Pelican Eyes Resort and Spa

Overall the hotel is nice and the architecture is beautiful. Our villa was very nice but the beds and pillows were harder than a rock and we got very little sleep because of it. The staff was nice but not on point for being a 4 star hotel. We had to ask the staff 3 times for eveything. The 3 times we went to the pool they were out of towels and once didn't have ice. We had breakfast included but every morning they tried to charge us. Last but not least they organized a boat ride for us to go fishing and swimming but it was a total sham. We felt we got ripped off and my husband is charter captain in Florida so we know how it works. All in all, I would never stay here again.

A great hotel for the end of our trip in nicaragua - perfect for relaxation and comfort. Close to the town and beach. Staff was extremely helpful!

The hotel staff was excellent, the room spacious and beautiful and the view breathtaking. Anyone who visits San Juan del Sur should exeprience the Pelican Eyes.Certainly one of the best hotel stays I have ever experienced.

BE CAREFUL THAT YOU ARE GIVEN A ROOM YOU PAID FOR AND NOT ONE THAT IS SIMPLY READY (CLEANED) we PAID FOR A 2 BEDROOM 2 STORY ACCOMADATONS AND WERE TO RECIEVE A ONE BATHROOM SUITE ...UNTIL WE "PUSHED THE ISSUE.

The hotel is located on top of a hill overlooking the horseshoe beach of San Juan del Sur. the view from the rooms is amazing, especially the sunset. All the rooms are in stand alone cabins, with kitchen and a porch. The rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. Good wifi. There are two enterinity pools, the upper pool has even better view. Few drawbacks: spa services have short operating hours; resort has multiple stairs, which might be challenging for some (hotel offers a shuttle service to the upper pool); there are tons of ants and other bugs in the room (expected being so close to nature), we also saw few small geckos.

Hotel truly is a Paradise in a great eco friendly country that Nicaragua is. Facilities are great as are food and drinks. Service is super and staff wants to make sure you enjoy their country.

Great view with a very accommodating staff. Transportation provided for a minimal fee, and very helpful setting up anything you wanted to do. We took advantage of the sailboat for a very reasonable charge and had a great time sailing to another beach, swimming, and sailing back at sunset. The staff was great on the boat, and we had a nice time talking with them and laughing, enjoying the day.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We were a family of 26, ranging from 7 to 89 years. The staff was really terrific, the hotel was beautiful, and the restaurant fantastic. Only recommendation would be to request a room around one of the pools. There are a lot of steps and otherwise, the room could be remote. The best place to stay in San Juan. Highly recommended.

Only cleaned room twice in four days. Only left shampoo once. Way, way, way too many steps. Pools were not clean. They let outside people use pool for $5 a day although you are paying a minimum of $200 a day to stay there. Drinks are US prices and had ants in them and my husband had to pour his out. You had to fight ants for your food. Any food you bought had to be kept in refrig. Would not stay there again.

The hotel is very dsconnected, with multiple entrances to different parts of the property connected by a "public road" with gates. Services and pool space is very limited. They allow non-guests in to the resort to use the facilities and receive complimentary drinks for a very small fee, which is unfair to the real paying gusets of the resort. The car service that they provide to get around the property and into town was very responsive.and timey.. Beatiful view from room. Booked the sailboat tour, but was cancelled due to too much wind. Was Dissapointed....

We were greeted warmly and check in was OK. We got some cold towels to clean our faces and others received welcome drinks. We had some issues with our A/C. The Pina Coladas at the Pool were nice (go non-dairy). The spa was beautiful (double check your booking). The show on Wednesday is fun. Drinks are supposed to be half off. We had some hiccups but were compensated appropriately by the manager. We will definitely be back! It is beautiful and the plentiful staff is attentive.

While the Pelican delivers great service and a stunning location, there are a few things to keep in mind with this hotel: 1. There are A LOT of stairs. You will be walking up and down outdoor stairs wherever you go. 2. The hotel needs a large-scale capital improvement project - as it's starting to get down. For example, many of the bricks in the stairs/walkways have been hollowed-out and are easy to trip on. Also, many outdoor lightbulbs were not replaced. Same principle goes for the rooms. 3. As in anywhere in this part of Nicaragua, there is a daily battle to keep critters out. For our trip, this included mosquitos, spiders, (large) ants, and even a small mouse that was able to slip under the door. Despite what I've written above, I would still marginally recommend the Pelican as it's one of the nicest hotels in SJDS.

Everything was great but no hot water for the shower.
