We stayed for 5 nights, and found the desk team really welcoming ,we were lucky enough to get the last room on the 9th floor , so we were semi detached as such, so neighbouring rooms did not bother us with noise as in previous reviews, the breakfast was lovely loads of choice and no queuing the team in the breakfast room were lovely. The downstairs restaurant was another case however, we tried our best to speak Spanish as it is polite, but the staff were rude ,also the food was not the best. My husband left his whole meal as it was not to his taste, the waitress took it away without even enquiring what was wrong. What a shame this restaurant gave the hotel a bad name.
Santemar hotel is nice hotel placed close to Santander's casino and Sardinero beach. The romos are quite old-fashioned but it is very confortable and staff is really kind. Close to this hotel there are a lot of bars and restaurant where you can have a break and enjoy from really good meal.
Yes nothing changes but it is so well run its not necessary, No major problem with this place, Always spotless good staff from the desk to housekeeping. The restaurant staff in the ground floor restaurant truly excellent. Some of the local dishes may not suit the UK travellers palate But thats personal taste. Underground parking, good location.
My husband and I stayed here on stop over before travelling on to our destination near Potes. We had booked a double room but were disappointed when allocated a twin room. Whilst it served our purpose in fact that it was immaculately clean and comfortable, similarly like other guests have stated we found it to be slightly noisy due to inadequate sound proofing. Rooms are large but all conform to similar layout. Air con, room service provided, hairdryer and mini bar. Advise against using any items from their 'mini bar' as prices are grossly extortionate as husband found out , £2.50 euros for a packet of chewing gum! Conveniently situated and handy on site parking were a bonus and staff were friendly and efficient. Pleasant enough for stopover or long weekend but not for duration of say a two week holiday.
Very well located. Old fashion kind of "luxury", marble all over the place :). But big rooms, nice bathrooms and showers, very clean and tidy. Very good selection for breakfast, really really good. Underground parking available but you have to pay for it.
The hotel is well placed and easy access to the beach and surrounding areas, about 5minutes walk. Our room was large, double bed,but also had 2 armchairs and a table to sit at. A.C, Fridge stocked ( $ ), electronic safe in room (not large enough for laptop ), laundry service ( $ ), wifi free, bathroom supplies, 200v electricity, need a converter. Cafeteria and restaurant on site. Room service available. Buisiness Centre and Corner Gym (10 meeting rooms ). Garage parking €12/day. Bicycles for rent and taxi service 24h. There are adapted rooms available for the handicapped and no pets except for guide dogs. If you enjoy the Casino, then you can walk to it, 5minutes down the road.
Stayed one night in September. Staff friendly. Hotel location good being very near the sea front. Room fine and had comfortable sleep. Price at €60 was OK but extra €14 for breakfast was a bit of a rip off as it turned out. The hotel boasts parking facilities and these were the hundreds of free spaces on the streets around. Unfortunately there were even more hundreds of cars looking for a space so not easy to find one close to the hotel - and this was not high season. The hotel is a huge cavernous cement monstrosity. Vast open areas in the reception area but very few chairs or even benches to sit down. It reminded me of the massive Moscow hotels in the Soviet era. Far too many guests for the number of lifts provided. Long waits at key times especially if you've been allocated a room on the higher floors. The gym is small with just five machines. The breakfast was pretty grim. The plate of fried eggs looked as though they had been in last weeks war games. And lost!! Hard, shrivelled, greasy, broken yolks. The jams available were not in open jars but in tightly packed little containers where you needed an engineering degree to work out how to reveal the gluttonous jelly inside which may or may not have seen a grain of real fruit at some points- probably not. All the cooked stuff from bacon to potatoes lay under a thick sludge of fat. And again you were lucky to find a table if you came down at peak time. If someone had asked me to design a hotel in the most mind numbing boring way possible with no atmosphere whatsoever and miles to walk or hours to wait for the elevators I'd say it's already been done. The Santemar in Santander. If you arrive late and just want a good nights sleep before an early morning ferry then you'll be fine. But don't book a fortnight's holiday here is my advice.
This hotel is located a stone's throw from the El Sardinero Beach and the promenade. It's a bit of a walk to the Magdalena Peninsula with its park and palace, but it's a good way to get some exercise. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, although a bit dated in decoration (a little on the dark, heavy side). The AC worked beautifully, although it wasn't really needed when we were there in mid-August. I would recommend that travelers NOT get a room with an adjoining suite because, depending on your neighbors, sound can easily travel between the two rooms. We were cursed by a pair of women whose conversation at 7 am was appropriate for a couple of fishmongers in the village market. The hotel staff was very quick in getting us another room without the suite connection. They were very friendly and helpful about other details, such as local attractions. There are some good restaurants and cafes across the street from the hotel with a wide range of tapas and combination plates (platos combinados). There is one that stays open all day, a plus since some Spanish restaurants close the kitchen down at 3:30 pm and don't open again until around 5 o 6 pm.
A good value hotel, near all the seaside facilities, but lacked any charm or character, staff were efficient and professional, but an odd smile would help, overall we got what we paid for but it could have been a lot better with with some effort on the hotel's behalf
We enjoyed this hotel very much. Very close to a lovely promenade and easy to take the local bus into the centre of the town. As it is the capital of the province, it has a character all of its own and doesn't exist solely as a ferry terminal. A very pleasant place to spend a few days.
