Surfer Beach Hotel

My daughter and I stayed for a 4 day girls getaway. The hotel is old but it's decent--nothing fancy but great location literally steps from the beach. It's clean and our room had a great view of the ocean. The staff were all super friendly and helpful with tips on where to eat etc. PARKING however is tricky. There are about 15 free spaces (shared with the hotel next door) and they are on a first come, first served basis. You can park for 72 hours in the free zone IF you can grab a space. The hotel has a very good and safe parking lot that is part of the hotel BUT they charge $17 per night. That part isn't advertised on their web site.

We enjoyed our stay here, however it is very noisy due to the restaurant next door. They started at 4:30 or 5:00 am every day unloading, and slamming doors.

Fantastic location on the beach and boardwalk. Beautiful sunset views from our bed was priceless. Watching the surfers in the morning from our balcony and people watching all day long. The only down side's of our stay was no central heater or air conditioning and the elevator is extremely slow

for an older hotel it was in o.k. condition. It has a great location and the staff are very friendly.

This was our first trip to SD. Hotel was great. Perfect view of the ocean and close to everything we wanted to go to. Hotel staff was very helpful!

The location is great but the hotel is extremely dated and not kept up at all! The carpet must be original and is very dirty. The rooms were small and the bathrooms were as well! The beds were ok. The hotel is designed for young people who like to party NOT for a family. I cannot stress enough how dirty the rooms were. This hotel should be rated a two at best!

Hotel rooms are very dirty and need allot of work!

This hotel is in mediocre condition and not a great choice for a business traveler. Hotel staff are friendly and very helpful. On the other hand if you are looking to be right on the beach and love to walk along the ocean this is an ideal location. Restaurants are within a quick walk and driving to spots in San Diego is simple. For young people, those roughing it, and those who love the beach I can recommend this hotel, but know that the furniture is old, rugs worn and bathrooms in need of updating.

Hotel is right on beach. The rooms facing the beach do not have AC. Which is fine if you leave door open, you get a great breeze. Not so good for sleeping where room got above 80. When we complained. We were moved to a room with ac with less of a view for more money. AC was a portable unit that got the room to about 74 so you could sleep. Staff tried to accommodate. It was with in walking distance of lots of things so that was convenient. wifi was spotty at best

Great staff, worth payig a little extra for a room with a view

Great local spot. Older hotel, but awesome beach views. Spent every morning watching the surfers.

Great walkability to all the local bars, restaurants and the beach is right out your back door! The staff was absolutely wonderful! Will definitely stay again.

the hotel is old, outdated, but the staff and location made it a good choice for us!!

The hotel is aged, large size room. They upgraded us to family suite for $30.00 more. The room has everything we needed. Frig, bar sink, microwave, coffee pot. Complimentary coffee and microwaveable popcorn. The balcony is spacious with beautiful unobstructed view of the ocean. There are earplugs offered if you don't like the roar of the ocean but we kept the sliders open all night. Slept like a baby. Beds very comfortable.Close to everything. The pool is old and small but clean and heated.

Having lived in Pacific Beach, I knew this was a great spot. It's right on the beach, with great shopping, and a short drive or bike ride to Belmont Park or Sea World.

Loved the 4th floor junior suite. Nice size room. Bathroom was a bit small, but overall, loved it. Have been here before and coming again this week! Surfer is my home away from home

Had a really good time at the hotel, it is in prime location, for everything beach, bar, food can't ask for anything else. Wifi was slow but still good.

Perfect location on the beach, exactly what we were looking for in a motel.

Not like the photos. NO AC and its hot!!! Given the option to move downstairs and sleep with the door open and screen locked...its PB...not exactly the safest place for 3 girls to sleep with a door/window wide open. NEVER AGAIN, the place across the street is amazing, go there.

Parking was very limited. Overall, stay was great. Tooh our two Grandsons, 5 and 7. They had a blast. Very close to the Bay. Walking distance to many eateries. Had a great time.

As you pointed out, our Standard Rooms have AC's as they have no access to the fresh ocean breezes. The Ocean View rooms are comfortably cooled by the fresh ocean breezes on all but the warmest days of the year. I am glad that the staff was able to accommodate your needs. Thanks for choosing the Surfer!

I can't agree with you more. We are steps away from the sand and being able to have that ocean view to fall asleep and wake up to is incredible. Thanks for choosing the Surfer!
