My wife and I had a lovely stay at this hotel. The location is brilliant, overlooking the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore. The rooms are basic but nice, cleaned well. The breakfast on the roof terrace is really nice with stunning views. There is a 24 hour reception so coming and going is very easy. The hotel is in a central location so navigating to all the main sites is very simple. On the square by the Basilica are several nice restaurants for the evening.
Staying here at the moment. Great location. Has the character you would expect...I can understand that some people think it's dated but I don't agree..it's in keeping with the character and that includes the cute, but small and slow lift. Shower not perfect but did the job. Roof terrace lovely both for breakfast (standard continental, plenty available) and to sit in the evening if you want a quiet place to relax. One of the reception team has not been too friendly but others are very helpful. Internet is fine on the terrace and in the lobby but not so great in our room..it comes and goes. No issues with air con...ours works and keeps our room at a pleasant temp. Been 35 degrees and still keeping room cool. I would happily stay here again. Pic is view from roof terrace this evening
Where do I start? party of 11, split over 5 rooms 204, 206, 304, 305, 404 - all the showers leaked, hotels resolution? put more towels on the floor.... Room 206 in particular was the very worst, the shower had clearly flooded and damaged the wall into the bedroom, no attempt to repair , the room was damp and musty and hotel staff would not move the occupants . Anyone on the 4th floor expect to be disturbed late in to the night and again from approx 5am as the roof terrace is directly above most of the 4th floor, this hotel does offer smoking rooms but they are assigned at random, so even if you request a non smoking room you have no guarantee that the previous guests did not smoke in your room. The housekeeping and breakfast staff were absolutely lovely but the same cannot be said for receotion or management, who also wait until you have checked in to inform you of the 6 euro per person per night tourist tax! Safety deposit boxes are not readily available in all rooms as advertised either.
We have stayed in there last April for our honeymoon and when we arrived the hotel, reception clerk refused us to stay in their hotel(old and tall man with glasses). There were lots of avaible rooms but he told us that there is no room in hotel then we check a website and bought the room in front of him from the website. The breakfast was good but we always had to ask for room cleaning. And it wasn't good at all. So i dont recommend this hotel for fabulous ROME visitors.
My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our 30 wedding anniversary. The location of the hotel is good, we found we could walk to all of the sites in Rome. There are also quite a few nice restaurants in the area. The roof top terrace was lovely for breakfasts and overlooked the Santa Maria Di Maggiore church, which was beautiful. Our room was more of a suite with a king size bed, a single bed, 2 chairs, sofa, dressing room, desk, large bathroom and a fridge, the only down side was we had no safe as they were installing new ones and had about 6 rooms to finish. Roberto who worked in reception was very helpful and a lovely man. There was even a bottle of bubbly and chocolates for our anniversary. I would return to this hotel again.
Very old tradition hotel, needs refurbished but very clean and comfortable Breakfast was continental and adequate catered for gluten free diet Lovely rooftop terrace with lovely views Kettle in room but had to provide your own coffee Staff were welcoming and helpful Stayed 3 nights prior to joining Cruise ship, very central
It might tick all the boxes for what a four star hotel has to provide but this is not a four star experience. Decor is very tired and grubby. Air conditioning in rooms is a joke: a paper fan would be more effective. Lift is asthmatic and rheumatic. Bathrooms are hit and miss. Power sockets don't work. Second room they offered us was so small you couldn't open the door to the mini bar properly. The worst part was the apathy of the check-in chap. Probably tired of people complaining.
Last week I went to gallia hotel. It was the most terrible hotel I have been stayed. Internet was terrible, every time I wanted to tale shower I had to wait about ten minutes for warm water. I was really disappointed because I booked it for 90 euro each day and 6 euro for tax. It was not what I really payed for that
For our second visit to Rome, we returned to the Hotel Gallia and we were glad we did. We had a large room with double bed, a desk, a sofa and two arm chairs and a good sized bathroom. The room also had a view of the Santa Maria di Maggiore church across the road. We found the same friendly staff and good breakfast that we experienced on our first visit and the roof terrace is a great place to chill out at the end of the day. I still think the hotel could do with some redecorating but that didn't detract from our stay and I would recommend this hotel
Our stay in Rome was quite enjoyable, enhanced by our stay at Hotel Gallia. It is close the Forum, the Collesium, and the Roma Termini. We walked everywhere in Rome, even to/from the Vatican and the old Jewish section. Breakfasts at the hotel were wonderful, and the staff was pleasant and helpful. Our room was very comfortable with a very nice bathroom. Since we were only there at night, the simple & clean accommodations were plenty for us to relax after a long day of walking around Rome. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone.
