Myself and my Mum have just returned from our second visit to RIU club Gran Canaria - we were not disappointed yet again. From check in to check out you are welcomed by the extremely friendly staff who speak perfect English and accepted my broken Spanish when I tried. We went back to this hotel due its understanding of gluten free and since I am a coeliac I need people to understand the seriousness of it. You can ask for gluten free pizza, pasta and bread and also if you speak to the chefs (and you can't find anything you like) they will make you something else. I never had to go that far as I am not a fussy eater so always found plenty of grilled meat and salad. The drinks choices were great, the cocktails are pre mixed and a little sweet for my liking but the variety of other drinks (and branded) were plentiful. Aperol Spritz, Jim Beam and Cola, Jose Cuervo Tequla just to name a few. The rooms and site were immaculate and the staff work so so hard to make sure it stays that way. The bar staff are constantly working hard too and I am convinced the restaurant staff do not have any time off! They are all amazing, a special thank you to Santiago in the main Las Dunas restaurant for being amazing with my gluten free needs. The pools were great and although the main pool was very busy each day, as this is where the activities are and the children are. There is also a kids pool, an adults only pool which was enforced this year by lifeguards removing people with the under 18 band (which some people unfairly kicked off about) and also a quiet pool round the side which not many people seem to go to. Anyway, overall I would 100% recommend this hotel and I cannot wait to go back at some point! Muchas Gracias Club Riu.
Me and my family stayed at the hotel for a week. We stayed at the hotel 5 years ago and had such a good experience that we decided to return. We was not disappointed. The hotel itself is lovely. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and so well maintained. The pool area is also good with a few pools to choose from. The only negative was that there were many sun beds reservers. There were many days where I saw people walking down to the pool as early as 6am. I dread to think what time you had to get up to reserve a spot at the infinity pool area. Couldn’t complain about the food at the hotel, with such a wide variety of choose. It’s definitely worth booking up the two restaurants chooses they give you. We preferred having breakfast at the restaurant by the infinity pool as the main restaurant was chaos when we tried it. We decided to eat out one night just for a change in scenery. There are many restaurants and shops locate outside the hotel which we was very impressed with. Overall the hotel is lovely and we would definitely recommend it.
This is our third visit and it’s still as good as the first time we visited. We came with family this time who had a fantastic holiday, we stayed around main pools with having children with us , no problems getting sun beds all the time we were here. Hotel spotless, maid service every day beds comfy. Plenty of choice in all restaurants. Branded drinks fast service at bars very friendly staff all over hotel. Entertainment good for children and adults. My husband and I have booked again for October we will be sunbathing by the infinity pool 😃
This is our 4th time (3rd time in a year!) to this hotel and won’t be the last. Perfectly situated and with amazing views from the infinity pool over the ocean. The gardens are also beautifully maintained. It’s a truly relaxing hotel. Drinks are branded with plenty of choice. Food is very good and pepes snack bar is very good for chicken wings or pork ribs. With have been to Sensatori Tui all inclusive resorts and although the food and choice are better at these hotels, you can not fault the quality at this hotel for the price. And there are many good restaurants close by in Melanores centre if you fancy something different. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. And the hotel is spotless. There are no negatives for me. The hotel caters for families and there are a lot of children. However, in the adult only area you are completely unaware of the children. When we have a family we will be back with children because they have plenty of activities for them. Another perfect holiday.
Just returned from a 7 day stay with my 16 year old daughter. Hotel is lovely, really clean, lovely grounds, immaculately kept. Room was adequate, I had booked a twin, but they had checked me into a room with a kingsize double, but we were quickly allocated a twin room. Cleaners work really hard, room was always spotless, and they always say hello whenever you cross paths. Pools are great, not sure if they are saltwater or not ? they did have a salty taste. We used the infinity pool once, the view is amazing, but you do have to get up early to try and get a bed there. We spent most of our stay around the main pool, even at 8.30am you could get a decent spot, although as the week went on I noticed it getting busier. The gym isnt worth the time, bit disappointed with that, as I still like to get a couple of workouts in whilst away. Theres a few running machines, but barely any weights or weighted machines. Food was good, we mainly ate at El Patio for dinner, and Atlantico for breakfast, which has a lovely view, we did try the Asian which was ok, and the Atlantico grill, both of which you have to book in advance. I'm not a big drinker, but didnt think much of the cocktaisl, both the choice and the taste. I had a pina colada which was incredibly weak. I had read that drinks are branded, but not all are, I saw someone drinking what I though was Baileys, and fancied one of those, but it was a copy, which wasnt a massive issue for me. Soft drinks/beer/coffee you can help yourself from machines, coffee was pretty good I thought. Entertainment was ok, the animation team work very hard, I usually get involved with all the games, but there was a large amount of German guests, and they were very aggressive with the water polo, which put me off getting involved any more. Also got into a heated disagreement over sunbeds with a German guest, they can be very rude at times. I think it was the German school holidays, very few Brits at the hotel. Could do with some music being played in the evenings at the outside bar area, as once the evening entertainment finished around 11pm, there was nothing to do but sit around, would of been good to have some music being played. Overall a really well kept hotel, great staff, only let down by a few little things.
Me and my wife have stayed here before It was beautiful not many places get me back but I couldn’t wait to return Staff was wonderful everything I asked for was never a problem Any problems was sorted straight away However smoking was to much for me I felt there wasn’t many places to go to get away from it pool side to much outside eating to much to be fair I have very little to complain about This Holiday wasn’t cheap in fact the dearest I’ve paid for and top dollar in my book means I want slightly more My last complaint is maids it’s all abit hit and miss some days 100% other days toilet not cleaning and floor not swept I truly believe the hotel was perfect in every way But now I would say needs some improvements but please don’t be put of any problem you have they will deal with it they great like that I think there just taken there eye of the ball we will definitely return maybe one day all best thankyou everyone at riu
The hotel grounds are beautiful and I doubt that they would be found in a newer hotel due to constraints such as the cost of land. There are two large pools situated side by side which are a good size and suited to families with children as there are slopes at the end of each one. There is another quieter pool which is good for serious swimmers as it is a good size (I estimate about 20 meters long) The third pool is an infinity pool overlooking the ocean and is supposed to be for adults only. It's very nice but we didn't use it because, as you might expect, there is fierce competition for sunbeds around it. The staff at this hotel are excellent. They were all friendly, helpful and extremely hard working. Initially I would look at the large numbers of people waiting at the main bar where the entertainment is thinking "Oh no I'm going to be waiting ages to get served". However, this was never the case because there were a good number of staff behind the bar who were very hard working and they were also good at recognising who should be served first. The food at this hotel was about the best that we have had at an all inclusive hotel. It has to be recognised that all inclusive buffet style food will never be as good as A La Carte and that should be allowed for. Allowance also has to be made for the fact that you are abroad and the style of cooking and type(s) of food will be different from what we are used to in the U.K. There was a large variety of food available so we could always find something to our liking. We found the food to be of decent quality at all the restaurants but preferred to use the smaller of the two main restaurants for our evening meals as we preferred the ambience . We tried the Asian restaurant once but it's not really my preferred type of food. Our favourite of all the restaurants was the Atlantico, mainly because of the great location overlooking the ocean. However, there was a bit of a problem there with the influx of birds. It's not so bad when they are scrounging bits of food from the floor of the restaurant but some were brazen enough to take it from left overs on plates even when you were still sitting at the table. Worst of all we witnessed them helping themselves from the food on display, their favourite being the sweetcorn! This is clearly a health hazard which we reported to the hotel manager, a very nice lady called Isabel who spoke good English. She recognised that it was a problem and undertook to take steps to alleviate the situation. When we later returned to the Atlantico we noticed that the blinds above the glass were all lowered but the birds could still easily fly in through the two large automatic glass doors. There are a number of solutions that I can think of, all of which would have some disruptive effect, but clearly something more has to be done to manage the problem The hotel rooms are functional and adequate but the standard rooms are a bit on the small size and the furniture and décor are not very salubrious. I believe that the rooms have been refurbished about 5 years ago and money must have been tight because they have very basic looking wooden doors which have traditional Yale type key operated locks. I suffer from claustrophobia and the standard room that we had been allocated was too small for my comfort. After complaining to the TUI rep the hotel upgraded us to a "triple room" which was larger and had a settee. It also had a side view of the pool with the ocean just, visible in the distance from the balcony. It had a large modern T.V. and a large bed which was very comfortable. The towels were changed on demand with the usual procedure of leaving them on the bathroom floor as an indication that fresh ones were needed. A change of bedding had to be requested by leaving a card on the bed. Unfortunately we failed to read this and it had to be pointed out to us by reception when we complained that they hadn't been changed after 7 days. It would have been helpful if the rep had mentioned this in the welcome meeting. The only toiletries provided are blocks of hand soap and some cheap "body lotion/shampoo" in a dispenser in the shower so best bring your own shower toiletries! Should really be better in a 4 star+ hotel I think. The entertainment is a bit mixed but we weren't expecting Adele and Ed Sheeran and it wasn't too bad. In summary this hotel could be improved a little but, given the good location, good food and excellent outside facilities contained within large beautiful well kept gardens, it really is a great place to stay. Last but not least the staff must take credit for their sterling efforts in making our stay comfortable and enjoyable
The resort was all round very good. Lovely location, good food, wonderful weather and professional staff. The only drawback was the quality of the wine. Every location: bars, pools and restaurants had basic plonk (red, white and rose) from a tap. I expect a bit more from a "platinum" resort, such wine from bottles. It's not as if Spain lacks quality wine at good prices. Some guests brought wine on to the resort and asked staff to open the bottles and serve them, but this seemed a bit gauche. What a shame overall as it detracted from what was a very nice holiday.
Have just done 1 week in Maspalomas in the Riu Gran Canaria. Really enjoyed. We have stayed in a lot of Riu hotels and this one is one of the best. The room and bathroom both a good size. The bathroom had the best lighting I have had for a long time. Great for doing make up! Also the walk in shower was really nice. everywhere was clean. We spent our time at the adults only pool area which was lovely. a bit like being on a ships deck. We found the food good, we didn't do the other restaurants as we found the buffet more than adequate, we have done Riu hotels before so just didn't feel the need. The gardens and grounds are beautiful and the hotel is a good location for the shops and bars if you want to venture out. The drinks were good as was the service. Cava included, which is always a bonus! There are singers on the terrace in the evening, some better than others as usual, and shows in the bar. Everything was shut down by midnight, no issue with any noise. The only downside to the location is it is a bit of a walk to,the beach, about 15 to 20 minutes maybe. This is a really nice hotel and would definitley stay there again.
We have just returned from a fabulous 2 week stay in the Riu Gran Canaria booked through TUI. We are very loyal to the RIU brand and have stayed in various across the world. Here is our honest review - Positives - - All of the staff are very welcoming and attentive. I have to disagree with previous reviews stating the staff are more welcoming towards Germans, we never saw this or experienced negative staff behaviour. Ivan was great, always attentive and chatty in the restaurant. Our TUI Rep Janice was amazing! She has lived on the island for years and knew everything. We hired a car for the 2 weeks and she gave us tips and places not to be missed during our road trips. We also booked the Moonlight Cinema through her which was quick, easy and a good price too. - The rooms; very clean, modern and spacious. We were on the ground floor away from the entertainment (YAY!) with a lovely patio which caught the sun in the morning. There was a mini fridge with complimentary drinks restocked every 2 days - cola, lemonade, water, beer etc. The maids cleaned the rooms to a good standard too. You can pay to upgrade to a swim up room. I did hear these rooms can get noisy due to them being located under the infinity pool and Atlantico restaurant, so you may want to consider this especially if you do not want to hear lots of noise. - The food; loads to choose from! Very fresh and plentiful amounts so you never went without. The Kaori restaurant (which you have to book 1-2 days in advance but always spaces so don't panic) was lovely - definitely recommend this. The Atlantico restaurant was great too. We sat out with a champagne breakfast looking out at the sea views, a great way to start the day! We also booked this restaurant during one of their Canary themed nights, this was also very tasty. - The pools; there are 4 different pools here. There is a children's pool with slides, a large dragon which is great for the kids. A smaller pool away from the noise with sun beds and parasols. The main pool was lovely - very big, 2 large 'L' shapes next to each other, always very clean, tons of sun beds and parasols, not too deep either. Now the infinity pool! Wow! This was gorgeous. You do need to get there early (7:30am) to get a decent sun bed next to the infinity pool. It has amazing views over the sea and again, very clean. - The entertainment; we didn't sit out to watch the entertainment in the evening so cannot really comment on this much. The pool entertainment was fab! Lots of water aerobics, dances by the reps, water mat which was loads of fun, water polo, water volleyball and lots more. These entertainment reps were great with both kids and adults. Negatives - - Smoking; people smoke everywhere - pool, outside entertainment, outside the restaurants etc! If you want to sit outside having your meal be prepared for lots of smokers. There wasn't many non-smoking areas which was a shame. It would be great if they allocated some non-smoking areas around the pool. - Room noise; you can hear your neighbours - not majorly but if you want to be in a very quiet area this hotel isn't for you. It's a very large resort so naturally you will hear people in rooms next to you. - Pepe's Food; this is a snack bar located near the main pool area. They serve this food between 12:00 - 18:30. We found this to be quite limiting so it was very hit and miss if you found something you wanted. - Car Park; there isn't really enough car parking spaces for the number of guests in the hotel. This car park is also used by staff, TUI reps etc so it gets full very quickly. Lots of people double parking and parking round the edges. We didn't struggle too many times to find a space. Other points not related to the hotel - - Our flight was supposed to be a TUI flight, however this got changed to be flown with Olympus Airways. I highly do NOT recommend this company! Sorry TUI, they did not do you proud. The cabin crew were very abrupt, rude and also ignoring your light on for drinks etc. There was a family behind us on the outbound flight, where upon descending the cabin crew asked the lady to wake her little boy up. She proceeded to do this however the cabin crew member kept repeating how he would break his neck if he wasn't woken up - well she was waking him up so whats the need to keep going on?! When the husband said to her please stop being rude, she kept saying well it's the language barrier - um no, there's not excuse for rudeness. The inbound flight home was also not great. Again the cabin crew coming over, turning your light off and then walking off without asking what you wanted. We kept having to put our light on, as did others around us. What a massive shame! I'm sure TUI was hoping for positive feedback considering they are representing them. If our flights ever get changed again like this, we will be cancelling our holiday. - Car Hire; we booked car hire through Top Car in advance and picked up from the airport. Very good prices, lovely staff, easy pick up and drop off. Definitely recommend this. Overall a fabulous holiday, we would definitely return. Thank you to all the RIU Staff and Janice our TUI Rep.
