Best Western Hotel Salobreña3.0 out of 5.0

After reading some of the recent reviews on TripAdvisor we had prepared ourselves for the worst in anticipation of our visit to the Best Western, Salobrena and were quite pleasantly surprised. Our stay was during September and we can only think that things must have 'improved' significantly after the European school holiday break. The rooms were clean and and the hotel was quiet, unlike the experience of reviewers in July and August. The evening buffet meal was a bit disappointing but probably what you would expect from a budget hotel and the breakfast buffet was probably a bit better than many similar hotels. We stayed at the Best Western Salobrena as part of a group booking and our group was catered for well. Check in and check out were smooth and hassle-free. I was disappointed that there was a daily charge to use the room safe and also that there was not even one printed document in my room with any kind of information at all on it. Nothing to explain the functioning of the television, how to telephone reception or any other room, what to do in an emergency, points of interest in Salobrena etc.
We had a booking for Best Western Salobrena, for 26th August 2017. When we arrived we were given room 226, (see attached pictures), unfortunately I cannot attach a smell. It turned out this room had already been rejected by one of the place in the sun crew. Since then we have been moved to another hotel. We assumed the hotel would be in good repair and have a pleasant aroma.
This hotel doesn't deserve a single star. The beds are terrible, breakfast is basically inedible and you are not allowed to sleep because of the ridiculous entertainment played at tinnitus inducing volumes until midnight. If you have a pool facing room you or your children will not sleep. I would avoid this hotel at all costs.
The first room I was put in stunk so much of smoke I could barely walk 3 steps into it, so I went downstairs and without an issue they put me into the room next door to that. This next room had a huge area in the wall which was damp and moulding let alone that when you turned the AC on it just pupped out poo smelling air. So I told reception and they sent man to spray the air con unit in the bathroom which helped for maybe less than 30secs. The next morning I moved again. This time better, no walls with damp and no smelling AC, little did I know there would be loud screaming coming from the so called entertainment (otherwise known as a nightmare) that was coming from the pool side. This happened until midnight. Every night. Yes I am on a work trip so am in no mood to hear the entertainment but the rooms are horrible, from what I can hear every night the entertainment is crap and I wouldn't even dip a toe in the pool that looked green from kids piss and suncream. Its also miles away from anything so you need a car, of which I recommend so you can get away from the hotel as much as you can should you ever stay here.
A busy hotel with a lot of local families. Crowded around the pool and so much noise we had to escape to the beach. We got a room though facing sunset and got an excellent meal from the grill - so good it made our stay worth while.
We stayed at the hotel for a 4 night sunny break, 3 standard double rooms half board , all very different but suited us all, each had plenty of room and an amazing sea view as requested. The buffet food was regularly filled and hot, can't fault the service in the restaurant. We found the location a little limiting as the hotel was just off a major Coastal route, although we did trek down to the small beach next to the hotel, a pebble beach with clear water, and a but a tricky descent in flip-flops! The hotels courtesy bus was ok but went at something like 9.45,10.45 and a lunchtime, but only returned at 12pm,1 and 7pm, and so a little awkward if like us you don't all get going early and want to return in the afternoon. We found the reception very helpful with booking a taxi for us which cost 7euros one way for all 6 of us, as we could come and go when suited us. Salobreña beach was lovely, darkish sand, clean toilets, Pedalos, the usual sales people with bags, sunglasses, watches etc, but no trouble if you weren't interested. We went to, Aquatropic Waterpark which was great fun, after 3 it was a cheaper price and shut at 7pm, so loads of time to go on everything, food and drink all served, we'll worth a visit if it's your thing. All in we, as a family two adults and two daughters 17 and 19 with their boyfriends, had a great time. Salobreña is a very Spanish holiday town mainly for the spanish, so if you like the English bars, menus and for everyone to speak English then maybe not for you. Give it a try though we enjoyed it.
We went to spend one day. We arrived and our room was ready. The room is very spacious, with awesome views if you are located in the sea side. Shower with shampoo/gel, comb, cotton, ... Flat screen TV, a huge closet, quite and comfortable beds. The pool is at the deck so you can enjoy the amazing views. They serve cocktails. Breakfast costs 8.50 euros, and lunch or dinner costs 18 euros (drinks not included). Parking is free, and you can also bring your pet with you for only 7 euros/day. Receptionists were friendly and professional. Good spot to stay and enjoy the city
The hotel is situated on a hill facing the sea which makes for amazing sunset views. The rooms are a little dated, like most of the hotel itself. The staff was unfriendly and not interested in us at all. Upon arrival, the receptionist was on the phone for about five minutes, completely ignoring us. And once she was ready to assist us,she took another called and had a chat for another 4 minutes. We had ordered a package to be delivered prior to our arrival and had cleared it with the reservation department. When we asked for it, she simply told us nothing had arrived. We asked if she could check around and ask bet colleagues to which she said she did. We left the hotel the next day without the delivery yet our tracking number said it was delivered to the hotel. Two days later we got a mail informing us that they had found the box and it was ready to be picked up. We had to drive back 60km to get it. Waste of time. We will not return to this hotel.
I've spent a week holiday with my wife in this lovely hotel and had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay; The room was very clean with an amazing view of the sea and Salobreña beach; The room itself was modern and had been recently done up; The housekeeping team are doing a great job maintaining an excellent level of cleaning..."Muchas graçias" a seniora Lopez who was always smiling and welcoming; The bathroom shower is excellent with good water pressure; I have found the safety box spacious and very easy to operate; The reception staff were very attendive and proffesional; We only had breakfast in the hotel restaurant, and was very good for our tastes...a great thank you for Maximilian, the gentleman who has fantastic customer service skills, works very hard to keep the operation running smoothly at breakfast and also makes fantastic omletes 😊; The car park can be quite bussy during the weekends as the hotel is also a wedding venue, but we personally always have found a spot for our car to park; The hotel is located outside Salobrena, therefore a hired car gives you the advantage of getting to places around; Try to spend a day at Playa del Maro, and you won't be disappointed 20 minutes drive, Nerja is a must in the evening for a romatic walk down to Balcon de Europa (plenty good restaurants and bars), Salobreña itself has a few lovely places located straight onto the beach where you could try local grilled fish, octopus and sea food....and is prepared in front of your eyes... Granada is less than a hour drive..with Alhambra, Generalife gardens and the old town..... The views around Costa Tropical are stunning but the sand is not all that fine grained, but don't let that put you off....the are is really beautifull .... Oh and the last thing...I love the hotels swimming pool area....very relaxing Thank you,Best Western Salobreña
The price of this hotel was what drew us to it. The views from the room is what made us love it. It's out of the town a bit which is what made it cheaper but the value for money was amazing. The rooms appear to all face the ocean and have balconies. The room was clean and well-stocked
