Virginia Hotel2.0 out of 5.0

Annoying staff. You have to let the receptionist know every time you want to leave. Most of the time you will have to wait until they've finished talking to other guests or colleagues. They don't inform you about the city tax until you check out, so keep in mind that you need to add 3.5 euros to the cost.
When I arrived I couldnt believe how small and dirty was my room. To enter you have to call the reception so they open the main door, and every time you want to go out you have to do the same and if you go out 2 or more times the receptionist gets mad because he has to open you every time. Anyway is better to spend a little more to stay in a decent hotel.
Small but adequate room and supplies. Incredibly comfortable bed, and incredibly comfortable pillows (we weren't expecting those for the money!). Good air conditioning, and good sound proofing from balcony doors. Cheerful and friendly staff. Restaurants just outside for meals. Very good location - just 10 minutes walk from main train and bus stations. Even got some English speaking TV.
The place isn't bad. The bed could be better. The room has a bit of an odor. It is clean. No TV in English. The AC is weak - leave it running while your out. If you have a rental car, don't stay here - I saw two cars where glass was shattered. Even though the area seems shady, I walked around at all hours with no issues. So did many young women. The staff really acts as if they want you to be happy and that is a nice change.
We stayed there for a weekend. It was a cheap price for the services they provided (mini fridge, hair dryer, free good speed wifi and AC). Comfortable bed and pillows. Really close to the central station, lots of bus stops, a mini market and a couple of restaurants and bars. The walls are really thin though, we could hear people ( and a barking dog) through the walls. The toilet was kind of small. We had a window but with no view. I also did not like the neighborhood much.
Nice hotel and cheap. I've already stayed in hotels in Italy and 4* hotels for them means 1* or 2* for the rest of the world. So I didn't wanted to pay a comfort that wasn't there. Virginia was quite a surprise. The style is amazing. The room is simple with big mirrors but you have all u need (shower, toilets in the room, they don't all have that, hair dryer, air conditioner). We really didn't stay much in cuz you have a lot to see so if it is like for us just for sleeping and taking a shower....it is perfect.and really silent and calm. We've had our part of grumpy maids making loud noise and slamming doors early in the morning on our other trips, but here you don't hear a thing. And it's something you will appreciate after a long day of sightseeing and walking and visiting. It is at 5 minutes walk from the train station Termini where you also find at least 20 buses, 5-10 min walk from republica subway station and 15-20 minutes maybe from the center. The staff is really nice. We hadn't had breakfast there so I have no idea about that. But just in front of the hotel you have a bar serving Italian or American breakfast. And if not you will find 100000 of bars/pubs/restaurants where to have a nice breakfast.
We had realistic expectations of this place. Booked through Expedia rated 2star. Not located in the nicest of areas but never had a problem when out walking to and from. Room fairly clean and spacious. However bathroom smelt heavily like a sewer. Now and again pressure on shower would fluctuate. Wifi works well and small tv is good background noise. Reception area smells of cigarette smoke for some reason 🤔. A good base to get to and from Termini as very close. We used metro to get around some days. Just to save time when short on it. All in all we are happy with it, generally clean and tidy, staff are very pleasant and helpful. 2star at its best and that's the realism of it.
Stayd here for 4 nights in November 2016. Good situation near metro Termini nad Republica. Very nice, clean, cosy room. Very nice staff in reception. Good value for the money. May come again during next stay.
I stayed at the Hotel Virginia for 4 nights in October 2016, I found the hotel very acceptable. It was clean, and for the most part quiet (the roads were getting worked on a couple of days so the jack hammers were loud - but not the fault of the hotel at all). I didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel, I walked and did lots of sight seeing. So the hotel was located within walking distance of the sights. Walked down to the Collosseum, the Spanish Steps, churches, shops, etc. So for me that was a definite plus. There was a grocery store a couple of blocks away - smaller grocery stores closer (right across the street); as well as restaurants all around. So the location was great. The staff at the desk were always pleasant, they asked that you dropped the key off when you left the building during the day and picked it up when you returned. Never a problem. You climb a few stairs (couple of flights) to get to the reception desk and from there you can take the elevator to the floor. The elevators are small (to me); I got in with my back pack and suit case and I don't think anyone could have fit. I climbed the stairs the remainder of the time I was there. On my way home, took the elevator, fit everything in, and hit the down button, when the door closed, there was no light in the elevator, completely dark. If that is my only complaint, that is very minor. Had a small fridge for you to use, Wi-Fi worked great.
I'm a little sad to give this place only 3 stars, but I just can't give it more. Let's start with the positives: +good location, right in the city center. About 10 mins walk from Roma Termini, and around 25 mins walk to Pantheon and Roman Forum/Colosseum. The only place we didn't walk to was Vatican City, and even that was only a 10 euro cab ride away. +Decent sized room, small-ish by American standards but plenty of room for two people. We had a very large bed, a small table and two chairs, two storage cabinets, and a nice little balcony. The water pressure in the shower was good, and the hair dryer worked decently. +Every member of the staff that we met was very pleasant. +The air conditioning kept our room cool the whole stay (though we did leave it on while we were out of the room to ensure it). +The wifi was good and reliable. And now, for the negatives. :( - the room looked clean to the eye, but certain surfaces (such as the bathroom doorknob) felt gross, as if they hadn't been cleaned in a while. - We were on the first floor (just down the hall from reception), and we could hear our neighbors easily. This wasn't really a problem for us, except for the several nightly bouts of two men in the hallway shouting in Italian for lengthy periods (one of these times was around 23:30). I don't know if it was our neighbors or staff or what. - The shower always smelled like a sewer. Literally like feces. To combat this I ran the shower for a minute periodically, it would wash away the smell for a while. Note: I honestly don't think this was the fault of the hotel, I think it's a matter of old plumbing in an old building. -The hallway heavily smelled of cigarette smoke. We paid $43 a night through hotels.com, and I was happy with it for the price. I would stay there again. Just have realistic expectations and you'll be fine.
