Holiday Inn Express San Diego Downtown

Walls were paper thin. Neighbors may have well been in our room. Toilet was loud and clogged constantly. Lights were broken and not replaced. Lots of construction happening. AC was a problem in the room and the dining area. Overall, not great.

Nicely design hotel, love the bathroom layout and a balcony is always a must have.

Hotel is very nice and modern. The staff is very helpful and welcoming. Only downside was the construction going on in the hotel, especially the wait for the 1 elevator since the other was out of commission. They offer discounted tickets for the zoo if you plan on going, so that's a nice plus. The location is great, right in the heart of downtown and walking distance from a lot of restaurants and bars. Definitely recommend renting a car to see all the sites of San Diego, so be aware parking at the hotel is $16/night but is within the lower level of the hotel so it's convenient. Overall, would recommend this and would definitely stay again.

Great hotel ,in awesome part of the city . Stuff is very friendly and accommodating . Breakfast is amazing with plenty of healthy and unhealthy choices as well ! Construction around the pool area is very loud and makes it hard to enjoy the pool and patio.

Got a great deal on this hotel and wanted to stay in Gaslamp as I normally stay closer to the beach. They are going through a renovation (May 2017) but honestly it wasn't that much of a hassle. The elevators would quit working at least once per day, but even that wasn't awful. They had the extras that are fun like cookies, lemonade in the lobby, beer and wine cocktails in the evening. The AC unit was a little finicky but once we did what they had posted (leave it at 68) then it actually felt comfortable and it was fine. (imagine that...do what they suggest and it works out better than what I was doing) Overall, this was a good experience and would probably stay there again (unless I wanted to be on the beach). This was just a couple miles walking to USS Midway area, just there around Little Italy and of course situated in Gaslamp Quarter. The parking garage was TIGHT!! So, we were happy our rental was a compact - I did see trucks in there but I have NO idea how they got there....seriously. Last thing was that we could hear the TV in the next room. So, not the quietest if you have loud neighbors, but the people next to us were quiet by the normal time and we were able to sleep well.

The hotel is under construction. Dirty, nasty, noisy. The one elevator that was working upon arrival broke down the 2nd day , Fri , and was still broken on Sunday. The stalff had attitude and the front desk manager was arrogant. If I did not prepay I would not have stayed one night.

We stayed at the hotel during construction. Our room was great but we had to walk by lots of dust and unfinished rooms. Also walls are paper thin you can hear everything going on in the rooms next to you if someone is in them.

I was there for 3 days. First day elevator did not work, next day no water (they gave another room temporary to take shower). Plus ongoing construction (noise during the day) and dust. Overall terrible experience.

the construction next door and on the roof were horrible even on sunday

Hotel was undergoing a renovation which explain some issues but not all. -Elevator is very slow, shared by construction workers, hotel staff and sometime the guess! Worse, the stair were not even accessible from the third floor due to construction. Emergency exit was still available but would trigger an alarm! -Noises and vibrations coming from the ceiling from time to time. According to maintenance, due to the pipes, nothing can be done. -The first morning In my room, I received a checkout bill but it was for another room (privacy concern). -No room service the last day. -Big screen TV (55 inch maybe) in room but no good desk. Just a small round table, barely enough to fit a laptop.

parking lot is terrible. pathway is too narrow. it is easy to damage car when make turn

Facility in high need of refreshing. Very old and dated.

Great location and the comfortable and pretty clean bed. The free breakfast is a plus, even though not a variety of choice. Some odor in the room; the furniture and carpet are old and kind of dirty; But it is acceptable. Very reasonable given the price.

Location within walk to the harbor, or gaslamp area.

Shuttle service was off a couple of times. Late night people were clearly heard outside. But overall staff was great and hotel was convinient and clean.

Our group had a last minute Airbnb cancellation. Holiday Inn let check in early and held our luggage until our flight. Staff was wonderful, great location, free happy hour, wonderful complimentary breakfast and we had a view of downtown and the ocean! We will definitely be back!

Great Location. Shuttle service to airport and all major attractions. Also very walkable to Bay Area Attractions, Gaslamp District, Little Italy. Staff was very nice and accommodating. Very responsive to all of our requests and very friendly. Hotel is a little older, but in decent shape. Seems they will be going through a remodel and facelift soon. Great breakfast. Coffee, Water, Lemonade and fresh baked cookies available in lobby throughout the day.

Convenient walking/driving to restaurants and attractions.

Hotel staff was nice, room was ok, herd a lot of auto traffic as the check in drive way was under the room. I also wanted to extend and I was told Ok but it be at the higher room rate. a little shocked by that. Didn't stay the second night .

After a Business Conderence this was a great hotel to spend a couple of personal nights in San Diego. Value for money and free wifi and breakfast was excellent. Room 307 didn't have a view but I didn't spend much time in the room! Airport shuttle was also welcome. Overall I think Holiday Inn Express are excellent value for money and the Downtown location was convenient for Balboa Park and San DiegonZoo.

Thank you for your feedback. We have just completed our room remodel. We will inspect all our rooms as no lights should ever be broken but only completing our remodel a month ago this is even more unusual. We have started replacing our in room air cooling units. They stop working once the temp is set below 68 to avoid freezing up.
