    About this property

Beautiful & Peaceful Lakefront Home in the Woods W/canoe, Kayaks & Hammocks

Loon’s Nest is truly a peaceful country setting in central Maine. Located on Center Pond, it is “The Way Life Should Be” with gorgeous sunsets and 125’ of pristine water frontage. It is a clean and beautiful, lakeside, “timber built home” with all wood interior that proudly displays “old world craftsmanship.” It is well maintained, very comfortable and calming with plenty of room for all. It has been newly furnished with exquisite and thoughtful touches throughout, including high-end furniture and appliances. A true gem in the heart of nature that offers all the comforts of home (including WiFi) and some extras! * First floor: Master has a charming wood stove near the Amish king bed w/adjustable base to raise head/feet to your liking. A large window lets you wake up to the beautiful lake view to start your day off right, which also allows for the harmony and gentle symphony of crickets, owls, bullfrogs and the mystical sounds of loons in at night. Indulge in catching up with some reading or just rest, unwind and enjoy a nap in the power recliner w/optional heat, adjustable headrests, and rolling back massagers, outlooking the picturesque window onto the lake. Master also has a 65” 4K smart TV w/sound bar & 4K Blu-Ray dvd player as well as a convenient door that opens to the back porch. Master bath features a jacuzzi tub w/plenty of jets and partial seat built in to the side. Living room offers a leather sofa that has a pullout queen bed & upgraded mattress. All wood with cathedral ceilings and large windows to let plenty of light in with gorgeous views of the lake. The magnificent stone fireplace invites you to build warm and cozy memories as you snuggle with loved ones. There are several indoor board games for the evenings. Oil is the main source of heat with convenient thermostats for those chilly months. Updated kitchen has everything you would expect & more for all of your cooking/serving needs w/stainless steel appliances* and easy pull out shelves to facilitate storage & reaching pots, pans, and smaller appliances. Appliances/extras: (2) XL pots for cooking lobsters, crock pot, Instant Pot/Quick Pot (rice cooker/steamer/etc.), bread maker, 4-slice toaster, coffee grinder, espresso machine & tamper, coffee pot (dark, French roast beans are complimentary), electric kettle. Theater style popcorn machine (popcorn is complimentary). Home is supplied w/water from private well & whole house filter. Second floor: Queen bedroom has an adjustable base w/a massaging (more like vibrating) option and charging ports on both sides, a 43” smart TV w/Blu-Ray/dvd player, a comfortable rocking chair, two skylights, and a Juliet balcony. Twin room has a daybed, a trundle bed, 42” smart TV w/DVD player, and one skylight. Both rooms have railings and overlook the living room. Please be extra careful in stockings on the stairs. Outside: 💐 Back porch features rustic rockers & zero gravity chairs. Off the back porch are: a gas grill, a Traeger smoker/grill, and two picnic tables. (Wood chips for the gas grill and pellets for the Traeger are complimentary and in the basement.) You’ll find three “stacking racks” in the kitchen to be used in the “Traeger” for larger quantities of “ribs” so that juices and sauce do not drip off. Outdoor lawn games include; croquet, lawn darts, corn hole and frisbee. The fire pit at the water’s edge is a perfect place to gather around and bond with loved ones to better connect with family and nature. It has a large grill for over the fire cooking or leave the grill off & just roast some renown “Maine red hot dogs” or marshmallows to make s’mores ( plenty of roasting sticks are provided ). In the mornings, the mirror like lake reflects the sunrise and foliage with the fragrant smells of nature. The evenings reflect God’s glory in the moon and stars, with the sound of crickets, fish jumping and the majestic loons. Interested in “flying” into tourist mode? Make this your peaceful home “nest” to come back to after a day of serious shopping at the outlet stores in Bangor (45 min. drive, where Steven King lives) or Kittery (3 hr drive), a trip through Acadia National Park & visit to Bar Harbor (just over 2 hr drive), or head to Greenville & Moosehead Lake (51 min drive), Maine’s largest lake, beautiful, & moose outnumber people 3:1! Do some hiking, sightseeing tours/flights (try a moose safari) or some other summertime fun activities (whitewater rafting gets our vote)! Wild Acadia fun park is another great place to take the children. There are several “U-pick” farms in the area for seasonal, organic produce. Leave for day trips and come back to relax & recharge at the peaceful “nest,” or enjoy your entire vacation here to unwind, play and rest; escape the stresses and pace of a busy life. Pack in your food with a favorite bottle of wine and you may find it difficult to go out to dinner or step away from the beauty and tranquility that this home offers. Paddle or row the canoe (3 person) or take a kayak (1 single and one tandem) out to fish (4 poles provided) or skip the fishing and just soak up the calming beauty, day or night. Have fun in the clean and clear water on any of the several floaty lake toys. Two hammocks in the yard for outdoor leisure and naps, one has mosquito netting and doubles as a two person hanging chair swing. If you’re an early riser, you may just see a moose—we have! (Dawn & dusk are the best times of day to see them—we’ve seen moose twice on our road, less that a half mile away!) The gravel road is just over 2 miles and is wonderful for beautiful and quite, peaceful walks, jogging or bicycles. We often see chipmunks, rabbits and deer during the day and with a flashlight, you may spot a porcupine or moose after dark. We have seen moose day and night. The majestic bald eagles, Osprey, turtles, ducks, Great Blue Herons and loons, of course, are regulars on the pond. (If you are interested in bird watching, go a step further & a Sibley’s guidebook for North American birds is on the bookshelf. Swimming is always at your own risk. A home away from home

The owners have 2 goals: that you feel like their home is YOUR home and that you leave feeling that your money was well spent. Complete success on both goals!! My husband and I had never rented a vacation home prior to this rental. I read all of the reviews and then contacted the owners to ask a few additional questions. Martha was the one who always replied and we quickly developed a relationship. Her response was almost immediate and continued to be so each time I contacted her from that point on through the rental several months later. Martha even provided her personal text number well in advance of our arrival. I knew I had found owners who truly wanted us to have the best vacation possible when they even agreed to put in a landline due to us knowing we would not have cell phone service and that our elderly relatives did not have computers and lived 50 miles away. I am positive that no other owners would have ever done this for us. Upon entering the home, we were swept away by the beautiful lake view just from standing in the entryway. As we entered the home and checked out every room we marveled at the beauty of the views from all of the rooms but also the decor. The furnishings and decorations were so beautiful. It looked just like a beautiful log home in the woods of Maine should look. We had visitors every day of our stay and everyone was blown away by the beauty of the home and lake. As for our stay itself, it could not have been any better. The kitchen was equipped with EVERYTHING a cook could possibly need. The living room had plenty of very comfortable seating as well as a beautiful stone fireplace which we used every night. The bathrooms were fully stocked with big fluffy towels. The master bedroom had an adjustable mattress so comfortable that we asked the owner where she bought it since we liked it much more than our adjustable bed at home. As for the lake, it was a perfectly calm and peaceful place to be. There is a tree line on both sides of the property so you never hear the neighbors and can barely see their property. It is as though you are totally alone. During our stay we saw a bunny outside our front door, deer on the property road and loons on the lake. On the day we left, we were both very sad to leave. If the owners would sell, we would buy it since it is exactly what we are looking for as a summer/fall home. Rest assured that ifyou stay there, you will fall in love with Loon's Nest, too.

        5/5 Excellent

          Very relaxing

The house was much more than we expected. Very well supplied and the fire wood was definitely a bonus. Hoping to make it back next year.

          5/5 Excellent

            Excellent Place to Stay!

The Loon's nest may be one of the nicest places we have every stayed. The home is lovely and the post & beam construction is amazing to look at while relaxing in any of the rooms. Every comfort from home was provided and then some! From the massage chair to the amazing adjustable beds, flat screen TVs, DVDs, and the coffee in the cabinets, this place was amazing. The kids loved all of the yard games, kayaks and the canoe. The owners have really thought of everything and their willingness to share it is incredible. We hope to stay again sometime!

            5/5 Excellent

              Lovely, Just Lovely

We stayed at Loon's Nest in August 2019. The house was beyond gorgeous. Lots of open space. Sparkling clean from top to bottom. The furnishings, linens, kitchen...all top notch. Love the are and the fact that it is a bit out of the way. Very quite area. Lots of outdoor games provided. Took full advantage of the water all week as the weather was great. There was not a lot of boat traffic - and we were completely okay with that. Lots of wildlife to watch. The Osprey hunted at this end of the pond every morning and evening. It was amazing watching them dive at the water after fish. There is also a bald eagle nest at the far end of the pond so we so those majestic creatures quite often. There is also a resident bunny that visited the yard. The water is shallow so there are a fair number of plants at this end of the pond. We spend more time ON the water, rather than IN, so the bit of mud around this end of the shore and dock didn't matter so much to us. Not a problem if you have water shoes. We've rented a house of some sort on the water in Maine every summer for the last 10 years. This house tops them all!

              5/5 Excellent

                Gem of a getawaay

Lovely house, very comfortable, clean and very nice touches supplied by the owners as noted in the extensive property write up (our expectations where high based on the write up and the home surpassed them). We had a wonderful time mixing relaxation on the property and enjoying the lake, lovely kitchen and home amenities and venturing out on hikes and for an occasional meal out. It was a long drive from our home in Brooklyn, but we would definitely want to come back. This was a wonderful place to stay- thanks for the wonderful memories our famlily made at your lovely home..
