I chose this hotel for a meeting I had at UCSD and I don't regret it. It gives me the feeling I was in vacation when I was coming back from my meeting. It is so close to the beach that you can go for a swim or a run in the morning. A pleasant surprise.

The hotel suited our needs in location and quality.

With ComicCon and a surfing competition on the same weekend, we had very few choices of where to stay, and even fewer affordable ones. Not only was this one of the least expensive hotels in the area, it turned out to be one of the nicest we've ever stayed in. Our room was huge (later we found out it's the biggest room in the hotel) and very nice, having been recently remodeled. Everything was modern and fresh and comfortable. Staff was excellent and accommodating and made our stay very nice.

Booked this hotel for a short vacation with family. I wanted to be near the ocean which this was, the downside was that the waves at that location were too rough for my 2 y/o to play in. We ended up driving 10-15 minutes to La Jolla Shores where the surf was a lot calmer. They are currently constructing an expansion so have set up valet parking which is really convenient. I hope once the new area is done they will come back and update the older rooms, it would be nice to have quieter, more efficient AC units. We wanted to open the windows one night but it was too loud outside with all the units running. Overall, a good value for the area. Would definitely consider staying here again.

The stay was very short but met our expectations. We arrived late, slept late and had to leave without taking advantage of the breakfast.

The room was actually better than I expected as I didn't realize that there was a little kitchenette with a stove, full sink, and small eating area. There is no counter space in the bathroom at all to put your toiletries. The breakfast options were better than most comparable hotels, with a cute little courtyard outside to enjoy your food and coffee. I was concerned when we drove up and saw the construction, but the hotel did a great job with the valet service and it wasn't an issue. Overall, it was fine and served its purpose of being a budget friendly option.

My family and I stayed at this hotel for 5 days. The hotel is in a wonderful location - close to the beach, shopping, and restaurants. The pool/spa area was nice and relaxing. The breakfast area was always clean and inviting. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The property is currently undergoing renovation and construction. With that in mind, our suite room was somewhat dingy. It is clear that updating has been occurring; however, the blinds on the windows were broken and even stapled to keep them somewhat in tact, there was only one towel bar in the entire suite to hang up wet bathroom towels, wash cloths, hand towels, beach towels, and swimming suits (I had to get creative by hanging towels and other wet clothing over doors and on furniture to ensure everything dried). The main entry door to the room was dirty as were the interior walls and window sills. We were in a suite with a kitchenette which had cook top burners, microwave, mini fridge, sink, and limited eating utensils. However, there were no pots, pans, or cooking utensils, nor dish washing soap, drying rack, or any other necessities needed to cook or clean up. There were no curtains on the windows (only the broken blinds), so the room at night was bright from all of the property's lighting. This made it difficult to sleep. Those things aside, our stay was enjoyable enough. It would have been more enjoyable if some some of the above issues had been different.

Pros - great location, affordable, and clean. 2 blocks from the beach - within walking distance. Could walk to restaurants and shops too. Very original hotel, not the run of the mill type. Very unique. Loved the full free breakfast and awesome valet service. Nice pool area if you didn't want to go to the beach. Friendly staff. Housekeeping was amazing. Hotel staff very accommodating for any needs we had. Cons - only 1 mirror in the room (over the sink). No air conditioner in separate bedroom in suite. Air conditioner only in the living room. They provided us with a fan for the bedroom at our request. Room a little small for a suite with 4 adults, but comfortable. Sofa bed could have used a better mattress. A little thin.

Yea it is a little weird, being a combination of 3 or 4 different buildings, but it is clean, the staff is attentive, and the location is outstanding

This is a weird, centrally located, clean motel. The staff is very friendly. Unfortunately they are going through a protracted construction phase which is not convenient. I have stayed there several times over the past 2 years but may find another motel for business until they complete the large project. I still recommend it but caveat emptor.

We loved the intimate, casita type room arrangement. The room was small but refurbished beautifully and we could open our window. It was very quiet at night. We'd definitely return.

The room conditions and the staff are both good, very nice service and people. However, the hotel right besides the road, you can here a lot of noise sometimes.

Great location only a couple blocks from the Beach. Economical way to stay in La Jolla. Nice room. Hot breakfast. Would stay here again.

Stayed there for a family holiday vacation and enjoyed the place. Though the room was small(ish), there was satellite TV, free wireless, fridge and microwave. The room was clean, the staff very helpful. Got a little noisy sometimes with children playing in the pool, but bearable. Short walk to the beach, many high quality dining options within walking distance. Hot breakfast in the morning, hot tub in the evening, very modest rates, this hotel offers a great value

Large suites. Great staff. Centrally located and just 2 blocks from one of the locals beaches in La Jolla. Yes the place is kind of odd and an older building; but it has been remodeled and the price is very fair and includes parking and internet which is not always the case in San Diego.

room was clean staff friendly and help fill. beach a few blocks away a little noisy but overall a positive experience and would go there again

People were great. Breakfast was good. Had a great stay.

Nice and comfortable hotel..Spending time there was really enjoyable

My stay at the Holiday Inn Express was exactly what I needed. I had surgery my first morning there and recuperated for two days. I couldn't have asked for a more soothing, restful experience. It was very quiet and the staff was most helpful. I would definitely recommend a stay there and when I have surgery on my other eye in, I plan to stay at the Holday Inn Express, La Jolla CA!

The location is only 5 mins away from beach, staff were extremely friendly and helpful! The hotel were quiet and good for family to have vacation.
