Besides the fact that there is usually only one person at the reception, which means you have to wait alot before even been served, we also had issues with the staff working at this establishment. We were told to not unpack as we were going to be moving rooms to a sea view. We waited for over 3 hours wasted our prescious time we could be exploring the city, expecialy important to us as we told them we had limited time. They didnt change us rooms untill the next day. Waste of our time. Secondly we had booked a tour that without our knowledge had been cancelled. We had provided the agency with out room number and hotel number. The hotel never called us to inform that thr tour had been cancelled even though the agency called them repeatedly to inform us. Another waste our time, of our entire day actually. Also when we called to ask for them to take our luggage from our room to the reception ( which is a very long walk ) they told us no because there was no one available. We had to drag our heavy suitcases IN THE RAIN to our cab ourselves. Also the tv was unwatchable since it was all static, they will put you on hold for minutes at a time when calling the reception from our room and the shower head spread out so far it seems to hit everything but my head. Conclusion, old hotel with very spacious rooms, terrible and rude service and poor maintanance. Oh and i speak fluet portuguese and had a hard time so if you only speak english you would be digging your own grave booking it
The hotel is located outside of the overly crowded neighborhoods with good access to Barra, historic center, shoppings, restaurants and bars. It is overlooking the bay side from both sides of the building. The pool is good although the quality of the service is poor. Great location.
i stayed here for a few days a few years ago. my room was so nice, lots of space, very comfortable but the best part was the view of the sea. beautiful! also the hotel has a good location. the drawaback is that it doesnt have a beach in front, there are rocks. but you can also enoy your stay while at the pool which is also in front of the sea.
The hotel is ideally situated to celebrate carnival in Salvador, outside of the overly crowded neighbourshoods such as Barra or the historic centre. It provides easy access to the festivities but still a quite and peacefull surrounding. The hotel is overlooking the bay side from both sides of the building. The pool is good although the quality of the kind staff at the poolbar is poor when it comes to preparing drinks. In general our stay was a big disappointment, we paid a hefty price to stay 4 nights during carnival. The building is run down outside and in, the hallways and bed linnen smell bad. When we had a problem with our toilet overflowing at the middle of the night the front desk did not answer the Phone. When going down to report the incident in person the manager offered no apologies for the incident nor for not answering the Phone earlier although he appeared to be occupied with nothing. A maintenance guy went up a minute later to perform a check. Afterwards no cleaning service was offered, leaving us to clean the bathroom for the night with towels. The bar closes before midnight.
Hello, we just stayed at this hotel in Dec 2015 for 4 nights 5 days and enjoyed our stay. Taxi from hotel is about R80 and is in the Rio Vermelho area of the city. View is fantastic, rooms very clean and spacious. Breakfast was included for our plan and there was lots to chose from. Check in was good but a bit old fashioned as some of it was filling out forms by hand.y only complaint was that neither pool was very clean, water not very clean and smaller pool had stuff floating in it. Tour bus to major attractions is R55 per day and well worth it. Hotel close to a few decent places to eat and beach nearby small and safest to go earlier as weird teens loom around later on. Staff friendly and good stay overall.
I spent 5 days in Salvador with my family. I honestly have to state it was a nightmare. Unreliable people since we didn't get what we had paid for. I booked (and paid) a suite room 7 months before and when we arrived our room was not available and they gave us a level down one. Room was pretty dirty. Several services promoted on the web sites (hair dresser, nursery) where not available at all. Extremely unprofessional and impolite employees (I called the lobby at 2 PM for towel replacement and they came at 5.30 PM). Many food menu' options were not available. At the check out they wanted to charge us and extra bed which has never been placed in our room. Shameless. Don't try it.
As a business traveller I stayed in this hotel for two nights over a weekend. The room was good with excellent views. But what could be a top class hotel is spoilt by lack of staff and attention to detail. For example: breakfast is chaos with not enough staff as a result plates, cutlery and food all run out and you have to wait around for them to be resupplied; the gym is a good size but it is let down by the fact that some of the equipment is broken; checking in and out can take ages if you hit a busy time. It is however close to some good local restaurants and in a reasonable area.
This hotel has great views...that's about it. The hotel is old, the reception looks like the computers are from the 1980's, the elevators are rusty, the rooms and old. The breakfast is good, but the window look like they have never been cleaned.
This is not my first time at this Pestana unit, and a return there would have as sole objecting acquiring stays to keep my Gold status with them, and one who has seen the hotel in its golden years, when once regarded a top-5 in Brazil, misses that time badly! The building itself is deteriorating very fast, maintenance is non-existing: everyting rusts or crumbles or puffs with humidity, windows have a thick layer of crust, common areas aren't properly clean, the lift sounds more like a container closing, water takes ages to heat up, furniture is tacky and cracks up - and I stayed in their alleged honeymoon suite, which is nothing but two attached rooms with minor adaptations! One regular complain which was at last improved was internet, which is now free of charge and reaches the whole hotel, excluding some corners of your own room! One expects the suite to have high quality and more amenities, that is so not the case with Pestana! The bathroom is tiny and never cleaned properly, the shower has no pressure, the floor is slippery, the toilet is shaky, what a risk!! Breakfast at Pestana was once regarded as the best in the whole Salvador, now it has drastically decayed, and it should be regarded as a major insult to offer artificial oversugarred juices in a 5* hotel - go next door to Mercure and you'll have a proper breakfast! Staff is lazy and unmotivated, they seem overwhelmed and are certainly under pressure; who wouldn't be after dozens of your colleagues being fired in the previous week? Our package included dinner and they had no idea whatsoever what teh details related to it were! Honestly-speaking, for the hotel to bring back its prestige, it has to close down for a year or more, get completely destroyed and rebuilt! In the meantime, so your time, money and patience won't go wasted, choose another place to stay or hold your congress!
I stayed for 2 nights in this hotel located in Rio Vermelho neighborhood. This 5 star hotel is part of the Pestana Group and I had booked with great expectations but all my expectations fell apart. I arrived by taxi and there weren't any one to pick my bag and direct me to check-in. I had also repaired that the front windows were very dirty. Then I went to check-in and the staff wasn't very pleasant. Again any one carried my baggage to the room. The room is big but with 2 very very bad points: very dirty and very bad kept/maintained. The air extraction very dirty, the safe without a door, the room had some cracks, the floor was very dirty, the balcony need paint touch and some sticks were old and broken! Is very unsafe for kids so don't let your childrens go to the balcony! This is very dangerous and need to be fixed immediately but apparently nobody cares about! The curtains poorly isolating the light so at 5.30am the room was full of light and I could not sleep without the eye shade. There also were a false sense of security because I passed many time for the entry of the hotel and anyone asked for my identification or room number. The good things about this hotel: The breakfast with many variety and and pool area! So this hotel need a very deep clean and maintenance! Check my photos to see who they kept my room
