Overall, I give a three for the following reasons: The hotel appeared to be cleaned and the staff was super friendly. The location was great - there are a ton of shops and restaurants around. The Colosseum is a 10 min walk. I walked everywhere with in 30 min - Trevi, Spanish Steps, Borghese gallery, Pantheon, etc. I really enjoyed the roof top terrace. They offered breakfast - however, I only had it once. Personally, I didn't care for it. The AC didn't really work. But based on my own reading, it appears that if a person wants top notch AC in Rome, you must pay more for accommodation. I had a great sized bathroom. But the over all setting of the bathroom needs to be addressed. The tub was only partially covered. So, every time I showered water got all over the place. I tried my best to prevent this, but to no avail. If I was the owner of this place I would want to get that fixed to protect my property from water damage/leaks I would recommend this hotel to a friend that was on a strict budget.
The most important things about a hotel for me are the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff along with cleanliness. The moment we walked through the door, you could just tell that the staff would be pleasant and helpful. Immediately they gave us a map, talked us through the places we really must see and where to eat where the locals eat rather than at the expensive places around the tourist areas. This helpfulness carried on throughout the stay with them helping us with transportation queries, printing out tickets, ringing to reserve tickets. At breakfast, the staff were lovely as were the very friendly housemaids. The hotel is clean but is a little faded in places. We smiled at the packing tape holding the door jamb in place in the toilet in the reception area but others might be offended. Shutting that door was an art! The bed was firm but comfortable, the shower was good and we loved the bottom washer by the toilet! There is a rooftop terrace where you can take drinks of your own or from the bar and a small fridge in the room. There is a lift to the upper floors which is useful after a day out! The air conditioning was worse than useless but a fan was provided. The breakfast was basic but adequate. There were plenty of restaurants and street food nearby. Overall, you get what you pay for and for the money, this place is really good value. Pros: The staff. They were really lovely. Cons: A refrigerated area for the meats and yogurts would be a purchase well made as this really lets the hotel down when the meat & cheese is uncovered. You may find your shuttle service won't drive down the street but will wait in the street above. Location: The hotel is 10 mins stroll from the Colosseum, Imperial Forum & Museum of Reunification. It's 5 mins from the Metro and there is an Ice Bar close by
The hotel was lovely, the staff were very friendly and spoke great English. It was perfect for us as a young couple in our 20's and the location was a great bonus. The airconditioning was also superb, and could be put on a quieter setting for overnight. The location was fantastic, we walked to the: colosseum, trevi fountain, spanish steps, the pantheon, roman forum etc within 15 or so minutes for each (less for the colosseum). It was also very close to the metro underground, and very easy to get to the vatican using this. The coffee bar nextdoor (Bar Monti) was also excellent. Local restaurants on the street such as Scuie Scuie were also of a great quality. We hope to stay here again.
Great location! Conveniently located only a short walk to the Colosseum and good restaurants. The reception staff are lovely and very helpful. Great bar located just outside the hotel. Room/bathroom are a bit small and bed was a little hard. But overall a pleasant experience.
I was looking for a reasonable priced accommodation option for 4 nights in Rome and after seeing a review in my local Sunday papers for this property I took a chance and booked. The place is certainly easy to find, almost across the road from a Metro Station and the directions given on the website made it even easier. The rooms are well, small and the bathroom is even smaller. This is an old property but well maintained and freshly painted. The shower however was interesting. I'm a big guy but even so I couldn't turn around in the shower without turning off the water. That made showering tedious. However the highlight is the staff. I have never seen such a polite and obviously well trained staff as I encountered here. Every morning all of them would greet me with a smile and a happy Bon Journo! That's not easy to get hotel staff to do that consistently so whoever trained them needs a pat on the back. The most impressive though were the amazingly beautiful young ladies at the front desk who went out of their way to assist with directions and even a booking to an art gallery even though they wouldn't be getting a commission. Nothing seemed to be a problem especially for Carlotta who was the first staffer I encountered. The hotel is in a superb position close to the Metro as we as a major stop for the Hop on Hop off buses which makes getting around easy. There are plenty of good quality restaurants around though a bit pricey as it's a tourist area. Otherwise I'd stay here again even if just to meet the Front Desk staff!
I stayed for 2 nights and had booked through Expedia so when I was shown to my single room I was disappointed with how tiny it was with tiny shower room and a window set high in the wall. However when I asked if there was another room available the receptionist was very helpful and I moved to a slightly larger single room that had a HUGE bathroom! It is very simply decorated and the shower sprayed water all over the floor but the air conditioning worked and the bed was comfortable & I slept well. As others have said, the hotel is in a great area with lots of cafes, restaurants and shops, near the coliseum and the metro. My best meal of the week was eaten in the little restaurant just outside the hotel entrance! The rooftop garden was nice, the breakfast sufficient and the staff friendly and helpful.
Recently returned from a 3 night stay at Hotel Ivanhoe. Excellent central location, only a few minutes walk from the Roman Forum etc... Our room was clean and tidy, it was very hot in Rome, our room was quite small and hard to keep cool, however on a holiday where we only spent from 2300-0800 in the hotel daily, this was not a problem. Breakfast very good and all staff were really friendly with nothing being too much trouble. Overall an excellent stay
This is a really nice hotel in a great location. The must see attractions of Rome are all within walking distance (maybe with the exception of the Vatican), Colosseum is only 5 mins away. We were greeted with a friendly welcome at reception who took us through a map of Rome highlighting good places to visit and good places to eat. This map proved invaluable and was our guide for our 4 days in Rome. We had arrived early and our room was not ready yet but the hotel were kind enough to look after our suitcases while we did a bit of exploring. Once checked in, like the other reviews have highlighted, the rooms and the Shower are a bit small but perfectly manageable for a couple and as we intended to spend most of the holiday exploring, this was not an issue for us. The only thing we would change is a kettle in the bedroom as being a Brit, nothing beats relaxing at the end of the day with a cup of tea but a wonder up to the gelato shop was a perfect alternative! Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Ivanhoe and the location really is perfect for a city explorer!
This hotel is in a GREAT neighborhood. Plenty of bars and restaurants around. The receptionist and staff are super friendly. The rooms are really small and the shower is a challenge. But hey, this is a budget hotel. How many showers will you take a day? I worked it out. It was clean and my bed was comfortable. The only issue that I have is that you have to turn your key in every single time you leave the hotel. I don't like that at all. However everything else was fine and I would stay there again.
great little place, simple but lovely very close to the key sights in Rome really lovely staff here and 24hr bar! nice roof terrace to sit on breakfast quite basic but always fresh and nice would definitely stay here again
