I loved every minute of my three-night stay at this Salzburg gem! First, it is captivatingly charming and quaint...while also highly comfortable and functional...on a delightful, narrow Old Town side street. Conveniently located for the Christmas Markets and most of Salzburg's numerous attractions, as well as excellent shopping and restaurants. I adored my room! Huge windows in the bedroom and bathroom, nicely furnished, very clean and up-to-date, good storage, one of the very best showers I have ever had. I especially enjoyed the mini-refrigerator with a wonderful variety of complimentary beverages and the outstanding coffee and tea supplies. The loose teas provided and the oversized cups were delightful...especially during cold December. I don't recall the name of the woman who was working there during my stay (and whether she is the owner or the manager) but she was enormously helpful and simply fantastic. I had many queries before and during my stay regarding restaurant reservations, directions, train arrangements, etc. and they were all handled expertly. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Salzburg and, should I return, I would definitely stay here again!
If you are after a small hotel in the middle of Salzburg's old town then this is an excellent choice. It was perfect for our weekend break, the room was comfortable, service very friendly, welcoming and attentive. The breakfasts were just what we wanted and we had an excellent evening meal here too. The decor is a little quirky, and if you want a spacious hotel with views of the mountains then this isn't for you. However, for a really comfortable break in the heart of the old town and easy access to everything in Salzburg this is a really good choice. It will certainly be high on our list if we visit Salzburg again.
What a delightful hotel! This small boutique hotel is the epitome of “quaint”! Very centrally located in the heart of the old town, it is within walking distance of most of the sites of Salzburg. My husband and I arrived during the peak of the advent season, to a snowy and beautiful town. The hotel arrival is on the second floor, easily accessed by a small elevator. Upon arrival we were quickly checked in, and brought to our room. We stayed in the Mozart Suite, which unlike all the other room photos we saw, did NOT have the giant photo mural of opera singers but had 2 nicely framed blow ups of a hand written Mozart composition over the bed. I was kinda relieved, actually, some of those murals seemed a bit intense! Our room was long and skinny with several windows opening over the Goldgasse Strauss. In the early morning you could look out the window and see the snow falling as shop keepers readied their storefronts below. We did keep one window open at night, as it was a bit warm, but also, my husband and I like to hear the sounds of Europe when we travel, as we do not live in a place that has the same kind of street life…The room style is contemporary but keeps respect for the old architecture and details. The bed was a little stiff, but the linens and duvet were super comfy and made up for it. We had a nice sitting area and desk. The bath was very spacious considering the age of the building and its inner city location, and was beautifully appointed with very modern and clean fixtures. There is a small fridge and a Nespresso Maker. Wished there were better closets with places to store suitcases, but we still had 2 benches at the foyer for this. The best part of the hotel was the breakfast. Although small, it’s offerings are very handmade and delicious. The dining room is very true to a country style Austrian home, with wood carvings and soft linen. As it was advent, the room was tastefully decorated to create an extra cozy atmosphere. There is a choice of cheese, meats, breads, fruit, cereal and pastries. They also make eggs to order and yummy cappuccinos. My husband loved the Liver spread! Our breakfast hostess was a very lovely woman, who gave us great suggestions for things to see and do on our trip that we felt were more “local” tips, and we did follow her advice for some pleasant sightseeing! Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family who are looking for a boutique experience.
We booked this hotel for the Christmas market which is very close. What we didn’t like from the beginning was that they change the price each day and you could end up paying even if booked in advance a much more higher price than the price of the next day or even the same day. This even if during the same period and all not weekends. We payed a quite overprised price for a 4 star hotel, 300 euro 1 night for a double room but got an upgrade to junior suite. The hotel is nice, the junior suite is beautiful and the bed very very comfortable, the TV is enormous, very nice retro fridge with free drinks, coffee and tea. The receptionist from Romania was very attentive and helpful, taking us personally to see where to park and bringing us back. The reception is cosy. The restaurant looks very nice although we didn’t try it. The entrance in the hotel looks a bit filthy, you could get scared until you see that the rooms are good.
Getting here from the train station by taxi.. down a short corridor (that’s common in Salzburg) was easy ! This little hotel is old world meets modern! The restaurant is old world decor and charm ! The rooms are beautiful and the bathrooms are modern! The staff was super friendly and enjoyable!! The bed was comfy and the towels were warm ! Close to all the things to see ! I would return again !!!
In the heart of old town , Goldgasse is an original luxury hotel well decorated with a very good restaurant where you can eat a delicious Kaisershmann .. The hotel is clean and really well located with a very kind staff especially Frau Ulrica who was really great and helpful ,the kind of person that make you feel you know her since 100 years ..I fall in love with Salzburg ..For sure i will come back there and certainly will be staying at Hotel Goldgasse. I recommend this Hotel and many thanks to all the staff
We took three rooms for ourselves and our family, each room was quirky but beautiful and comfortable with every detail carefully thought out. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. We had a small terrace outside the rooms on our floor where we were able to have drinks each evening. The restaurant is also very good with well cooked food. There is seating outside if the weather is nice enough for lunch/dinner. The hotel is also extremely well situated for all the sights.
Situated in darling downtown Salzburg, Hotel Goldgasse is charming and quaint, but each room is unique and has a different decor. The building is 700 years old and sits on a walk-only street, so if you have a car, you have to park it several blocks away (but the hotel offers to cover the parking charge). The hotel's staff was incredibly kind and helpful, especially Ulrike who may be the most dedicated hotel employee we've ever met. The rooms are smallish, but that's to be expected in Europe. The bathroom, with its high-tech shower, was wonderful, and the rooms have everything you could need. Our only complaint was the noise outside. We were woken up both nights because of Street cleaners, dogs barking, and other various sounds. The beds are firm, and linens comfortable, so we had no complaints with the accommodation except the noise.
The host, Ulrica, made us feel welcome, special, comfortable and like old friends. Her friendliness and willingness to help and advise was especially heart-warming and left us in awe. The room we stayed in was creatively and comfortably decorated and will be remembered and spoken about for a long time to come. The freshness of all the décor amidst the historic town is incredibly well done. Breakfast, OMG what a spread! Friendly, efficient and knowledgeable restaurant staff. Tastes and variety superior to any I have ever experienced. What a treat it all was!!! The hotel is situated right on the main square were all the historic buildings, churches and sights start. Massive amount of eating options available, all within walking distance.
The hotel is in the perfect location to explore all the key sites in Salzburg. What the room lack in size, they make up for in terms of ensuring you have the complete amenities of a luxury hotel (comfy bed, in room coffee, modern shower). Although the hotel is in a historic building right next to the main square, the rooms are modern and not outdated in terms of decor. The staff was helpful and efficient. At first I was thrown off by the small rooms and slightly uneven floor (after all it is a historic building), but after a night (we stayed there 3 nights) , the coziness and comfort made up for that. We had one meal at the hotel restaurant and it was also excellent.
