This was our second visit to the Chateau de l'Hoste. This time we had booked a special arrangement with 2 x dinner, visit of the Foie Gras Museum, wine tasting in the wine bar and cooking workshop with the Chef of the Restaurant included. Dinner was superb, also the dinner we had at Stephanie's Bistro was excellent and the bistro really is a very nice place. Since we are real wine drinkers, we of course enjoyed the wine tasting in the bar of some very good Bergerac wines. We had free tickets for the visit of the Foie Gras museum in Frespech....very interesting. My husband and myself had a workshop with the Chef of the Restaurant. We had 2 hours, during which we learned how to make Foie Gras and Magret de Canard. Also, how to nicely decorate the plates. The Chef is such a charming man, with a lot of patience, and even my husband (who never cooks at home) very much enjoyed this workshop. Merci Chef!!!!! During dinner, we discovered at our table some of the food we had prepared during the workshop. In one word, fascinating experience and excellent stay. Will go back there!!!!!!!
We were invited to the opening night of Stephanie's Bistro at the Château de l'Hoste in their redesigned wine bar for an excellent meal personally prepared by Stephanie, the owners Swiss trained daughter. She has around 30 covers and will offer a different fixed menu daily, and tapas to accompany the wine bar's traditional happy hour on Thursday evenings. We very much enjoyed her first nights menu of interesting and exquisitely presented dishes accompanied by carefully selected bio wines. The Château is a beautiful venue for fine dining and now offers an alternative choice for sophisticated but less formal dining. Based on our experience last night I am sure Stephanie's Bistro will be a huge success with hotel guests, local residents and the many discerning visitors to this lovely area.
My wife and I visited the Chateau de L'Hoste for dinner on Saturday 1st October. We opted to dine a la carte. First course was local fois gras, which was absolutely delicious and a very large portion. The main course was filet steak and I have to confess, it was the best steak I have ever eaten in France and close to the best anywhere in the World! It was prepared "a point", medium rare for me. It was juicy, tender and very tasty, altogether excellent. The entire culinary experience, including the petit fours, accompaniments, deserts and home made bread, delivered by very courteous and professional staff made the whole experience an absolute delight and one to remember!
we took a few days here in Oct 15 as part of our wedding anniversary trip in France. What a magnificent sight greeted us when we saw the hotel - considerable charm and character. Classic. Although a little too chilly to use the outdoor pool then sunny weather allowed to explore the hotel grounds and locality quite extensively as there are lots of places to explore, even on foot. The hotel has a number of suggested touring routes, some of which we did undertake in an open-topped Morgan sports car which we hired from the hotel. Gotta be done! Food, drinks, service and rooms were all impressive and excellent. I think that the hotel style and ambience are more suited to couples than young families but 'mine hosts' were very accommodating for us so who am I to say! The owners apparently have a sister hotel on La Reunion island which we're thinking of booking for winter 2017. I would definitely like to stay at Chateau de l'Hoste again and any other hotel run by these owners (Trepp & Barry I think?)
Stayed there last year and have visited many times since. Great ambience, location, setting - a lovely place to relax with fine food and great wines and excellent service. We arrived kate due to a delayed flight. The chef had prepared cold meal on a plate which was superb. The colours, aromas, textures, were superb and all the plates were identical. Fantastic! Eating in the dining room or on the terrace is an experience to behold. Go and stay there and switch off from the world, take a country walk, come back and relax in the lovely gardens, swimming pool or beautiful bedrooms.
I would definetely recommend the Chateau de l'Hoste for a charming and relaxing stay! Mrs Lisa and Mr. Trepp & Barry makes you feel like home :) The rooms are very cozy and confortable, and impeccably clean. The dinner served at the terrace c'est magnifique! The food is really good! Many people from around come just to dinner. The swimming pool is great! And the gardens are beautiful. You can feel they take care of every details! A really special and unique place!
If you think you would have a lovely nice meal there , think twice. You will be told by the owner directly what you can do and what you cannot as it is her place and her rule. For the price they are charging one would expect at leat a customer service in line of the suppose standing. Not dog friendly by the way at they say it is on the terrace where you can bring your dog.It is only dog friendly for her own dog( the owner) Food for thought.
Tucked away amid the Route Bastide in the Dordogne, this venue is delightful. So quiet that it was easy to sleep until 10 each morning and then descend to a leisurely breakfast continental style. There is an outside pool and some lovely walks/runs close by. Classic French countryside
We stayed here for 3 days this Autumn, and were made to feel so welcome. The very friendly owners, Lisa and Eric, and their staff spoke good English and nothing was too much trouble. The Irish Maitre d' was particularly attentive and helpful too. I cannot recommend the restaurant highly enough - certainly fine dining at its best - we had some of the most tender beef imaginable on one occasion, and the pastry chef is truly an artist. The superior room we had was excellent, overlooking the delightful grounds, and with a lovely bathroom, separate toilet and also walk-in dressing room as well - all tastefully decorated and displaying some unusual artwork too. The pool looked inviting, and no doubt would be great in warmer weather! The separate wine bar is just lovely - well stocked and ideal for sampling local wines. We had a Morgan car for two days whilst we were there, and that made our stay in the area truly memorable. Only wish we could have taken Barry the gorgeous family dog home with us - but then, he is definitely part of the Chateau! Thank you everyone there for making our stay very special indeed, and we will definitely return again sometime.
We went for dinner on a Thursday in the summer and had the set menu - €35 per person and we were not disappointed. We say outside to eat in the evening sunshine to enjoy a glass (or two) of the large selection of wines they had available by the glass. We were offered tastings first to make sure the wine was what we liked. Bonus- Thursday was Happy Hour and they were half price! It is a delightful place: old, interesting objects, gorgeous food and warm friendly staff. It's on our list of "must go to" . for next year. The bonus was that the exchange rate was heavily in our favour so was a bargain too.
