Had a couple of problems in the beginning but Todd the night clerk took excellent care of us and fixed everything perfectly.

The staff was super friendly and kind. We got a free upgrade to a king suite to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. We loved the room and the grounds (so much attention to detail!). We asked to see a couple of the villas and other rooms available for the possibility of hosting events later and they were all different and amazing. We loved the location - right across the beach and walking distance from downtown Carlsbad. We will definitely be back and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

The setting was very pretty. There is a choice of pools. The restaraunt on site was good, loved the ambiance.

Hotel location was key....just steps from the beach. Staff was great and the room was clean. Planning on taking a return trip and staying at this hotel again in the coming eeks.

Right next to the beach and super nice!!! We will most certainly be back.

Overall, we were satisfied with our stay. We stayed in the Maui Suite. The hotel grounds were beautiful - a tropical oasis. Our suite was one of the more updated suites but a few things seemed to need attention. The furniture in the master bedroom was kinda beat up. It seemed relatively clean but some items (front of stove and fridge) seemed to need a good wipe down. Our kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The pool (30 people max) and hot tub (6 people) are kinda small but worked for us as not a lot if people were using it when we visited in March. Fire pits (3 of them) were lit every night. - a nice place to gather at the end of the day for a cocktail and conversation and also you can hear the ocean waves crashing on shore. They were working on updating a few of the older rooms - a good thing as I know a few reviewers complained about some rooms needing an update. Might want either a top unit or one without a second floor as we noticed the noise from walking and chairs being moved above us got a little loud a few days into our stay. Hotel is within walking distance to many shops and restaurants. Ocean access is across small road and down some stairs - very close! We would stay again!

We wanted to stay in the heart of Carlsbad and needed handicapped access. The room appeared to be redone recently, but bathroom floor looked like it could have been cleaner and woodwork throughout hotel needed attention. Blanket for pullout couch looked old. The grounds were nice, but the "breakfast" was plastic wrapped danishes and coffee. We enjoyed the pool and ambiance.

We were given a free upgrade to a two-bedroom luxury suite, consisting of a living room, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, and full kitchen. Each bedroom had a large comfortable bed, windows on two sides and a ceiling fan. The bathroom was fully tiled and included a double shower and plenty of towels. The kitchen was amazingly well equipped with appliances, cookware, utensils, and tableware. While there was no private patio or balcony, there were chairs and a small table outside the room where we enjoyed our morning coffee and the sound of the sea. We loved the close beach access during the day and the fire pits at night. Next time we will stay longer and take advantage of more of this resort's offerings.

Went to visit our son who is in the Marines, Great location, they were very help full when we asked for anything! Everything we needed from stores to beaches to dinning were within walking distance. Would come back and stay for sure!

Couch was broken and could not be used as a bed as needed. Would have preferred upstairs view. Fire alarm in room went off twice at 3 am after letting staff know they were malfunctioning. Frustrating. Breakfast as promised in plan was not breakfast. Store purchased danish and an apple or banana.

This hotel was right on the money. The amenities such as fire pits, BBQs, pool and jacuzzi, right at the beach, and all the great landscaping made our trip just perfect. The staff was very friendly and helped out whenever we asked. Can't wait to stay again!!

We requested early check in because our 6 year old was ill. They got our 2 bedroom cleaned asap and Kelly came to the parking lot to find us. We were in our room before noon. Pleasantly surprised with a partial ocean view from both the living room and the front bedroom. The ocean is literally across the street. Ocean access is maybe 50 feet from front door. Downtown Carlsbad is just around the corner. Awesome location. Look forward to our next stay.

This is the third time we've stayed at the ocean palms With our golden doodle. You must love dogs to stay in Carlsbad.

We very much enjoyed our 4 nights and 5 days at the Ocean Palms. The hotel was across the street from the beach, with easy access. The bed was firm, with high quality linens. There were ample towels, plus you could check out oversize beach towels from the front desk as needed. The pool was small, but adequate, as was the hot tub and workout room (though I must admit, it was a marvel of design how much equipment they managed to shoehorn into one fitness room, while still having it all be usable!). The room had a kitchen with a gas stove, full size refrigerator, garbage disposal and enough pots, pans, plates, and utensils to make it easy to fix a meal. If I had to pinpoint any downsides, the first would be that the pictures implied larger rooms. I'm not sure that the pictures shown for the room size we chose weren't for a different room type. Also, the pictures make the pool look bigger than it is (hold a maximum of 30, and that would be crowded, while the hot tub holds a maximum of 6, but has only 4 jets). Secondly, the "breakfast" available consists of a bowl of fruit, a couple of small drawers filled with tiny packaged pastries and coffee. When it was all said and done, I would definitely stay here again if I ever visit the San Diego area, though I would recommend going for one of the larger rooms.

Location was OK but had to park on the street since the parking in front was small. I don't like to park in the back since it's dark and homeless sometimes crossed there. The bed was uncomfortable the tv constantly buzzed and hitting it corrected it mostly. The bathroom toilet sure is small as is the shower. The 1st morning there was a coffee packet but it wasn't replaced by maid so we had to go to the office for a cup of coffee the following days of which the container was usually empty. However the office personnel offered coffee from his office container. We liked the closeness to the beach and the outdoor firepits and BBQ area. We would probably stay at the upgraded suites next time since they looked very modern. The price we paid for our room was was OK.

I stayed one night at the Ocean Palms and it was awesome. The location is perfect. Only a stones throw away from the ocean and you are surrounded by restaurants and bars. Fun stay!!

Had a wonderful romantic Valentine's Day stay. Room was clean and nice but best of all is the location and grounds. Directly across the street from the beautiful beach. Walking distance from restaurants, bars and the great heart of Carlsbad. Staff was wonderful. Booked another stay when we checked out!

Very clean and the location is spectacular. Checking in and parking were a breeze and everything you need is walking distance from your door.

All of the pictures on the O r b i t z site are of great looking rooms. 1 entire building has not been upgraded, and the rooms are awful!!! We walked out and did not stay there. Manager agreed to refund 1 of 2 nights. I would avoid this place or at least check to see what kind of room you are booking.

Perhaps technically, the resort would be 3 star, but the delightful character of the facility definitely earns it FOUR. My wife and I were pleased to be able to celebrate our 50th anniversary here. We had not been back to Carlsbad, where we had lived 2 blocks away 46 years earlier. It was almost perfect for us.
