My experience with this hotel was "Meh". Our room was tiny and the floors were FILTHY, but the bathrooms were quite nice, having been newly renovated. However, the toilet would not flush on its own, unless you let it sit for 10-15 minutes. We ended up filling the garbage bucket with water and using that to flush the toilet, instead. I did see several other rooms which were MUCH larger and nicer, so I don't know why we got such a lacking one. The hotel itself was nice, with the two selling points being a roof-deck with a "pool" and a complementary breakfast. The pool is tiny, maybe containing the dimensions of 8 feet by 15 feet (without exaggeration) and the breakfast, while tasty, was served by one very overwhelmed waitress. We had to ask for juice, water, or coffee half several times, before giving up. The staff was also very amenable, giving us directions and helping us book taxis as needed. If you do visit this hotel, expect to be neither impressed nor disappointed.
All started when I got a room that had no tv and no hot water, tried to contact the reception but didn't get any helpful response just "sorry sir there is nothing we can do" come on... after that I had bad bugs that seriously got my skin to itch, what a dirty place, the guy and the girl in the reception laughed at me when I asked for discount due to that, what a shame... stay away!!
Everything about our stay at Casa de Farol was excellent. Breakfast is served in an appealing garden setting by friendly staff. The rooftop pool and lounge are a great place to unwind and enjoy views of Old Santa Marta. Lovely colonial architecture with ceilings that must have been around 5m. Staff was helpful with every inquiry about attractions, transit, etc. If you are sensitive to noise or light and like to sleep in, you may want an eye mask and ear plugs.
Staff is super friendly and helpful. When we returned after a hard week of trekking they surprised us with an upgrade. We hated to leave.
Perfect location in the center of Santa Marta, helpful staff, and great comfortable rooms. Good breakfast and rooftop terrace. Can't go wrong!!!
