trouble sleeping because it was very quiet at night. The view from the rooftop terrace is amazing .Table and chairs provided so you can sit and enjoy. The breakfast was adequate. The bread delicious and the cheese very tasty. We would not hesitate to book this hotel again in the future.
We rented a car to explore the island & this hotel had free parking, which was partly the reason we chose it.The location is very central to the restaurants & we walked to a different one every night. It was also a good base to set off from when exploring the rest of the island. The rooms were basic, which didn't bother us too much (you get what you pay for) and it was a clean room. The major down side was the noise!! The walls were so thin you could hear the tv from the adjoining rooms. Also we had a room looking into the street, so we also got woken up early from the street noise!!
We had a great experience at the Residencial Sete Cidades! The staff went abive and beyond. We flew in early in the day and they gave us a temp room to shower and rest until our actual room was ready. Not only that, but they helped out with every aspect of our stay, whether it was booking tours, making dinner reservations or arranging transportation or general info about Ponta Delgada: Here is a rating breakdown of the room and hotel amenities and service: Customer Service: Excellent Room Cleanliness: Excellent Shower Pressure & Hot Water Availability: Excellent Location: Excellent Mattress Comfort: Satisfactory Noise Level: Quiet Breakfast: Not Great
I went one week in Ponta Delgada and stayed at Recidencial Sete Cidades. The Recidencial is a short walk to town and marina as well as the botanical parks. Next door there is a bakery opened almost 24/7. Minimarkets, bars, cafes and shops are not far. The Recidencial offers simple and daily cleaned accommodation and 24/7 reception. My room was ensuite without balcony, daily soap bars and shampoo and fresh towels were provided. Room size was conformable. TV (various languages channels) and free WIFI. The terrace on top the roof has to be visited: it offers fantastic view of the Ponta Delgada. A lift is available in the building. My booking included breakfast, once again it was simple cold continental buffet style breakfast (eat as much you like) very yummy... Azorean butter, cheeses and yoghurts are really nice! I speak Portuguese and staff has been very nice to me and helpful. They also speak English. They also helped to arrange 2 x 1 day tours of the island. I loved so much Sao Miguel Island that I already booked another week in May 2017. Furnas and Sete Cidades must see!
Family of 4 adults so 2 double rooms booked for 3 nights. Location of hotel was very good, 5-10 minute walk into town. Front of house staff very helpful, remainder we came across just didn't appear to want to be there. Breakfast was the worst we have experienced in any hotel we've stayed in for 20 years plus. Rooms were very basic and crucially with no air conditioning which made our stay unpleasant as with windows open there is too much noise. Fan provided in room is not powerful enough to have any impact. Hotel looks like it's stuck in the 70's. But here's the rub. We paid approx £23 pppn including breakfast so what more could we expect? For all its faults the hotel was basically clean and gave us a decent base to explore Ponta Delgada. It's obvious that major investment is needed but with the prices being charged by a budget hotel that is never going to happen. My tip is to scale down your expectations, accept that you're probably getting a good deal if you're on a tight budget and enjoy the beautiful island.
The location is great for the centre of Ponte Delgado. There's not much else going for this hotel. Rooms are outdated. Breakfast is at best chaotic and at worst second rate. And this is the main thing ; because there's no air con in the rooms you have to sleep with the windows open. But the noise from the street is continuous through the night.
