The location is amazing. Walking distance to many of the prime tourist spots and the bus/metro were right in front for the locations further away. The hotel is gorgeous- it is old world glamour (lobby). We felt like in a movie. The rooms are basic not flashy, but for us it was part of the charm and experience. They come with lots of closet space, good size mini fridge and nice full length mirrors. Note you cannot regulate AC that is central. We opened the windows. Bathrooms are large and modern. Breakfast had a lot of selection and was worth every penny. We looked forward to it in the am and skipped lunch. Finally the roof top has a better view of the city than Sagrada Familia tower or other viewing spots advertised. Kids enjoyed the pool. Made a lot of noise US style and were left to enjoy to the fullest including splashing the bar tender. (We are used to getting frowns in Europe). We can’t wait to go back.

The El Avenida Palace is a great historic hotel, right in the center of Barcelona. You are steps from Passeig de Gracia and the Placa de Catalunya. The area is full of restaurants and right near several Metro stations. We stayed in the El Avenida Palace Suite which is beautifully decorated and a lovely amount of space. The roof top pool and patio offer outstanding views of Barcelona. The front desk staff were all very helpful. Ate breakfast twice in the large breakfast room - a nice spread, but PLEASE do something about the eggs (runny) and you really need one or two more toasters as there was always a line. The doorman went out of his way to explain the transit limitations the day of the Barcelona Marathon. We are returning to Barcelona next year and will stay again at the El Avenida Palace.

Beautiful hotel within walking distance to all the attractions. A half block from Las Ramblas. The lobby is beautiful. The staff was exceedingly friendly. They store your key when you leave, and cheerfully give it back when you return, so you don't have to worry about it. On the day we had to leave, it was raining and there were no cabs available anywhere. The staff gave us subway instructions to get to the train station, and all worked out well.
