We stood here for a weekend getaway to the zoo with the family. This place is clean, comfortable and has great access to the 8 & 5 freeway. It's a just a 10 minute walk to Old Town SD where there is plenty of great Mexican restaurants and charming little shops. The rooms were small but clean and contemporary. There is a fridge and microwave in the room that wish I knew about:( they are perfectly camouflaged under the tv. I really liked the bathrooms. No tub for baths but the shower floor was "slip proof" so my toddler could easily shower with me. Coffee in the lobby was actually really good and they had vanilla creamer too! Big plus for me. At check in, we asked for a crib/pack & play and a few minutes later they called our room and said they were out. So we waited until after dinner and asked again. They told us again they were out and offered us blankets. Really? Blankets? I have an 18 month toddler and this was an extreme inconvenience and probably the number one thing I look for when traveling with my child. I asked how we were going to be compensated for this and one of the managers came out and said they would have a pack and play picked up from their sister hotel and it would be delivered soon. Perfect! It was in our room within 30 minutes and all was good. I really appreciate that they did that but I was not happy how the non management staff brushed it off and offered blankets, twice. I shouldn't have go ask for management to get a something like a crib. We're also Hilton Honors members and expect better service to loyal customers. Also, when checking in, another customer who had just checked in was given a key to a room that was already occupied. It's obvious their staff has not been properly trained and that is a big red flag for us. If you plan to stay here with small children, be warned that they have a VERY limited amount of cribs and if they do not offer you an another option, ask if they can get one from their sister hotel.
We stayed here for the first time April 27-May 1. We were happy with the location, able to walk to old town and restaurants. The room was nice size, very clean. The staff was absolutely the best. The front desk people were very friendly and helpful. The staff in the restaurant was very good, attentive and the food was good. We especially enjoyed John Q. He went out of his way to serve us and made us feel at home,he was very personable. The cleaning ladies also were very friendly and did a good job on the room. The only thing I was not happy with was the $ 18 daily charge for parking. It is not a closed lot so anyone can park there especially in the back, also we left everyday in the morning and came back at night ( we have friends and family there to visit plus sightseeing) so our car was not even there most of the time. We paid $72 for 4 nights of parking. way too much. We pay under $30 for 4 days of parking at the airport, so was shocked it was so much.
This was our second stay at this hotel. Staff was professional and polite. Very friendly and always smiling. Rooms are clean and conducive to a good nights sleep. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Waiters are efficient and friendly. Food was delicious. I highly recommend this hotel for your travel stop!
Amazing hotel! Minutes away from seaworld and walking distance to all of the restaurants in Old Town. This was our second stay and are already booked for next month. The staff is super friendly and the hotel is clean. I recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to San Diego!
Definitely great location for anyone visiting San Diego. Very close to public transport and old town. Lovely hotel with lovely spacious rooms. Had a great breakfast. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Definitely highly recommended and very well priced.
The service was amazing, Esteaban was the best bartender I've ever had. He is very friendly and accommodating. The entire hotel is wonderful. I would recommend 10/10. The location is very convenient. I will revisit anytime.
I and my wife checked in around 9 pm on a Friday night in April 2017. My wife considered that the pillows were poorly ironed, if at all. After approaching the front desk with this minor issue, she was told that they took note and that they would try to reach the Manager....tomorrow. We carried many bags, as you can see in the picture I am uploading. There were no carts, not one cart in the whole Hotel to help us bring our stuff to our room. In this case, to my surprise, my wife was told "the passengers use to keep a cart in their room if they are checking out the next morning". Now I know what to do the night before checking out, I thought for myself. Once again, front desk guy apologized for the inconvenience, told my wife again that he would call the Manager tomorrow (even though he made it clear that you could be unreachable, even “tomorrow”). This time, he offered us no solutions for our problems, but instead offered my wife “tomorrow's” breakfast for free. Well, we paid the breakfast package already.....and he did not know even that. After bringing all my baggage into my room by myself, and tired of being told that "the Manager will be called tomorrow", I took the four pillows myself to the front desk myself, asked the guy there to replace them since my problems were now and not tomorrow, told him his answers were unacceptable and asked him for the Managers name. Half an hour after a security guy brought us four pillows....poorly ironed as the first ones (check before and after pillow pictures) and the manager’s business card. No apologies this time. I felt I was doing something wrong. Anyway, that's how I got the manager’s email, and at midnight I wrote him this very same email. No answer from the manager…hence my wife insisted with the Front Desk the next morning. This timer the girls there did call the manager and he waived us one of four nights we booked at the Hotel. No email reply though. Monday morning I saw the manager was at the Hotel, asked to talk to him, and we did. He apologized, add a fee dinner for us…and answering my request for a written answer to my email he assured me he “just read it because the servers were down for the weekend, and that he would definitely would answer my email”. Well...he did not. We booked four nights at the Hotel. I always stay at Hiltons, mainly Hampton Inns, but this time we wanted to upgrade our experience. So far...well, you read me. By the way, main difference between Hampton Inn and Garden Inn is that the later provides a full restaurant on the premises. At this Hotel it is named VERDE. Avoid it. We were literally told “we are almost closed” (almost…but not yet) one time, and another time the waiter took the candles off our table while we were still dinning since “he needed to close at 10:00” (and it was 9:50 at the time). San Diego is a great city to visit, do not misunderstand me. Just beware that service at this Hotel is poor or nonexistent.
We were in San Diego for a conference and decided to extend for a few days. After spending a few days in the gas light district we opted for the charm of Old Town. Th Courtyard was in a great location. Set just on the outside of Old Town, we could easily walk to some of the best Mexican food we've ever had as well as shopping and easy access to the metro and deco bikes. I've stayed at many Marriott properties throughout the US and their quality varies. Courtyards are not my favorite, but this hotel is very new and was an excellent value for the area. It's beautifully decorated and we enjoyed just sitting in the lounge when meeting with friends. The pool is small but it had really nice seating areas where you could just sit and relax after a day of touring. The rooms were immaculate. Being a newer hotel, the furnishings and decor were pristine but clearly the staff there took the time to make sure it will stay that way. We rented bikes from Metro Cyclery, which is a quick Uber ride away. From there we were able to do amazing bike tours up to La Jolla Cove to see the sea lions, seals and cormorans and then down to Coronado island for some beautiful quiet beaches. I wanted to extend a special thank you to Ysmael, Briana and the hotel manager for their help during our stay. They stored our bikes for us and provided great directions and recommendations for places to visit, incredible restaurants and overall just made our stay pretty fantastic. Great Hotel! And great Service! Facilities very nice! Additional parking fee for hotel a rip off! There is an underground garage with security available but I parked in the hotel parking lot. Additional $18 a day to park in the lot was ridiculous. Great stay at this hotel. Parking fee left a bad taste in my mouth
Work and pleasure. You can read through my notes that I have written. I feel that is would be appropriate to issue my point back due to the issues we had. I would like to include your willingness to make things suitable for us in this way. My wife uses Marriott through her work and I urged her to go with Hilton instead. After this experience it will not be as easy to convince her. Certainly her feedback at work (Intel) will not reflect in Hiltons favor especially since the first two days were work related for her and there is no receipt that she can submit since the rate for those date were prorated since I used my points. I see this as my mistake.
